I just had a strange experience and would like to know if anybody else has seen something similiar. I'm not sure if it's a bug or if I just misunderstood the mechanic:
BUT: there were no Sparks summoned, though Crackle is an overload card...
I know, the card text on Thunderhead says "AFTER you play a card with Overoad...", but this is where I'm confused. So this is my understandig of the order of actions taking place:
2. The spell deals it's damage to the enemy minion.
3. Done! The condition for "Play a Card with Overload" should have been met to summon the Sparks!
That the enemy minion dies through the spell and triggers it's deathrattle should have been a different event, shouldn't it? I would have understood If I had tried to kill my own Thunderhead with an overload card (because it dies immediately). But I see the damage-effect of the spell and the triggered Deathrattle-Effect as two separate events. And between those, the Sparkles should have been summoned.
It can even be argued, that they could have served as potential targets for the Spider Bomb Deathrattle! (Though I get that this might be one step too far.)
So what do you think? Perfectly normal mechanic or something worth taking to the developers?
The thing is that first resolves the spell and everything it causes, and AFTER that, the thunderhead. Therefore the spider bomb deathrattle is stacked to the spell effect and triggers before thunderhead
Not exactly sure, but maybe because Thunderhead has the text "After" as opposed to "Whenever"? Since it's After, maybe it checks to see if the Thunderhead is still on the board and since it's not, you don't get the Sparks.
Like I said, this is more of a guess than anything. Hopefully somebody that knows more than I do will help.
The "after spell" phase doesn't begin until the spell has fully resolved, as well as anything triggered by the spell's effects. this includes deathrattles and subsequent minion deaths caused by said deathrattles.
Your Thunderhead was dead and gone before its effect could trigger.
Interestingly, this is related to why BEEEES!!! will not work with Dire Wolf Alpha -- the bees do not disappear from the board until the spell text (all four attacks) finishes resolving. (Minion removal is triggered by the minion being reduced to 0 health, so it is in the triggers step.)
Hi!
I just had a strange experience and would like to know if anybody else has seen something similiar. I'm not sure if it's a bug or if I just misunderstood the mechanic:
I had a Thunderhead on the board and played Crackle on an enemy Spider Bomb. The Spider Bomb got killed, triggered it's deathrattle and unfortunately killed my Thunderhead.
So far, so clear.
BUT: there were no Sparks summoned, though Crackle is an overload card...

"There is no spoon"
The order is:
