This is easily the best card of the expansion so far.
Dragon potion>All.
Just can't be bad!
do you remember mechmage? they are happy about every free stuff they can get before turn 3. so i guess counterspell just to burn enemy tempo and buff your mana wyrm or mirror to get keep the lead on board is strong enough.
This card is the best reason to play Medivh's Valet on turn 2.
now valet is an tempo card :/ not sure about this. mana wyrm + coin + kabal+ secret seems more than broken, even worse than tunnel and totem golem if you can pull it off. add an medivh's valet or forstbolt and we see games be over turn 5-6.
the dream would be: t1: combo, t2: medive 3 dmg + 5 dmg minions = 8 (they use removal but you got counterspell), t3: 9 dmg by minion+ frostbolt+lance = 16dmg, t4: fireball= lethal. WTF, its undertaker all over again..
ok me stupid: without a secret the medivs doesnt work :/ so use better minion or 2. frostbolt (1 hp off he can clear the board) :D
Overall I'd say it's pretty average. It's a 2/1 for 1 which means it trades up. So body wise. It's decent actually. Now the effect of this card is very unique. Yes, there was Kirin Tor Mage but that was a 3 mana 4/3 so all that got you was an extra 4/3 when you played a secret.
The biggest saving factor of this card is how small this card is. (Though most people will overlook this card anyway because of it) Now why is that it's saving grace? Because it "reduces" the cost of a secret in your hand. In the long run this is basically "Play a secret in your hand for 1 mana and also get a 2/1 body." Now obviously the body becomes worthless after turn 3 but the effect is almost ALWAYS relevant. Let's say you want to turn 3 Medivh's Valet. Sorry, gotta play a secret turn 3 then play Valet. Well with this, you can pay 3 mana, have a secret and valet AND get an extra 2/1. 1 drops are good curve fillers and not only does it fill the curve by dropping a body but by also allowing you to drop a secret more effectively on a curve. A struggle for most secret decks due to the tempo loss of dropping a secret that might not proc and sometimes does proc when you would rather have that secret up for other cards such as Avian Watcher.
Downside: Not a very big body in the later stages of the game.
Upside: Allows your to set up a secret and trigger and effect using secrets MUCH easier.
The Tempo Dream: T1: Mana Wyrm -> The Coin -> Kabal Lackey -> Mirror Entity, T2: Medivh's Valet. GG
Followed by an Arcane Intellect to refill hand ?
Gege
but if they play a minion, mirror entity triggers and medivh's valet is just a 2/3
your mana wyrm dies from frostbolt and you have no target except face for your Valet. Entity copies book and Lackey dies from ping :D
PS: Forgot to mention, you are 5 hp ahead, but with empty hand and your opponent has 4-5 ;)
ha, and that's the tempo nightmare.
Kabal Lackey looks an awful lot like a Krogan from Mass Effect. This expansion is a distraction from the reaper invasion huh?
power creep
Turn 2: Excuse me, you are on fire.
Great card, not as broken as mad scientist and thats good, i would love to see it encourage players to use secrets like spellbender, because standart mirror entity or counterspell are not that strong if you play them on tempo turn 1.
The only weak point is the current secrets. On the draw t1 Wurm, coin, this guy, Counter spell seems OP though, with effigy at the end being not too shabby
The "this turn" makes this weak. It will see play if they add 1-2 strong secrets and you keep 4+ in your deck to increase likelihood you'll have a secret in hand. I would love to use counterspell more against Shaman and Paladin AOE.
The card overall is weak with the current set of mage secrets. It'll really only fit into specific mage archetypes. But something tells me blizzard couldn't resist creating a secret specifically to fit with this little guy.
Though it does offer a bit more flexibility with the cost of secrets.
Good card for aggrofreeze deck variations. Also another tempo archetype will be interesting, with this card, 2xEntity and 1xCS (like in good old times :)
