No Free Packs on TGT Launch
Unlike the Goblins vs Gnomes launch event, we won't be getting any free card packs this time around Daxxarri confirmed earlier today on Twitter. We didn't believe that we'd be getting any free packs since there was no indication of this in the recent client patch, but it's worth pointing out.
Quote from DaxxarriAre we getting free TGT packs on launch like with GvG?
Nope. Not too late to pre-order for a discount on a bunch of TGT packs though--if you haven't already.
Fel Reaver Bug Fixed
A bug with Fel Reaver and Gnomish Experimenter which prevented you from seeing what cards they had drawn or discarded has been fixed.
Quote from Yong WooAre the changes to Fel Reaver & Experimenter (not showing the cards) intended?
Negative. We are looking into it.
So this is probably gonna be in the game for at least 8 more months?
I recommend you go try it now. :)
This Weekend in Hearthstone ESports

The winner of the NA Fireside Gathering will receive a seed into the Hearthstone World Championship Americas Qualifier.
The event is being hosted by ESL and will be cast by TJ ‘Azumo’ Sanders, Dan "Frodan" Chou, and Robert "Whirthun" Wing. More details available in our guide for the event.
SCAN Hearthstone Invitational 2
Team Dignitas is hosting the second edition of the SCAN Hearthstone invitational to deal out $2,350 to 8 invited players and 8 qualified players including seasoned Hearthstone veterans as well as rising new stars. Follow their matches on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of August on Ready Up TV's twitch channel.
Games will be starting at 9 AM EDT / 3 PM CEST, and will be cast by GreenSheep and modernleper. Learn more about the event and players over in our event guide!
There is also other competetive game that is luck based, it names "poker", you should try it.
I pretty much expected this move. It's the same with every game. When they're not succesful and popular yet = free stuff for everyone. When they go phenomenal = no more free stuff and milk the player base. Not surprised at all, not disappointed either. 3 packs is just 3 days of grind.
This post gave me canc- wait... it IS cancer.
"I'm free to play...except that I paid here and there so I could invest my gold into more card packs". That one is hilarious...
It's a card game. Card games are always about having cards. You have to buy said cards, unless you plan on playing some free client (Cockatrice, Magic Workstation, Apprentice) that isn't actually supported by the company who produces the game you want to play. Buying cards to be competitive in a card game is not a new thing and it's certainly not going to doom Hearthstone. MTG has been going strong for the last 20 years and they have been 100% buy to play until very recently with Magic Duels.
In short, Hearthstone, even with a F2P component, is pay to win. You are certainly free to play it casually, they want that to be a thing. However, you are not free to win it. Now, I haven't spent nearly 400h hours playing Hearthstone (at least it doesn't feel like I have), and I am also a casual player. I don't care much about ranked matches (except to get a free card back each month) and I certainly don't play arena to get cards or participate in any of the grinds they have in order to get cards. I complete my daily quests (when I'm in the mood to play Hearthstone) and I usually throw my gold down on packs of the current set just to see what I can get from it.
I do the tavern brawl each week (just 1 game to get a free pack, because it's a shit format otherwise), and I spend the rest of my time playing other games. However, when I do play Hearthstone, I have absolutely zero problems with any meta decks because I buy packs to get cards I want. Why would I (or anyone else, for that matter), sit here and spend hours of my time playing against decks without the cards I need to win, if I'm just playing casually?
I can afford to buy packs, as an investment into something I like to do on occasion. It's no different than spending money on an expansion box for Wow, Diablo, or any other game. It's no different than paying a sub fee to access a game. These things cost money, they can get expensive, and you have to be able to justify the costs if you want to stay competitive. That's how life works. That's how the entertainment industry works.
No one, especially in the competitive circles of the game, is going to give you any recognition for not spending money on this game. They will, however, gladly trounce you with their meta decks while you flounder without the right cards.
You have a great point in this, certainly agree with most everything. I do see an issue with new players in the future, with the launch of new expansions and adventures, new players will get behind.
It could last 20 years if Blizzard do something, but they are currently running in the wrong direction.
If you can't play casual, go and play ranked. I don't see any problem.
Just because an advanced player like you isn't doing well in casual doesn't mean that neither is new player. If you have played since beta and you have like 10 legendaries, getting those two you're missing from your main deck shouldn't be a problem, and other players of your skill level have those two legendaries for their decks. You, however, for some reason haven't crafted them, so obviously you have fallen behind.
