I mean, I've bought a few expansion bundles and this season I did the rewards track pass... because I was curious how much I'd get out of it.
I don't regret doing that one, because there's a lot of extra stuff to gain, plus the bonus to overall gold just for playing.
But to stay competitive, you only really need to know what's good. Plenty of budget decks out there that can get to high legend rank, so... being efficient with your dust and smart with what decks you use, you really don't need to spend a lot for competitiveness.
I'm an idiot and I like trying weird off-meta things, so I usually end up wasting dust on stuff that sucks - but every once in a while I get a good feel off the weirdness... so it balances out, maybe?
hmmm I think you can keep up pretty well with the battle pass and maybe one of the 20€ bundles that pops up every now and then. You won't get to play ALL cards but it's good fun for about 10€/month
Nothing, F2P still completely viable. I can craft any deck, I just can't have all the collection and craft everything. If you don't want to spend any money, just don't spend it, it's really that simple.
These claims are always odd to me. I have not spent any money on this game since 2016 and that was only a preorder bundle. I have a good collection, get good amounts of gold, and have plenty of dust. I find it free to play with no issues and I play regular Hearthstone, Battlegrounds, and Mercenaries. I think there are 2 kinds of people who complain about these things:
1. People with buyers remorse. They spend a lot of money expecting that they would suddenly have an amazing experience by having everything. They can do all the cool stuff and win all the time. Only to find out the meta doesn't work that way.
2. People who are bad and think that the reason they are bad is because someone else has more stuff. Sometimes true, but certainly not always the case. Most of the time these people are just bad at the game and need an excuse.
How much have you spent to stay competitive?
No really... I feel like I've spent way to much and I'm starting to regret.
It never stops!!!!
I have paid A LOT, but i paid with my time, not the credit card.
Zero. 0.

Play to pay and never see a Reward.
Meanwhile over at the WoW folks, the smarter side of Blizzard's community (unlike HS) ...

First reply already answers the question.

I have spent a lot, but I haven't spent any money to "stay competitive".
Skill and time is what makes you competitive, not money.
Totally agree with that. You dont need to spent money to be competitive. I have spent a lot of money into this game and never been competitive ;)

What should the Reward be? The game is the reward, if you don't enjoy the game, why would you play it even for free?
Imagine calling the players who are whining on Blizzard's forums "the smarter side of Blizzard's community (unlike HS)".
English is not my native language, so, with a high probability, mistakes were made.

Don't worry, all the money we have invested went to charity. :P
