I always thought that bgh had weak stats. It would be more balanced if he was a 4/3 just so that he is not so easily removed after being played. But other than that in what way does he limit design space? Prophet Velen doesn't get played because it's just a bad card in general when comparing it to other legendaries that are available and can you people not think for yourselves without having to use quotes or ideas from twitch streamers to prove a point? Seriously to the dude that used Reynard as an example lol Reynard whines about every card that beats him
Wow, taking ideas from others, thinking about them, combining them with my own and then making my own ideas that maybe resemble (not to mention that I might've just come to the same conclusions as others) is now a bad thing. Like that who knows what technology would be like.
The problem with Big Game Hunter is that all the cards from Naxx and specially GvG will be going away. GvG had obviously set a new, aggressive state in the game with extra powerful cards like Piloted Shredder and Dr. Boom. You might think Prophet Velen is a bad card, but that's because you're comparing him to the cards we have right now. once GvG goes away the game will definitely slow down at least in the raw power of the average card. Big Game Hunter might not be overpowered right now, in fact he might be a need ever since Dr. Boom but the discussion of a nerf to him definitely needs to arise as we are going into the new standard mode. If he goes away who knows how many other cards like Prophet Velen will see play and give us a much more richer and diversified game? Same goes to Knife Juggler, who is pretty much the standard 2 drop for everything. Nerf him, and now many other 2 drops suddenly see play. That's what it is to be a card that limits card design, because for Knife Juggler being in the game means that every other 2 drop developed has to be as good as him or have a too special effect to see play.
The game's cards, overall, will weaken in their raw power. Who will be the new standard 4-drop after Piloted Shredder? Who will replace Shielded Minibot in paladin? That's why BGH is also questionable along with many other cards that are seen in every nerf discussion on this website. When you remove GvG there are cards from classic that MIGHT be too powerful.
Go ahead and nerf BGH I can play greedier cards without consequences, sounds good...unless I'm druid then I pretty much auto lose since they have bad removal. If anything just make it a 2/2. Its effect is so strong it doesn't really deserve to be able to kill a 7+ minion and then trade into a 3-4 drop. But the effect is fine.
In this game we have a counter card that is very well balanced called The Black Knight. TBK is well balanced because it removes a certain type of minion while also playing a body to the board to give you a +1 card advantage, but at the cost of two mana worth of stats. BGH, on the other hand, removes a minion and puts a body on the board to give you that +1 card advantage at the cost of less than one mana worth of stats.(Not to mention that targets for BGH tend to be higher cost than the targets for TBK so it tends to get even more value)
If BGH was balanced a little more like TBK then I think it would be a perfectly balanced card, but as it sits it is not.
I just played the pre Justicar version of control Warrior who crapped consecutively Geddon,Boom, Ragnaros and Grommash in my face, this is why BGH is needed.

Cool, what deck were you playing, for that matter? Your arguement is completely baseless without a deck.
I'm going to say this once and for all - you don't nerf BGH. It's a so called "tech" card , which means that you don't play it just because it's generally a good card, but rather against others considered such. In today's meta, BGH doesn't have a lot of targets outside Dr. Boom( Grommash?). Not even a lot of decks run it right now and after Standard mode comes to HS, it might completely disappear. So no, it's not a good nerf since the card doesn't need one.
Partly the reason it doesn't have that many targets is that this one card kicks out most big drops from the meta game. Poor rag, death wing, all those cool cards get the boot solely because of the existence of BGH. The main problem with it I think, is that it not only kills a big minion, it develops a decent 3 drop. Giving it weaker stats would actually help the problem a lot because it wouldn't generate that much of a tempo swing.
Point 1: after TGT and LOE people have been fiddling around with deathwing warrior and ragnaros as a finisher in tempo mage.
Point 2: Meta ebbs and flows are a normal thing in HS. In the past every druid ran Ancient of War, and so most other decks ran the black knight in response. Then druids stopped playing Ancient of War and now dark knight sees little to no play, while people still play Belcher. I suppose that after Standard has kicked in the same thing will happen to BGH.
Point 3: No one plays BGH on turn 3 as a tempo play. If you draw him on turn one he is a dead card in your hand for 6-10 turns. At turn 7 or 8 a wrathable 4/2 is not much different from a 2/2. So go ahead, make him a Wisp or a Target Dummy, people won't be able to care less since they play him for the battlecry.
I think BGH could use a nerf, but I'd vote for a lesser one than outlined here.
Personally, I'd keep it the same, but make it kill any minion with 8 or more attack. Otherwise, Alextrasa, a buffed Grommash and all the giants would just be unstoppable. Handlock would just be extremely difficult for anything to counter.
This way, Velen, Rafaam, Varyan, etc.. could get more play, but the dragons and giants would stay in check.
I'm also cool if he doesn't get nerfed, but this is my proposal if he does.
BGH is fine. Once Boom is regulated to the graveyard known as wild, you'll hardly see BGH anymore. It was created as a hard counter to high attack minions. High attack minions are balanced and created with BGH in mind. It is one of the best designed cards in the game.
You make him 5 mana. He still contests early giants and hes on par with tech cards with that kind of power level: Bomb Lobber, Healbot, Sludge Belcher. Easy.

Good luck in this aggro meta, enjoy your rank 18 class. Control Warrior too slow.

The only way for this to be true is if NO ONE plays anything over 6 attack, else BGH will remain an autoinclude. I will just run 5 and 6 attack minions which outperform 7+ attack minions.

BGH defenders, just like all the others defending OP cards are illogical. Their excuses have been debunked. Blizzard is nerfing handlock, meaning this is a strong hint they are nerfing BGH and therefore, the giants are being nerfed too. Also every class but Druid and Lock have good, cheap removal and this may change in the upcoming expansion. BGH defenders even contradict themselves by saying stuff like "BGH is fine, just don't play anything over 6 attack" Guess what, if BGH doesn't get nerfed, I will have to take their advice :(
