Update 12:40 PM EDT: Ben Brode confirms 0 wins gives you 1 pack as a reward.
Competitive Tavern Brawls with Entry Fees Coming Soon!
A new Tavern Brawl type is coming soon titled Heroic Brawl which works a bit like arena except we're using constructed decks! You will need to pay an entry fee in order to play but you can earn some pretty awesome rewards.
- The entry fee is $9.99 USD or 1000 Gold.
- You will build a Standard deck using your own card collection. No changes once it is locked in!
- Your deck can be played up until you hit 12 wins or 3 losses. You will earn rewards based on your total wins.
- Rewards featured up to 50 packs for a run, multiple legendaries, and the usual gold + dust.
- The Heroic Brawl only lasts for the duration of a regular Tavern Brawl week!
- When this special mode is running, there will not be a regular Tavern Brawl.
- You can only run Heroic Brawl five times during the week.
Rewards
Clarifications
Quote from BlizzardThis brawl is pretty different. We want it to feel more like a tournament, and so the rewards are weighted heavily towards the high end of wins. The reward for 0 wins is a single pack. If this scares you, you may want to wait for next week's Brawl and just enjoy the fun on Twitch. :) (Ben Brode)The pack rewards are from the most recent expansion - so it would be Whispers of the Old Gods. The Legendaries are random. (Zeriyah)
The current limit is five runs. (Zeriyah)
Announcement Post
Quote from BlizzardReady for the ultimate competitive Tavern Brawl experience that will test Hearthstone’s best in an all-out battle for glory? If you think you’re up to the challenge, get your deck ready and dive into the fray, because Heroic Brawl is coming!
Heroic Brawl will challenge even Hearthstone’s most experienced players as they vie for glory and in-game rewards! Participants will create a Standard deck from their existing card pool and lock it in before their first Heroic Brawl match. No changes can be made to your Heroic Brawl deck once you’ve locked it in, so be sure to do a bit of testing before you finalize your deck.
Once you’ve locked in your Standard deck for Heroic Brawl, you’ll be pitted against other Heroic Brawlers in heated battle. Just like the Arena, you want to shoot for 12 wins to get the best rewards—but if you get three losses, you’re out!
For Hearthstone’s best brawlers, 50 packs, a heap of Gold, piles of Arcane Dust, and three golden Legendaries sit at the end of the 12-win rainbow. The rewards are significantly different than what you have come to expect in the Arena, and the more games you win, the better they get. Are you ready to take on the best and brightest of competitive Hearthstone?
Heroic Brawl is not for the faint of heart, and is a unique experience meant for the extremely competitive and experienced Hearthstone player. To speak more on Heroic Brawl and the philosophy behind it are two of Hearthstone’s game designers for Tavern Brawls, Dan Emmons and Pat Nagle.
Are you cracking your knuckles in anticipation yet? Here’s how you can participate!
Heroic Brawl lasts for only one normal Tavern Brawl week and has an entry fee of $9.99 USD or 1000 gold. You can participate in Heroic Brawl for a limited amount of completed runs. As mentioned above, Heroic Brawl rewards scale depending on how many wins you get, so be sure to do your best each run!
If you’re not ready to t Tavern Brawl week.
We hope that our Heroic Brawl scratches the competitive itch of the players looking for a high risk, high reward experience. Heroic Brawl is coming soon, so keep an eye out for updates.
We’re always looking to try new things in Hearthstone, so let us know what you think of Heroic Brawl on the official Hearthstone forums!
rich get richer and the card access for new players gap widens, and a proper gold sink it is
I think it's great blizzard came up for an idea for elite players. However players new and old play tavern brawl, in fact sometimes it is the only reason I log in to this game which has become stale (because of shaman). To actually TAKE AWAY the brawl for this? It's a dumb move.
IMO they should have just called it what it is (elite arena), and stuck it under arena much like the option to play standard or wild format in the play screen. This should not be replacing the tavern brawl-- it has absolutely nothing to do with the tavern brawl. It's arena, with a bigger entrance fee/ possible reward. Calling it a brawl doesn't even make sense.
I don't think this is going to save hearthstone, which really needs help right now. Paladin and priest have all but been abandoned while half the hearthstone population is playing shaman-- we really need the attention and effort elsewhere.
This idea will also only further alienate new players, and while blizzard understandably wants to make money this isn't the way. there are so many other ways to do that without alienating new players. Why not make a package deal on solo adventures for new players who want to start with a full set? Or an actual tournament format (like single or double elimination style) etc.
This is just stupid.. And much like the alternate hero portraits (other than the one that raised $ for charity) -- I will not be participating in.
Ok so it's brawl but arena style right? You only get 3 classes to pick from is my guess here as like in arena and then build your deck. Not everyone will get shaman as I choice at that point so chanced are less likely to face shaman in this mode than standard. Even then shaman isn't an auto win, I can't tell you how many shamans I've face with control warrior and won. It's rng and skill not old combo druid where when you have the cards you win.
"No, no, not touch that!!!" Tabern Brawl are free, why pay for it?
5 games is enough to give you rewards that are worth the entry cost: 6 packs (600 gold) + ~220 gold + ~220 dust (1 pack = 100 dust in average, so that's about 2 packs or 200 gold) = ~1000 gold in average
No, no, no, my precious. One pack equals 40 dustses.
incorrect, 1 pack = about 85 dust. 40 is the min, but you don't get the min every pack (statistically impossible).
each card has a % chance to be rare (22.84%), epic (4.42%), or legendary (1.10%), which means that the rest are common (71.65%). Dust values for DE of each is 5, 20, 100, 400. So that means each card is effectivly worth 5*.7165 + 20*.2284 + 100*.042 + 400*.011 = 16.96. There are 5 cards in a pack, so 16.96 * 5 = 84.8
Percentages were gathered from the hearthstone wiki which was a study done for 22.8k packs. I did not include goldens, so 85 is a bit low.
For just a second, compare this to the normal arena...You will realise this is so badly executed that is hilarious!
Seems more like a gold sink. If you have 50% win rate in this constructed format, you spend 1,000 gold, win 3, lose 3 and get 4 packs, 120 dust and 120 gold. I don't like the odds.
You can't, it's a gambling trap. Unlike arena you'll almost never cover your entry cost
Not worth it IMO.
Normal hearthstone or modified rules? I'm assuming the former but the latter would be interesting
why would you name it tavern brawl then? and there is no word like "normal mode". they said standard card pool, so i think its brawl with user created decks like 10mana hs.
i just found this and it doesnt say anything against a brawl type of game. whatever we will see
Why replace tavern brawl people actually play this could just be put under area
Please don't do this
The cake is a lie.....Stay far away people...Let this be the biggest failure Hearthstone has ever had, so big that it wakes them up and we get quality content.
Also how long until proper Arena changes now, since the last changes basically did nothing and Mage is more rapid then ever? Another year?
