posted a message on Month of my ranked games - summary

Overall your decks look pretty standard with a couple changes, not bad in all. I would suggest making the Druid a little faster, more Tempo then Ramp, and the same with the Priest, either adding in an extra SW:P, Smite, or Shadow Madness. I'm not a fan of Mage in its current condition, I like it a little more control/freeze than secret when I play it, but it's just doesn't quite preform as well as it could. What your running is fine, just think it could be tuned a little better for this aggro heavy meta.

    On a side note...

An interesting fact by looking at your games, around the ranks of 10+/-... You had 51 games vs Warlock/Hunter and 69 vs other classes. That's only 42.5% of all games. And I'm sure not all of the Warlock/Hunters were aggro/rush. Sure they are annoying, but not nearly as bad as most are making it out to be.

posted a message on Should Blizzard add more deck slots with the release of GvG?
    Quote from conway224 »

Blizz is probably just saving more decks as a selling point feature in the future of an expansion once we get a lot more cards. They do this all the time with their other games, spread out the most obvious game features as marketing tactics. Its easier than releasing everything people want right away and then trying to come up with original ideas.

I have played Blizzard games for the past 8 years and World of Warcraft from the start, this is completely true. I have seen it several times in several different games. While Blizzard does take its time to make their games very polished, they also do drag out feature additions for additional marketing when they can.

Blizzards main argument for not having more slot is that they want to keep the game 'simple' so that new players can pick it up easily. While on some level this is a good thing, on another level its total BS.

Ben Brode is always making comments about UI changes like this saying its a mess or hard to change UI stuff... Unless they really did a poor job coding the UI, its not that hard. Plus if they want to keep it simple... Just add options in the options menu, for people who are comfortable with the game and wish to look around.

I do feel that another 9-18 slots would be good, I do like having a couple different builds for each class.... But also at the same time, I am so comfortable with building decks, and do it so often, I know exactly where all the cards are and how many clicks it takes to flip to a certain minion and use the search function very efficiently. For convenience I would like additional slots, but it's not a deal breaker.

posted a message on Looking for a good deck for rank climbing past 10

Most Druid decks will work, I like Tempo and the new Miracle. So is a Deathrattle priest, there are a couple anti aggro priest decks listed currently. But the most efficient would be Zoo or Hunter, although I despise playing them. Any of these with smart playing should take you to Legend.

posted a message on How to go pro?

    Several ways to do it:

    1) Joining the smaller tournaments and placing well.

    2) Gather a large Twitch (stream) Following.

    3) Placing in top 5-10 in Legend

    4) Getting to know the current big name players.

Any combination of these would be a good first step. The easiest way would be to start entering the numerous small tournaments that go on every week. There are a decent number of them that you probably have never heard of. By getting recognized in those you will start to meet the current big names, and become recognized by the community (streaming helps with that). Or get in top 16 next year at Blizzcon or DreamHack for the quick road to fame.

Try using 2 Wild Pyros for better anti aggro, along with 2x Sunwalkers and/or Faceless Manipulator if you have them. Also, since you don't have a Cabal, you can run 2x Shadow Madness. Another combo if you run deathrattle with Undertakers is using Zombie Chow. If you can get one (or both) to pop with Auchenai out, thats some good extra damage, not to mention solid early game tempo play.

Edit: Another overlooked minion which works pretty well in priest... Maexxna, easily heal-able and great for clearing out minions.

posted a message on Underused Rogue Card

Great idea about the buffing. Rogue is just not a class that has largely intrigued me with it's current builds. I haven't made the core cards for it quite yet but was looking into it. I'm guessing that with the current limitations of the rogue being restricted to Miracle and Maly builds, that face damage is just too important to fit Betrayal in.

Thanks for the replies and my question has been answered for the most part. It's usable, possibly even good, but doesn't quite fit in the Miracle Burst builds.

This one is rather simple, I don't play much rogue so this isn't obvious to me...

But why is it that Betrayal is almost never used. It seems like a very efficient way to deal with 1-2 minions quickly. I mean, for any other class a 2 mana removal is quite good. I don't see why not, many minions have a higher attack than health so I don't see why this couldn't be amazing... Is there just not room, or some other reason?

In my defense I have also taken basic only decks into very high ranks couple times. In my experience problem of low ranked players isn't card collection but rather quality of play and quality of deck building (and blaming luck or whatever). Then again I judge those things with my Arena sensibilities. I know very little about Constructed.

