Reward & Promo Set Cards Restricted to Wild Format
An update has been made to Blizzard's Standard and Wild FAQ which confirms we will not be able to use cards in the Reward or Promo sets in Standard. Additionally, you will no longer obtain Old Murk-Eye or Captain's Parrot from crafting Murlocs and Pirates. RIP Old Murk-Eye.
Quote from BlizzardWill Reward set cards such as Gelbin Mekkatorque and Old Murk-Eye be part of Wild or Standard format? All current Reward set cards, including Promo cards, will be restricted to Wild format.
When Standard format arrives, the Captain’s Parrot and Old Murk-Eye cards won’t be given for collecting their associated classic cards, but can instead be crafted (and disenchanted).
Acquiring the Promo cards Gelbin Mekkatorque and Elite Tauren Chieftain remains unchanged: the normal versions of these cards can still be crafted or disenchanted, while the golden versions were acquired via special events and cannot be disenchanted or crafted.
That's a weird poll. Maybe it's good for Standard that they remove them but it's certainly not good that they remove the way you can acquire these cards.
This feeling of earning is leaving more and more HS :(
It would be pretty hilarious if Blizzard releases a Pirate minion in the next expansion that turns out to be so strong it'll be the new Dr Boom, and everybody suddenly crafts Captain's parrot to draw it faster
Wait, just so things are clear, does this mean if I already acquired those two cards via reward (Old Murk-Eye and Captain's Parrot), does that mean I will keep them, but I will only be able to use them in Wild Format? Correct?
Correct. You won't be able to use them in standard but they will become disenchantable.
RIP Murloc decks.
Honestly I don't mind the loss of Murk-Eye and Captain's Parrot for Standard but losing Gelbin and ETC is a bit sad. I mean they aren't good in the first place and probably never will be, but considering that you can get (or maybe used to get?) the non-Golden variants via the Classic packs, that's a bit... weird.
I hate to break the news to you, but Gelbin and ETC can only be obtained by crafting, not with classic packs.
People generally liked Kibler's reaction that fewer cards be in the standard set. Then Blizz announces four fewer cards than we initially thought---and people dislike it.
They are trying to appeal to newer players.. the promo and reward cards are not easily obtained if obtainable at all.. If people like using them just use them in Wild and let Standard be a new meta like it is supposed to be..
One less charge minion in standard? FeelsGoodMan
Couldnt care less about those gone cards...
You can get the power of rock if you know how to find ebay and are willing to part with $340 or thereabouts ;)
Thank god... Captain's Parrot would have been so op in standard.
Why do they even have to this? Theres now point... Paladin is already weakened.
And who cares about The Captains Parrot?
Such a bad move. :(
I don't really have an opinion on the restriction of reward/promo cards to the wild format (I don't think there would be any harm in making them standard legal, but I have no real objection to them not being so), however I do find the removal of the quests for Captain's Parrot and Old Murk-eye to be somewhat puzzling as the cards necessary to unlock them are all still obtainable from classic packs which will always be available. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Makes sense only if they plan on expanding those sets.
It's their way of saying they failed at tribes.

What are everyone's thoughts about crafting Captain Greenskin just to get Captain's Parrot before they make the change? Is it worth it to spend 1600 dust so that I save 800 dust later in case Captain's Parrot becomes relevant? LOL
