Ben Brode: Purify Will Not Appear in Arena
Ben Brode has clarified that Purify will not be appearing in Arena in the latest episode of Hearthstone Designer Insights. We've recapped below!
- The card was not intended to be powerful.
- Internally they tried Silence any minion but they're trying to cut back on Silence to see what the game feels like without it.
- Purify was 1-mana at one point but was changed due to play testers using it just to cycle through cards.
- Ben acknowledges they messed up with the timing on Purify with the community's current views on the Priest class.
- Purify is good for the game, but maybe better in a set with flashy, exciting Priest cards.
- Ben has hopes for Dragon Priest.
- Purify will not show up in Arena. This is due to them not having a system in place where they can balance card appearances individually but do have one which can remove cards completely from the draft. "It won't solve Arena balance but it's a step in the right direction".
Wild is the one place where you can actually find a viable priest deck, which is N'zoth priest. It's a shame that wild is mostly ignored by the community, since you can occasionally find a non-meta deck, even in the upper ranks.
Purify is not the problem. Curve is the problem. Take a look at 3 drops.
Paladin - 7
Druid - 8
Shaman - 10
Warlock - 10
Rogue - 11
Warrior - 12
Hunter - 13
Mage - 15
Priest - 4
Every other class has strong selections for 3 drops. Priest have nothing. They are so heavily loaded on 4 mana, but because of the stronger opens it doesnt matter that they have strong 4 drops. With nothing to gain board or hold board in the first 3 turns, its a losing fight.
when will adventure Karazhan August 11 or August 12, at what time GMT please tell me
Wouldn't be as bad if they added a mechanic that allowed you to silence a card you have in hand. It would synergize with other cards like injured blade master, deathwing, etc. If you could silence Eerie Statue on 2 and play it on 3 or 4, that would make it viable.
I think this card would be actually absolutely insane if you could silence cards in your hand to be honest.
My username sums up what would happen to Purify
"Some players like to win with bad cards." - Ben Brode
Okay, I'm one of those players. I do build fun decks with screwball cards. I win slightly more than fifty percent at mediocre ranks and whenever I do win I'm far more satisfied and happy compared to wins with hardcore decks that resemble the Meta.
HOWEVER
There are times when I like to play seriously with my favorite class, Priest, and even when I fine tune my decks and play my heart out I realize that I'm not winning any more than I was with the fun decks that are SUPPOSED to not win as much.
AND THAT'S THE PROBLEM.
Yeah. They're called masochists.
I know everyone hates this card and says there is no viable Priest deck right now, but I am loving my N'Zoth deathrattle Priest deck. Sure, I'm not taking it to legendary, but it is a very fun deck to play. I could silence my Corrupted Healbot and draw a card with Purify. I'm not saying I will add this card to my deathrattle deck, but I could.
You know, I'm sure if the card read "Silence a minion, then restore it to full health. Draw a card.", people wouldn't be complaining as much.
Even if you have to restrict it to friendly or damaged minions, it would still be an okay card. Hell, I'd even be fine if the card had the above effect, and cost 3 mana. At least it would have more utility.
It's okay guys, Priest cards are bad but there's hope for Dragon.
Fucking hilarious!Unicorn priest powa
OK, so this is a good thing, but I hope they aren't expecting us to be grateful for it. Releasing a piece of shit like Purify and then announcing it won't be appearing in arena is like being told that you're being sacked from your job right this instant, but on the bright side they'll at least pay you for what you already worked this week.
Ok they admitted the mistake and they take some measures (although, why not print another card..). Good, thanks Ben.
I am just still dumb struck by the idea that they printed these cards for priest for this adventure. Did they not see the state of priest (and rogue, etcetera for that matter) and also the state of the meta? Did they not see it at all? Really?
This worries me terribly. If they do not step up their game, HS is in big trouble. If they leave the cards for this adventure like this, then all is on the next expansion. If that does not fix anything, that must put of so many players. Me for sure.
Lets hope that we are all wrong and that in some strange way we missed some awesome synergy for priest with the neutrals or something great about the new priest cards.
I'm not the least bit surprised they didn't realize how sad of shape Priest was in. How long did it take them to fix Shaman? Paladin? Or any other class that sucked, and in the process make the class OP (Aggro Shammy/Secret Paladin).
Why don't they just change the card? That makes no sense.. blizz is so lazy i cant even describe. dont buy this adv with money guys.. or we will see a lot of purifies in the next set of cards
This card is so good that you even not allowed to draft it in arena.
Silence your brain fart and draw some brains
I know that all of you think Priest sucks right now but in Arena it is actually powerful i won 12-2 with a weird Priest deck one week ago and it was quite amazing and satisfaction was real!
As you know right Know Priest is the hardest hero to play with, and it is still strong in Wild. I made a Thief Priest deck that can easily win against any tempo/control deck but it struggles a little bit against aggro. If they only added a good 4 mana removal for him, it was easy to go legend with it.
I dont think priest is actually powerful in arena
