You know, the drawback reminds me of Millhouse syndrome.
If you don't know what that is, it's when one plays millhouse manastorm, and the opponent uses all of his spells in one turn because he can't resist. You then go on to win the game since the opponent used all of his removal. Works best against mage/shaman; never play milhouse against paladin.
Fel Reaver is like this since your opponent might go on to mill you since he/she can't resist and discard all of your cards, but fail to kill the Reaver itself. You then swing for 8 or more damage and probably win the game after that given you have a reasonable board.

That's exactly what I'm seeing. I had a mage that threw a frost bolt at it when he could've killed the minion beside it. He then followed up with a frost nova. I just followed up by just filling the board. Eventually, he realized he had a LOT of damage swinging at him and went for a flamestrike, which left me with the Reaver and a few other creatures alive for me to buff/heal back. He then realized he spent the last 3 turns effectively doing VERY inefficient plays and giving up all semblence of tempo. I pulled one fatigue card then finished him off.
Note that 8/8s aren't that hard to stop normally. We fight off giants and tanks regularly . but Reaver makes you give up your optimal plays to go for The Dream.
Given that I've learned the lesson. Treat Fel like any normal giant and don't give up optimized play for card burning. Just kill the thing, and move on
I only seen it played once against me so far. I power word: shield my minion, cast thoughtsteal and cast shadow word: death on the fel reaver. My opponent lost 9 cards, and ragnaros was among them. He conceded soon after that.
This is one card I expect I will never feel the urge to experiment with.
I think it's a card that needs to be played wisely. I've used it in a rogue deck in arena that recently went 12-2. Played turn 4 with coin or turn 5 with some board control it can win you the game. It's still very good if your opponent only has one or 2 cards in hand. You should not play it when your opponent had both a lot of cards and mana and it will not save you if you're behind in board presence.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
I got burned playing Fel Reaver too in Arena. It's fun having a bunch of spare parts when your opponent drops it.
Always looking for casual play and meeting new people. Hit me up at adampjr#1929 (NA).
