This is my first thread, so I apologize if this is a topic that has been done to death. How do you all feel about the lack of consistent expansion pre-orders? The pre-order bundles over the years have jumped around in price as well as what is being offered, and although there are normally bonuses appropriate to the asking prices there have been two outliers: The Witchwood and Rise of Shadows. In the case of The Witchwood, there was a record low of $0.71 USD per-pack; conversely, Rise of Shadows features the a $49.99 USD bundle that's very comparable to a pre-order available in The Boomsday Project, but it lacks a golden legendary card (there is a legendary included with the bundle, but it is not golden).
Personally, I have yet to pre-order this expansion, and this dip in value has me a little turned off to doing so. I still may end up pre-ordering, but I wanted to know if anyone else shares my sentiment. Obviously, complaining about the inconsistency and the worse bundle will change nothing, but I'd like to know your opinion. Does the dip in value bother you, or not really? How do you feel about the lack of consistency overall?
Disclaimer: This thread is not meant to be an echo chamber to support my opinion; I genuinely wish to hear other people's thoughts on the subject
I agree, I blame my skeptical mind, but i feel it is a sign for them to see how far they can go without changing their monetary gain, and so far this is the farthest I've gone in the prerelease schedule without buying in a long time. I'm sure that its not why they are doing it, but it still leaves a bad flavor in my mouth
They're probably trying to find the best deal for them and you're 100% right: WW was quite a good deal, Boomsday wasn't bad ( it has certainly led some rich players to buy both bundles) and RoS is a a little less attractive so I only went for the 80 packs bundle (but I'm rather happy with that as nothing justifies paying 130 euros on an expansion (80 is already too much))
It's all relative right? If you can afford it it's not expensive. I've bought every pre-order since they were a thing. I'm not sure as to why the prices fluctuate like they do, but I'm not bothered really.
This is the only game I play with any regularity and it's more of a hobby for me. Therefore I don't mind spending the money every few months. It would just go on my project car otherwise and that eats up waaaay more than £80 or so every 12-15 weeks.
Of course it is, Dr Einstein (sorry couldn't resist)... If the pockets are deep enough there is no issue... It's like flying first class... Most people just stare at the price of the ticket wondering how you can pay that sort of money for a few hours, some do it all the time and never even see the difference on their bank account...
As far as I understood the OP question, it's more a question of logic than a question of money. You and I seem to be able to spend more than 50 bucks every 3 months. Call me old school but, if I consider the deal to be poor, I just won't
I got some money back from overpaid taxes, so getting the big pack to celebrate it. That being said, I do long for the times where we got more packs and less fluff in the preorders, and think they're trying to push it quite a bit these days. WW were the best
I find the game to mostly be a rng fest, mind for some times in the meta where a new deck pops up that takes skill rather than an auto-win/lose match-up. I still buy a pre-order every expansion though, mostly because I get gift cards and have nothing else to spend it on. So yes I buy every expansion, but only generally play when there is at least some skill to games and not mainly rng.
The Boomsday equivalent of this thread grew to 37 pages, so hold on for the ride. . .
I suspect they looked at the Witchwood pre-orders compared to the KnC and the Boomsday pre-orders and they realized that the added value of the Witchwood did not create many extra orders. So, if very few bought the Witchwood that wouldn't have bought it anyway (as judged by who bought the pre and proceeding sets), why would they continue offering the better deal when it didn't entice more money to be spent?
That would be the most obvious explanation.

Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
Well I only bought witch wood because the deal was great. And some adventures. I am playing since beta.
I won’t preorder this one. I don’t ‘need’ all cards right away. The game gets stale faster if I have every mayor card right from the get go and test them the first week. And maybe blizz thinks the same way. It’s fun to have a good deck but missing some cards you can replace over the following weeks as you open them or craft them.
After 5-6 weeks I start saving again for the next expansion.
Not to forget: the expansions before witchwood offered only 50 packs/50$ without any legendary at all. And the „no duplicate legendary“ rule is a big game changer aswell! So yes, witchwood was generous but all in all it‘s still better then before!
Maybe it‘s because the frozen throne expansion was hearthstones all-time financial high and they wanted to give something back to the community?
Blizzard is experimenting with different bundles and collecting data to determine the optimal monetization for the game. It would be strange if they didn't.
