Also having excess rare coins is just... going to happen. Rare mercs are easy to get and rare coins are easy to farm. Even if they give us something to do with them ,it's not going to be anything all that spectacular when they're so easy to farm. I'd rather honestly that they let us use coins to buy cosmetics. But I know they're not going to do that.
If you're farming HCs, you're likely to get more rare/epic coins then the legendary (roughly 27% leg, 31%ish epic, 40%ish rare). You're also going to be getting far more coins for those heros you heavily use than for others (since one bundle is always mercs in your party). Oh, and rare mercs are used heavily in most PvE teams.
A glut of rare/epic coins is to be expected, honestly. Even if there's no weighting away from legs other than in the bounty rewards (in party and random bundles look flat, but my data on in-party is sketchy and on random is going to be nowhere near enough datapoints given you get 1/3 of those compared to bounty rewards and the pool is HUGE. Also no data on Q rewards), you'll still get more rare and epic coins than you can use.
Would be nice to convert at a low rate, but that won't happen, thinking about it. Blizz don't want grinders to be able to craft new mercs as soon as they drop without paying. There's no real use for excess coins that doesn't run out.
completely agree with you, could not have said better myself.
absolutely "in future" and "maybe" does not cut it. I dont want useless rewards for couple of months at least. They should've made it better and provided some kind of a dupe protection for coins.
The thing is if you read what is under the chest ie "Earn some coins for the Mercenaries in your party plus a random one of the following:" there should be duplication protection.
Say you run a team containing only King Mukla and King Krush in Ferocious Quilboar (which rewards Millhouse Manastorm, Xyrella or Rokara) you should get Millhouse Manastorm, Xyrella or Rokara and coins for King Mukla and King Krush.
But that is not what you get. You get coins for King Mukla or King Krush with the remainding two set of coins in the chest.
We can't trust what is written in Hearthstone itself so why should be trust what is written/said outside hearthstone?
Dumbess example ever since heroic Quillboar only gives u 4 rewards for HC, i.e. 3 from the loot pool and 1 for ur party. So yes. What is written happens to be true.
Unless u have an actual example that says otherwise lol.
Edit: in reply to Maximaras quote. Still not used to this lol.
+30k excess coins here and stil rising... Wish we could trade them for coins. Either coins for a rarity or neutral coins which can be used on any merc
- Legendary coins: 60-1; Epic coins: 45-1; rare coins: 30-1 excess coin conversion rate. OR - Neutral coins. Every coin will cost 50 excess coins to generate 1 coin which can be used for any mercenary regardless of rarity.
I think one of those two conversions would be reasonable.

"in future" and "maybe" it's when you should give them your money.
That's the only way to change things, stop preordering.
The bar on what's acceptable keeps getting lower and lower (in both monetization and quality) yet people keep giving them money.
Why would they make things better for us?
They already proved that they don't care about running IPS to the grounds for quick bucks.

Imo, exceeding coins likely will be useful for new abilities when heroes level up in future.

Careful earning all those coins guys, Blizzard may go bankrupt when they finally let you convert them :p
The reason a fair few of us have 100+ packs gathering dust at the moment
