So I got Fandral Staghelm on my last pack and figured I wanted to try it out.
I play some games and barely manage to cast it, when I get paired against another druid. I have Fandral by turn 4 and a Druid of the Claw waits in hand for the next turn... I have board control, so odds are it's not dying. Except that my opponent top decks a card and plays it... and it's Raven Idol. It's ok, there are 26 spells in standard and only 6 kill fandral, and he only has mana to cast 3 of them this turn. And then Mulch happens. I rage a little bit on the inside. Oh well let's check what I go... oh, look, another Fandral Staghelm. I couldn't help emoting "Spetacular" on turn 6, when I played it, lol. I guess the circumstances allowed. I wish I had a screenshot, but I was playing on the tablet.
What are the odds of actually getting the same card? Even with the reduced pool in standard there are still hundreds of minions! Quite convenient to get exactly the one your deck is built around.
On a side note I was considering crafting mulch, as kolento uses it. Will probably postpone that.
There is a reason mulch has almost never been used until recently, more so at the start of the expansion. A "removal" that could just as easily bone you is quite counter productive. The odds of a particular card, quite low, more so the exact one it destoyed. But I'd put it quite high on chances of it back firing quite high.
if i dont miss in the game is about 744 cards without naxx and gvg about 570 cards, so chance to get fanrdal back again was 1\570. Actually fendral is pretty bad legendary, especially when i got two fenrals from packs in a row

Yeah, thats why all play on tournament with fanrdal *sarcasm*. I can compare it with common which give magic immune to nearby minions. It give effect when it is on table but it wouldnt stay for a long time. F.e ysera give smth when it is at the table but it has 12 hp.

Finally: Fanral has good effect but low hp
What kind of horrible troll argument is that?
Fandral Staghelm does not see a ton of tournament play because Druid as a class does not see much tournament play at the moment. If you do however look at the few Druid decks that arctually make it to tournaments you'll see that Fandral Staghelm quickly became a staple in most any Druid.
In the recent Fireside Gathering Tournament all of the notable players that had a Druid deck in their line up also included Fandral in said deck.
thats the point but how many druid players with Fandral Staghelm won smth. I can say nobody, did it win many games. I can say no, did it lose much. I can say yes
Yeah, Kolento actually uses mulch because of the shaman 7/7, druids have no answer for that other than trading, now that BGH is gone. I realize the odds of giving your opponent a good/excellent card are not low at all, but it is a form to gain tempo, also answers anything... in a way it's like Sap, except that a surprise awaits you.
I wish I didn't have to do this so often. If you are salty, there is a wonderful world of fellow salty people just waiting to comfort you. But "standard format" is not the correct forum to post your tears in.
Fandral has a combined attack and health which are double his mana cost. That normally makes a good legendary. His ability makes him one of the best in the game.

The real shame is that cards that would have once provided solid support to set up the board for Fandral (Keeper of the Grove, namely) received balance checks precisely because playing them AFTER Fandral would give you way too much power. As it is, Fandral Stagehelm is never a card to be played raw; if you want any card to get the Double Value off of Staghelm, you NEED to play it on the same turn or risk Hex, Polymorph, Shield Block(or Bash)+Shield Slam, Equality/Humility+1 Damage, Soul Fire+Mortal Coil (or a weird Shadowflame play that you should have seen coming in the first place), Shadow Word: Pain (or Embrace the Shadow+Flash Heal), Shiv+Eviscerate, Kill Command or even Explosive Shot.
Of course, not all of these get play in tournament decks due to the archetypes that are viable at top level (with Rogue I feel like I REALLY had to stretch to fit 5 damage in 4 mana now that Oil's gone), but the point is every class has a way to deny Fandral the moment he appears without even touching any of their own minions. He's a huge target in a phase of the game where everyone's deck is still loaded with removal normally saved for late-game drops with massive stats or for clearing a path to face. Lucky that Owl costs 3 now, or Fandral would quickly become a neutered Yeti with all the removal options available.
This does not make him bad. In fact, the whole point of blowing removal extremely early to take out a measly 3/5 is because Fandral doubles the value of the majority of druid cards. He's an excellent legendary in a class that has a hard time defending him.
