Ben Brode: Purify Will Not Appear in Arena
Ben Brode has clarified that Purify will not be appearing in Arena in the latest episode of Hearthstone Designer Insights. We've recapped below!
- The card was not intended to be powerful.
- Internally they tried Silence any minion but they're trying to cut back on Silence to see what the game feels like without it.
- Purify was 1-mana at one point but was changed due to play testers using it just to cycle through cards.
- Ben acknowledges they messed up with the timing on Purify with the community's current views on the Priest class.
- Purify is good for the game, but maybe better in a set with flashy, exciting Priest cards.
- Ben has hopes for Dragon Priest.
- Purify will not show up in Arena. This is due to them not having a system in place where they can balance card appearances individually but do have one which can remove cards completely from the draft. "It won't solve Arena balance but it's a step in the right direction".
It doesn't have Charge and too complicated to read. Bad card
Hi! Ben Brode here! You card concept is cool but I think it should cost 10 mana and only destroy your cards.
TIL People care about Arena.
Hmm... go figure.
Conclusion: Blizzard is making cards more conservatively :(
Nobody will care about Purify in Arena. Why choose Priest when it's such a bad Arena class?
Not everyone picks an arena class purely based on expected win rate.
Purify might come back in Arena when priest is better and when it isn't going to benefit from most recent expansion bonus.
thats unfair for classes.
warriors had to survive the worst arena card in game bolster. why cannot priest get the same treatment
Because Priest is considered the worst class in the game by far. They don't need additional drawbacks.
The big problem though is that Silence already exists, does the same thing for 0 mana, and trades the card cycle for the flexibility to actually target your opponent's stuff (which, generally speaking, is a great option to have). There's little reason to run Purify while Silence is still available, unless there's so few targets that you might want the ability to cycle it for 2 mana. It's got extremely limited utility, AND there's already a basic card that provides that utility and does a better job of it. It just boggles the mind.
In all seriousness. It does actually buff Priest as a class. How?
Well I play undercity Huckster. And soon the other new 1/1 minion that steals a classcard. Even cards like Nefarion. And getting this piece of shit Purify on my hand will nerf those kind of card stealer cards versus Priest, hence a buff to Priest. Heck, maybe Ill be able to use it and silence one of my own minions in a rare case that it has a debuff.
Anyway, it adds to the game as whole, even though it would suck balls as a deck card.
They can change this card at anytime...
You forgot Ben Brode's face giggling!
Ok, enough jokes, just saw this on Ben Brode's twitter, apparently it replaces Purify in the set.
The Lube spell can be played wherever you want.
Lets me recap the reasons about why purify cost two mana:
- If cost zero is a powercreep about the classic Silence, right?
- If cost one is will be using at cycle card, just like Power Word: Shield
So at this point why not think its was bad idead desing this card in a class that already have a zero cost silence and one cost cycle spell? Instead of that you just up the cost to two mana, sorry but i dont see the point.
In all the combos suggested it seems better with classic Silence, if we speak about Barnes its not better make a tempo play on turn four than waiting to turn six? Also this combo dont seems to be a good synergizes, if you put Barnes into a deck what type of minions you wanna add to this? high cost minions with high stats or deathrattle minions or both? If you go with high cost minions what happen if you dont draw barnes on tempo? and the silence at the same time? If you put a deathrattle minons you really wanna add silences to the deck?
I know, its too late to fix a card like Purify a couple of days before the release, hope they learn from this and priest got some fixs in the next expansión.
They can fix this card anytime, but they won't
There's one thing that this card has that silence doesn't, and that is it draws to replace itself. I think the restriction to your own minions is the real issue, if it could target your opponent's minions it would be pretty good.