That's the thing that most mid ranked players don't get. Yes, the cards you have access to does play a role... But the amount of blame players put on their decks/matchup/draws is just not accurate. It may not seem like it, because you only see your point of view, but its hard to see what your doing wrong or un-efficiently. Don't jump at the obvious play, contemplate what your turn is, and your next turn. You have to judge what they might have, how they can counter you, and how to force them to make the moves you want them to.

One thing I did that seriously helped my play... (seriously try it some time) :

Is watching pro players in tournaments and the like. Not only watching, but I would pick a side and every time after the draw I would pause it (preferably blocking the other players hand so you can't see it). Think out what I would have played, then see what they did. More often than not... I would have done something different. And if so I would figure out how my turn would have come out, and why they played what they played. It is these very small differences that make or break games, regardless whether or not you have the better deck or matchup.

This game isn't a reactive game, you can't just 'respond' to what they do. You need forethought and creativity to make those small game changing decisions.

This guy is downright terrifying... lol. I'm very glad the hunter has new options for deck type, though this can get out of control way too fast. I am almost wishing this guy had 7 attack so he would be vulnerable to BGH. He will draw out hard removal asap, but many of them will already have targets. The workaround will of course be damaging him first then BGH.

I don't like proposing it, but i had a similar experience when i started playing, although it was fun beating full legendary warrior on rank 17 with my Boulderfist Ogres, i was really depressed that people with such cards play on so low ranks... So one of the options is to concede in ranked every 2nd game to keep yourself near rank 20 where it will be much easier to grind gold. I've counted this method's effectiveness over Arena playing, and it makes more gold per hour even though my average Arena run is 5,5 wins. So i played this way for 2 month and quickly built a collection.

But i personally think it's cheating, Blizzard doesn't forbid it, although these people are ruining game experience for new players. So it's up to you.

I don't think I can agree with this. While yes, the illusion is that your making more gold... your not gaining card packs at the same time. Not counting daily quests, it takes 30 *wins* to get one card pack. Where in arena 5 or more wins will net you 50-100+ gold and a card pack.

If your just collecting gold, you can do what you suggested in Casual and it will keep your MMR rating low and get easier games, while still being able to keep climbing in ranked.

To the OP. In casual it keeps track of your win/loss vs other people and calculates a MMR (Match Making Rating) and depending on avaliable people, matches you somewhere close. If you quickly concede every other or so match, it will keep you low and pair you with others around that level. One problem you might be facing is that you just don't have enough games for it to have an accurate rating for you. In ranked its going to pair you with anyone +1/-1 your rank, so its harder to get people with equal decks, but is still pretty 'fair'.

I can say that I don't have an issue with the matchmaking, its consistent enough, don't expect to win 80% of games, it's just not that kind of game. You can't expect to be at the top in a couple weeks, its not like World of Warcraft where you can power level to the top in a weekend. Give it some time, be patient and learn from these 'unfair' matches. I'm sure it's more than just cards, looking at your deck list (I don't know what cards you have) but look over some decks posted and see what you can change to make it better.

posted a message on New player seeking advice. (Have lots of cards)

It can work, and even be decent. In a control deck there usually isn't enough space for that, but seeing as you don't have all of the 'perfect' cards, you cold make it more hybrid. More of a mid-range control type. The main problem being that Priest doesn't have a solid way to draw cards. Northshire is great when it works, but it doesn't always get value. 2 Ancient Watchers, 2 Ironbeak Owls and either 2 Sunfury Protectors or Defenders of Argus should be good in many circumstances, not only with the Watchers.

Something to keep in mind, it's usually better to include 2 of's in decks. Using alot of 1 of's while giving you variety, also makes your deck less consistent. Your more likely to draw into your main combos and key cards. Of course this isn't a hard rule, just something to try for.

Priest does have trouble dealing with heavy aggro starts. But usually a good Auchenai + CoH or Shadow Madness + your minions can usually turn it around by turn 4-6 if your not too far gone. Injured Blademaster + CoH is also a strong start that with healing, usually makes 3+ for 1 trades.

My favorite thing about Priest is that it has the possibility for a high skill cap. Its not easy to play, knowing how and when to play your many different control skills.

