I was really looking forward to this, thinking it might add something more enjoyable to the game for a while, while we wait for the big shake up coming this spring.
But my first 3 Arena's with the Wild format have been disappointing, at the least. The big problem (and maybe it was just bad luck on my part) is that the additional cards seem to have "diluted" the card pool, and also seem to have completely messed up synergy in building a deck.
The worst example was a Hunter deck I built (or better said, tried to build). First pick gave me 2 cards that had beast synergy. Being that it was a Hunter, I planned to build a beast deck. Of the remaining 29 cards, I picked every beast that was offered ... which amounted to 3 cards :-( It literally just ended up a jumbled mess of cards, and it resulted in what I think may be the only 0-3 arena run I have ever had. I am by no means a great Arena player, but I can almost always get 5 wins or more.
My other two drafts were not as bad, but were no where near good either. I'm not sure I have even been given the option of a Legendary yet, and every deck just feels clunky.
I was really hoping to see more of the "classic" Wild cards. (Not the Classic set, but the more renowned cards), like Reno, Sylvanas, ect.
Have others been experiencing the same thing? I really want to keep at it, because it seemed like it was going to have so much potential, but it looks like it became "too much of a good thing" ... putting too many cards into the pool.

I think including current standard cards in the arena (and in wild mode in general) is a mistake and missing the point. It should be wild-only cards, and when things rotate out of standard it would be like a new expansion for wild players. At the moment wild arena is just the same as standard arena with a few wild cards here and there.
Obviously with card pool being twice (or more? too lazy to check that) as big as previously, there will be even more problems to assemble any synergies between cards. I mean that was to be expected, so no surprise there.
Best way to play the Wild arena is the way it has been always played: you either curve out and aggro down your opponent, or you go the other way and clear clear clear until your opponent runs out of cards. Yup, its super fun :)
I was never an advocate for Wild arena to come back and you can clearly see why. I like it as an event, i will take a couple of weeks to change up the experience for a while, but i am so glad it wont stick around for good. Or at least not in a forseeable future.
wild arena is just curvestone is its shittiest form. thats why we said that wild arena is crap but all the casual players were crazy about it, so there it is, go an play it while you can... :-p
For purposes of synergy, they should do rotations instead of a big wild-fest. Mix in GvG with the standard cards for a month, and you can actually hope for mech synergy during that month. Do Naxx for a month, and you can hope for deathrattle cards. I think it's fun to see the old cards again. I loved getting Entomb again. Brought back fun memories. Fun to go against a Sylvannas again too.
With everything at once, synergies are too diluted. Just pick good cards.
Come on guys, even with the increased card pool it is strange to get so few beasts in a hunter deck. There are a bunch of wild beasts too.
No, its not weird. This was a thing even way before Standard was introduced (so thats like minus couple hundred cards compared to this event's card pool). You tried to go for beast synergy with hunter and you got 5 beasts :D Very very common thing to happen.

Not sure that would be that great. All you are effectively doing is putting Arena back to the way it was 2 years ago, the arena post LoE, pre-Old Gods. Not sure I want to go back there :P.
Perhaps an added boost to wild cards so you get them more often.
Though OTOH, then you realize why we were REALLY happy to see those cards go away. Blizzard was far worse at deck design back then. Compare the legendary set of K&C compared to GvG. :P
Also Sinti is right. We're learning more and more that 'more cards =! moar fun'.

Since I wasn't around back then, I didn't have any reference to go by. I was really looking forward to Wild arena since I just recently also started playing Wild, and have enjoyed it quite a bit. I'll give it a shot with the Curvestone idea as suggested and maybe it wont be so bad. I just made the mistake of trying to build a deck the way I have been, and that was "not quite what was planned" :-)

I don't think the Wild cards have as high an offering rate. I did a draft on Monday and at first I thought I'd misread the announcement, because my first 9 picks were 27 standard cards. After that, I got some wild cards, though. Ended up going 11 wins with a mediocre Mage deck. I'm not sure if it's because more newbies were playing, or because I was around when all of those cards were in the arena and newer players haven't faced them, or what, but it seemed a lot easier than normal. Only thing that stopped me from going 12 was when a shaman played the druid deathknight he'd discovered from lotus agents after a string of insane RNG rolls.
Problem with Wildfest is that the KNC bonus is still in, the microadjustments of KNC is still in, so Wild cards don't even appear that much. Plus many wild cards are just forgettable crap.
I don't mind that the format is more tempo-driven but it still feels like KNC to me since it seems obvious there's the KNC bonus at work.

Ahh, well if the KNC bonus is still in, then yeah, it would mess with getting the proper number of Wild cards.
Incidentally, I think I played against you during that run. I remember facing a 'Tachii' because I've seen the name on the arena leaderboards. If you remember having a bad draw as a golden hunter against a golden mage who managed to combo a bonemare with a discovered molten reflection... sorry :p I don't know how people get 30 runs in a month... I'm lucky to get a dozen :p
i did 10 runs so far, once i got a 7-3 which i did not expect to do with a priest. the only reason was i had psychic scream which gave me 3 wins, litteraly. The rest is all 2 wins-3losses.. it looks like all other players get the best curves and i am stuck with 2 or 3 2-drops.. besides that i get topdecked for lethal a lot..
i was hoping this would be fun, but its the opposite of fun, i get crushed 9/10 games, i won't play arena for some time now, just let this madness pass.
I draft and play on my phone while I'm commuting to work. Becasue of this, I dont have any special tools, I just make screenshots and log the games when I have the time.
I had some today.
So far it this event I played 121 games, win % with coin: 56.92%, win w/o coin: 76.36%. I've never had a diference this big... The meta is just simple aggro curvestone.
30% of my opponents were paladins, 21.67% were mages. These two classes are more than 50% combined! That makes most of the games the same. Fun fact: I played against shaman 6 times so far, I won all the time against them. :)
I didnt expect too much from this event, but its crappier than I thought...

I am seeing a lot of Wild cards ... just not many of the really cool ones I was expecting. (Which is also part of why I am struggling with it so much. I wasn't playing when these cards were in use, so knowing what is good or bar, outside of just looking at the card is tough.
I am having better luck just building the deck based on curve, but I still did much better with the normal format. Seeing some of the of the old cards is cool. I do like the idea someone posted earlier about rather than just making it a free for all. adding in 1 or 2 sets may have been better.

the additional cards seem to have "diluted" the card pool, and also seem to have completely messed up synergy in building a deck.
It's about expectations. The effect you describe above was super predictable. I expected it, so it didn't disappoint so much. I think in general we all were feeling a little over-hyped about wild arena. It's arena with wild cards, that's it. Curvestone was inevitable. I'm better at it than standard, probably because I don't play enough to be good with more nuanced decks, I can admit it.
Even next week's Brawliseum is bound to disappoint. It's just broken wild decks you can play in ranked now. Playing in arena format for prizes is a nice novelty, but it's not any more exciting than that.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the Brawliseum at all. I'm on the fence about even playing it - do I suffer through three humiliating losses just to take the chance of winning a game or two (which is probably going to be my ceiling), or do I just retire the initial deck, take my prize, but breathe easy at not having to get stomped three games in a row? If I played, it'd probably be a Reno deck...I hate aggro and combo decks, so I won't play as them.

We sound pretty similar. I have the cards to make a competitive wild deck, but no experience at all, don't even know what deck to build. My plan is to build something super aggro. If I get stomped 3 times, it'll be over quickly. Maybe I'll steal a win or two.

You just shouldn't aim for synergy in the current Wild Arena. Go for curve with individually good cards and you are off better
