Dean Ayala on Shudderwock: Revisiting the Topic Early Next Week
Dean Ayala tweeted this evening that the team is going to be looking into Shudderwock feedback early next week.
How do you feel about Shudderwock? I can definitely agree with the animations being a bit on the long side and would definitely at least appreciate a less excruciating death.
Quote from Dean AyalaWe’ll be reading more feedback over the weekend and will revisit the Shudderwock topic early next week. Checking out both animation timings and feedback on the deck playstyle itself. Let us know what you think and enjoy Witchwood!
i feel like people playing cubelock are the ones complaining loudest against shudderwock. The deck is definitely a combo deck, but it takes time to get all the pieces in place. I've been playing it a bit and it is definitely not a guaranteed win (I'm looking at you Cubelock). I've lost a bit more than I've won, and I'm totally ok with that. Paladin and rogue run all over this deck, as well as the odd hunter deck that come up. Heck, a secret hunter even beat me. Haha. I'm probably not the best player, but doesn't that kinda say something about the deck?
It seems to be a bit of a meme, and am enjoying the odd wins i get with it.
IMO not broken, but disgusting and making people watch disturbingly long animation so you can deal 3-6 damage and repeat as it goes... Raza priest is a fun town compared to this,
Just make aggro great again and problem solved.
Easy fix after the rope ends all battlecries are negated.
What? No, that is bad and probably impossible to do because all effects are almost instantly resolved on server as it doesn't animate anything and just calculates the values. What we need is an option with less flashy animations so that it helps with the times when turns take the full timer to actually PLAY and even longer to just show how it turns out. Or you know, just a "skip animations" button, or the ability to skip any single animation or a combination of these possible solutions that help you not want to die when ridiculous 10 minute turns happen. I play Hearthstone for how quickly games go. I don't mind playing control-oriented matches that take longer, but each turn should remain relatively short. Right now, if you take full length turns(approximately 75 seconds) and go all the way to draw the match, it lasts over 90 minutes... That is just too long, and on top of that, you have this kind of BS that extends the 75 seconds to really unreasonable 3-10 times longer... Something close to what you're suggesting is just skipping all animations after the rope ends, but that might be confusing to some and a skipping option might be better
I honestly don’t think the issue lies with shudderwok. There are far more powerful decks in play right now with high win rates. Aggro decks are great against it and the main problem is its animation. Even when you know they aren’t going to beat you with the Shudderwok, you’re still going to sit through 2 minutes of animation.
If they just speed up the animations or just skip to the results, I think I’d be fine with it. Actually pulling off the combo isn’t as easy as people make it out to be. I’d still kill you easier with an Odd hunter, Maly rogu, or Lady in White priest.
the only thing bad about this deck is the duration. tons of super annoying decks already that are way more op and require half the set up of shudderwok
even after drawing and playing the full combo i was still 30 to 0 by a priest running maly and 2 mind blasts 24 dmg 1 turn all u need is 6 dmg on the field to 1 shot a shudderwok shaman even after the first combo
if they simply made Saronite Chain Gang summon another Saronite Chain Gang instead of "a copy" of itself, shudderwock wouldnt be able to copy itself and the whole combo would fall apart.
only change the text on [card]Saronite Chain Gang[/card] ... insted of sumon a copy of this minion, to: sumon a Saronite Chain Gang
Agree. but it's hardly helps anything here.
Miracle rogue and Exodia mage is a spell heavy deck, this is full with minions and they don't even care if you pull out almost anything except Grumble or Shudder, because they play 2 of almost everything else.
And the funniest thing that it has a battlecry so with removal battlecry and Shudder they can actually emptify your hand and destroy it all.
Make Lifedrinker a death rattle effect. Problem solved. Shutterwock is fine.
Someone has a brain :D
The Shudderwock Shaman is very interesting. On the surface it's a pretty weak deck, it loses to aggro/midrange hard more often than not, and needs a lot of cards to pull off the OTK. However, in slower control matchups there is basically no counterplay against this deck. It just wins when it draws the combo pieces. This makes the deck pretty oppressive and horrendous to play against as control. even before taking into account the animation times haha
Is that not basically every combo deck ever?
I suppose that's true. I still don't think that kind of deck is healthy for the game though. Vs exodia Paladin you could play around burgly bully, exodia mage is relate-able to this, but you had some control counterplay - Priest could consistently steal Ice Block and Mage could obviously just run one. Even back in the day, things like combo druid could be outhealed or just taunt walled. Against this deck it feels kind of like you have no control over the outcome. Thankfully it's mediocre against everything else and we see it less and less :)
All of the draw that Shaman has access to leaves them with no tempo or awful tempo. Aggro and tempo/midrange decks will consistently beat Shudderwock OTK decks because they’re so slow and inconsistent. You need three battlecries and a reduced cost card to set up the OTK, and sometimes you also need either the Primordial Drake or various freeze battlecries to keep from dying on the turn you set up Shudderwock.
It’s frustrating to play against that long chain of animations when you lose, but the deck is weak. A reactionary nerf to Shudderwock would ruin what is a very interesting, powerful effect card in a class that needs cool, powerful stuff. Shudderwock has seen very limited experimentation, and there may be lots of more consistent and more interactive decks for him.
They could solve this issue by making Shudderwock only repeat X random battlecries you played, instead of all of them. That would limit the animation time right there and if X was something like 4 or 5 it would still be able to be built around to make a viable combo.