In the current aggro heavy meta, having 2 Auchenai Soulpriest is almost mandatory for the AoE. Cabal Shadow Priest x 1-2 and Shadow Madness x1 are also very much needed.. Depending on what cards you have think about adding in a Faceless Manipulator if you don't have many legendaries to copy theirs, or any other good minion. Some other strong minions that will help you are Sludge Belcher, Sunwalker, and Harvest Golem. I also like to run one Holy Fire, its a nice strong nuke, but the healing can also save your life. No need for Mind Blast of Divine Spirit (though it can get annoying).

posted a message on Different decks in different ranks?

No, not the same as Naxx, it will be more like the current list you already have. Just an expansion, of those 120-140 were expecting about 90~ of them to be class specific, 10 new cards for each class. Currently when you do an Arena you get some small rewards and a Pack of cards, the pack gives you 5 regular 'Vanilla' cards, (the ones we have now) after the expansion the pack rewarded will change to GvG cards. You will still be able to buy the 'Vanilla" packs in the shop for 100 gold.

I do still recommend you purchase the full Naxx dungeon for 24$. The complete set is worth over 40$ and the cards provided are very strong and will give you a great place to start. Almost every deck uses them and still will after the expansion. If you don't want to spend alot of money on the game, I recommend at least buying that. Though they can still be gotten with in game gold.

Right now, just focus on learning the game/cards. After you get more experience, read up on how to do well in Arena and focus on that. It is the best way to get Dust/Gold/and cards to fill out your collection if you can manage to get 6-7 wins per entry.

posted a message on Different decks in different ranks?

Since your new you may have not noticed but in about 2 weeks, Blizzard is adding 120 new cards to the game. So be careful what you do, whats good now may not be in 2 weeks.

These rankings are generalized and vary widely based on tech:

    20-15 : Everything works.

15-5~ : Around 50% Aggro decks (Hunter/Zoolock) / Counters: Other Aggro decks, Priest (Tough fight but over 50% wins)

5-1 : Less Aggro (40%~) / Counters : Aggro, Priest, Control Warrior, Druid, Shaman (Other classes work decently enough, these are just the main ones.)

Legend : Much less Aggro, mainly Control Decks (Handlock, Miracle Rogue, Priest, Warrior, Druid) / Counters : Any control deck, some mid-range Shaman.

    Deck Types:

Aggro/Rush Decks: Focus on small fast/charge minions. Classes like Hunter/Warlock. They try to deal as much damage to your hero as possible, with many small minions they can play more minions faster due to the fact that slower decks do not have as many low cost minions and end up getting overwhelmed. This can be countered with AoE spells and bigger minions they cannot trade with favorably. Countered by classes with good AoE spells and big heavy minions, if your not dead before you can get them.

Tempo/Mid-range: These decks focus on midgame and generally have very efficient minions and spells. Classes like Druid/Shaman try to use their minions to get 2 for one trades and aim for card advantage to stay ahead of their opponent. Pretty decent overall, but does have trouble with Control decks and very fast Aggro.

Control: These decks use a number of spells (removal and AoE) to control the board, holding off the enemy until late game where their stronger and bigger minions excel. Good against mid-range, and average vs Rush (really just depends on your draws and build).

Ramp: This is a subtype, limited to the Druid class currently. They use many high cost minions, that are made accessible by the spells Wild Growth and Innervate to get their minions out earlier.

Keep in mind, this is also an over generalization, but holds true on a basic level. There are so many cards and different builds that can be tuned for what you need.

As for deciding what direction you want to go, I first suggest leveling all 9 classes to at least level 10. That will unlock all the basic (free) class cards and give you an idea of what class you want to focus on first and give you some basic overview of the game, control vs aggro vs tempo vs etc.

As for building a 'strong deck'. The general idea "If I have lots of strong cards I can win alot", is very false. There is so much more than just the cards. There have been several people who have made it to Legend rank with just the free/basic cards, not saying its easy though. The best thing you could hope for in your first week of playing is just gain experience learning the different cards, and how each class uses them in conjunction with their hero power. Make sure to look at all of your options, not only the ones that are obvious. Think about what cards they could have, and how you can play around that or force them to make a move that is good for you.

If you would like help building a certain deck, or would like any suggestions just send me a private message. There are also decks listed in the decks section, you can also read the writeups and look at the costs to help you decide what you need/want to get started. Goodluck.
