Nope, BM isn't unique to Hearthstone. I used to play Dominion (a deck-building game) online.
There, the stakes are a bit higher, since you have chances to make your deck an engine that takes more than 90 seconds to play, but takes the first 8-9ish turns to set up. Conceding when you know you've lost, but before their deck's engine gets going, is really annoying to the winning player since they don't see the fruits of the labor. However, a gracious loser can waste up to 3-5 minutes in the worst case scenario if the other player is able to draw their whole deck and decides to waste time in-between cards.
For Hearthstone, depending on my mood, I alternate between conceding at the end of my turn when he has "board lethal" (where he can win without playing cards from hand), and letting him reduce my health to 0. In Dominion, when I give up depends on how much fun I'm having (if it's a slogfest I'll give up as soon as I know I've lost, or if it's a guy who has a sufficiently high rank, I'll resign if I lose the split of a vital card 4 to 6).
Given my experiences with Dominion, I would just give the 90 seconds to the opponent to do whatever they want (alt+tab and do something else if needed), and if they don't finish you off, either punish them or concede. Since that's my personal experience, I understand that not everyone will agree.
