I agree. Part of the reason I'd like a tiered system is for the incentive to go for that top spot. Would give you a slight feeling of elation and improve the BG experience imo.
Question (because I don't pay too much attention and haven't noticed): If you get 5th place but win some MMR (because the rest of the field was quite a bit stronger) do you get 1 win towards the 10 gold? Same with getting 4th place and losing MMR

I just played a game of Battlegrounds, it's a great addition to HS, but there's one reason I don't play it that often.... gold.
I won, but spent 38 minutes to gain one star towards 10 gold.
I'm not one for grinding gold, but I do take it into consideration when spending so long for such a small award.
I'd be more keen to play if we had for example. 1st place = 4 stars, 2nd = 3, 3rd = 2 and 4th place the same reward as at present = 1 star.
I won't be playing Battlegrounds again this week, off to ladder with my Secret Mage.
It’s not meant as a way to farm gold. You don’t need gold to play Battlegrounds.
They're incredibly mean with gold in BGs, they could atleast say if you finish outright first, that is 10 gold, and keep three top 4 spots for 10gold.
That is not asking for much, also incentivises going for first which makes sense, and is far harder to achieve than a 4th.
