"Up to the maximum number of cards you could put in a deck, we will give you the full dust value of any cards you have that are being added to the Hall of Fame set. (Yes, that means if you have at least one Golden Ragnaros, you'll get 3200 dust!) The dust will be automatically awarded upon log-in once the Year of the Mammoth begins."
I'm at 2700 dust right now, so it seems logical. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
So you wasted 1600 dust to craft the normal one. If you dont do anything you will get 1600 dust back when the expansion hits. So basically you got back what you gave. If you dust him, free 400 dust.
If you craft the golden too, you waste 3200. So all together 4800 for 2 Ragnaros'. One golden, one normal. Expansion comes, you get only 3200. So you basically wasted 1600. Then you DE the normal and get 400 back. You are still minus 1200 dust but with a golden Ragnaros. If you wanna make a profit don't do anything.
Basically don't do anything. You won't gain more dust by crafting golden, only waste dust.
If you go for that option, you'll miss out on 1200 dust you get from having a normal Ragnaros vs crafting a golden version, it's a 1600 dust gain for those not considering getting a golden version.
You have Rag: you get 1600 dust (+1600)
You DE Rag and craft golden Rag: you get 400 dust for the DE, pay 3200 to craft the golden and get 3200 back later (+400).
You have 2700 dust. With the expansion +1600 from normal Ragnaros so that's 4300. If you waste that 2700 and find 500 more for the golden, you sit at 0 dust when the expansion comes, and get 3200 back. So start of the expansion with 4300 or 3200.
if you plan to DE rag after the expansions you get 1600 + 400 if you do nothing = 2000 dust
if you DE him now for 400, and craft golden, you get 400 now... -3200 now, then after the rotation, +3200 and +1600... which.... equals 2000 dust..
If you don't want to DE rag after the expansion.. if you do what you say, you will only get 400 dust from your old rag.. so essentially you are paying 1600 dust to make your Rag golden..
Assume you do not craft golden rag. Your total dust after the expansion is 2700+1600=4300. (This is our default case, I think)
Assume you do craft golden rag. Your total dust after the expansion is 3200+you have golden rag (maybe call it 3100 since you had to DE 100 dust of cards that you can't reverse-craft?). You have gotten a golden legendary on sale for 1100 (or 1.2k, if you take the previous) dust (I.E. you have 1100 dust less than usual) Not that bad.
Alternatively, suppose you craft golden rag with regular rag's dust, and then DE him. You will have 3200+1600=4800, and have sold your regular rag at an increased rate of 500 dust. Pretty bad. In fact, this is the same effectively as keeping regular rag and disenchanting, since that would be 4700 dust (but you didn't spend the extra 100 dust from 2700->3200)
Now, the complicated case. Suppose we craft golden rag, disenchant it after, but leave regular rag untouched.
You spend 500 dust, as an immediate issue, but end up with 4800 dust and a regular ragnaros. So let's say that you have 4300, since you did have to disenchant 500 dust worth of cards. This comes out to the exact same as our default case, with the change that you decided to DE 500 dust worth of cards. Worse than basic.
So, what seems to be the outcome? If you kind of wanted a golden ragnaros, now is the time to make one, since it's effectively on sale for 1.1-1.2k. If you want to D.E. Rag, I'd say no, since it seems to be about the same either way, and your default case seems to have less hassle.
Hope that didn't look like a tangled mess of words and that it helped a little. (Honestly, I'm not 100% on my logic, but I think it's about sound.)
So, when a warrior uses Dead Man's Hand, what does that actually mean in terms of flavor? Is he the dead man? Does he cut off his own hand? Is that why he has Tentacles for Arms? Does he think that tentacles are actually as good as arms?
These reasons and more are why I think warriors are more mysterious than people give them credit for.
Just don't do what I did.... which was craft a golden Ragnaros, Lightlord (instead of Ragnaros the Firelord) a week ago and not realize it until yesterday. And whaddaya know? Not enough dust to craft the Golden Ragnaros the Firelord afterwards so I had to burn through 1500 gold on packs. At least Lightlord is perdy :P

FOR THE HORDE!

Seems ok.
I stand corrected, thanks for enlightening me.
I'mma just crunch a few numbers here.

Someone did a really good guide on what to do with rotating cards. Look it up.
If you don't want to I'll save you some time. It's not worth it.
