How surprising, a new feature, and a new bug! What a quality professional well-tested product Hearthstone is!
If you lose stars from your first game of the new season (I went from rank 18 0 stars, arena account on Asia) to rank 19 2 stars, so I lost 3 stars at once.
Why don't they bother testing this game before they push updates?
Probably caused by ranks lower than 20 previously having less than 5 stars.
Finally someone complains about real problems with the game instead of crying about this and that OP card, yet you need to come with these gifs. Sums up what's wrong with the community. Grow up.
That is because even though you are showing as Rank 18, you are Technically Rank 19 3 Stars. If you lose one, you are at Rank 19 2 stars. If you ever lost a game at a Rank and were at 0 Stars for that rank, if you lost another game, you would always be at the rank below with 1 star less than complete level.
Since the update, each rank has 5 stars so from Rank 18 0 stars he should go to Rank 19 4 stars.

Ranks have 5 stars now, so he shouldn't drop to 2 stars anyway.

No, before the update he was at Rank 19 3 Stars, even if it showed him Rank 18 0 Stars. That is why he is now at 2 Stars instead. It just looks like a bug because Blizzards "feel good all the time" philosophy made them present to you your rank in a way that felt more encouraging. You were Rank 19 3 Stars, even if it showed you as Rank 18 0 Stars. There is no Rank 18 0 Stars when you are acquiring stars, you jump from Rank 19 3 Stars to Rank 18 1 Star. It was just a presentation way to make you feel better.
You are perfectly correct. I was kinda surprised they'd mess up something so simple, but I didn't realize what's the reason.
While OP has TECHNICALLY found what could be called a bug, Perhaps OP should have WON their game - git gud - problem solved.
Kappa
Also, while OP has TECHNICALLY found a bug, this is pretty minor and very insignificant to hearthstone overall. Especially since the behavior is so easily explained away as a feature of being in limbo between the two ranks and the that rank being equivalent to fewer stars under the old ladder.
It's based on your highest rank and stars attained (supposedly), so it shouldn't have even put me at 0 stars after reset. But it did, so that's another bug then.
Or maybe it resets 4 ranks lower than highest (which was 14) but keeps number of stars you currently have (may have had 0 at rank 15, not sure, probably not though, since I completed a quest the day before with a win with rogue quest). EDIT: No, that was in wild, so maybe that was what happened.
If the UI shows you as rank 18 when you start a season, it should not be possible to drop lower than 19 4 stars with a single loss.
Also, I was rank 18 because I only do dailies and arenas on Asia server, so only get to rank 15 each month for the golden rare.
do you even brain? don't bother with this guy anymore clearly doesn't understand simple logic
You should probably have read my replies to understand. OP was at Rank 19 3 Stars when system changed (There is no Rank 18 0 Stars, it's just a presentation way to make you feel better, when you climb the ladder, you jump straight from Rank 19 3 Stars to Rank 18 1 Star). Since he lost a game at Rank 19 3 Stars, he is now at Rank 19 2 Stars.
No Bug, simply perception error due to the way Blizzard presents it. If they presented things correctly at all times, he would have started Rank 19 3 Stars and this wouldn't even be confusing to players, but they choose to keep players in Rank X 0 stars for presentation purposes because that is more encouraging, even though technically, you are at Rank X-1 full stars.
You're trolling, right? If the game was showing rank 18 (0 stars) you can say it's the same as rank 19 5 stars (YES 5 stars, NOT 3 because with the new ranked system, each rank has 5, again, FIVE stars). So if he lost a game, he should've dropped to rank 19, 4 stars.
The 5 stars per rank is updated on Asia so: Rank 19 (5 stars) -> Rank 18(0 stars).
So I didn't reset to rank 18 then, despite having my highest rank of 14, they reset me to 19 and 3 stars, but had the UI show 18 0 stars, and you are saying it's not a bug? Ok...
There must be a difference internally how they represent rank 18 0 stars and rank 19 with 1 less than max stars, because it looks different in the UI.
I guess you were on 14_3. +5= 19_3.
And that is displayed as 18_0 for the feel. After that, the changes hit and there where 5 stars each rank. I guess if you would've won, you would have seen 19_4 and not 18_1. Otherwise it has something to do with quantum mechanics...;)

...The problem is not the problem, the problem is your attitude to the problem.

You are forgetting the fact that all ranks have 5 stars now so he should be rank 19 4 stars.
There are 5 stars for every rank now though, so it makes no sense.
It's a bug.
You can say all that in a nicer tone..When you complain like that you sound like an over privileged 8 year old :) give or take a few years

Also also, rank 18 WTF, git gud man.
Also Kappa again
The ladder is bugged, there are legend players on Asia already.
Lost 3 stars at once ?
It's treason then.

So what is 14 + 4? Is it 18 or 19?