You've just illustrated why the F2P component of this game is designed badly. Congratulations! Anyone who wants to enjoy Hearthstone over the long haul has to be willing to spend at least $100 on adventures and packs up front in order to get the cards they need.
Not too late to pre-order for a discount on a bunch of TGT packs though--if you haven't already.
The only things that have been keeping me playing this game since the release of 10$ GIFs are the adventures and 100 packs bought with real money, but I guess it's time to leave...
Tbh. I have enough money to spend on this game and I don't really care about my free packs, but I'm not going to play a game where there will be no free to play player or any new players because they meet the wall of P2W's... So Bli$$ard, give us the F#!% packs... pls
You're really this upset about 3 packs of cards? You should go for a walk outside.
NO!!!
I think they should handle out some free packs too. On the other hand I don't understand the whining here. Due to tavern brawl we get almost a free pack(winning 1 game, seriously...and there was just one week where I needed two games for that victory so far) every week....and if you started saving gold from your dailies when the xpack was announced then you would now be able to buy around 25packs anyway.
In a world where you can generally expect to pay $50 for a solid 12-15 hours of gameplay in a AAA title, I see no problem spending $50 on a game I've played for hundreds of hours.
Perspective.
That is seriously the douchiest thing Blizzard has ever pulled on us.
Even though I have spent hundreds of dollars on Hearthstone (RIP economy) I still really liked the 3 free-pack idea, it enabled F2P-players or just non-tryhards to get a taste of the new expansion, and hopefully inciting them to collect gold to buy more packs.
I am a capitalist and I defend the right of making money, but I do not condone being an absolute douchebag. This is seriously not cool at all.
With 20 million a month from hearthstone, you would think they could give out one pack.
The heard needs culling. Corporations must be put down.
That "go buy the preorder" statement is just gushing with greed. People have let companies get more and more out of control in the past 50 years. 50 years ago the disparity between average factory workers wage, and the wage of the higher ups in the company was barely noticeable, look at GM in the 50's for an example. But we've let them take more and more. And defenders of these companies are the worst, too much wool in their eyes to see they've been desensitized to the corporate greed as it has slowly been escalating to higher and higher levels over the past 50 years. They don't even see it as a bad thing anymore, they endorse it, so blind. On top of that inflation has risen the cost of living ~5x as much as it was just 40 -50 years ago, and yet wages haven't even come close to increasing that much, if at all. This is why there is no more middle class.
The whole idea of capitalism is fucked. Based off of screwing over as many people as possible, just so that you can get as much power/wealth/control as possible over said people. FUCK THE PEOPLE, FUCK THE ENVIRONMENT, GET MONY. Great message. And the population endorses it. Disgusting.
These are the reasons one of Neil Young's latest albums laments the fact that his generation failed. They were supposed to change the world. These are the reasons that scholars have asserted that the current generation in power has driven the greatest miss-allocation of resources in the history of the planet and the human race. It used to be for "us and our posterity." Instead they have gone the complete other way, taken on the new Machiavellian message of the day, "Attain wealth, forgetting all but self."
Machiavelli asserted that god was dead, and so "do what thou wilt." The problem with that, is the question of weather god exists or not is irrelevant when discussing human virtue and altruism. Machiavelli had a big problem with Aristotle in his time, and that is because Aristotle came ~1800 years before and Machiavelli still couldn't beat Aristotle's logic. Aristotle, for centuries, had been known not just as a great philosopher, but as "the Philosopher" until Machiavelli fooled the world. There is a real reason why Aristotle was considered an impediment to "modern philosophy" by Machiavelli and his contemporaries. They were trying to push lies, and couldn't deal with the empirical evidence and LOGIC of Aristotle, so he appeals to emotion and preys on the fears of people to push his message. If you read The Prince and think it is a good book, go follow it up with Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle, and learn how wrong Machiavelli was. His message is still destroying us. Time to wake up people. Bring back TRUTH, bring back Aristotle.
AND DON"T PREORDER
Do you know what other TCGs don't give away free packs when new sets come out? Nearly all of them. Also, most of them don't give out free cards at all, meaning you can't even play if you don't spend some money.
I don't understand all this anger about a company trying to make money. Do you think it's free to host the servers necessary for millions of players to play hearthstone? Do you think that Blizzard's developers are all volunteers? Of course not.
Grow up and check your entitlement at the door. Be thankful this game even gives you the option of F2P. Otherwise, you're just a joke with your attitude.
