I havnt played wow since before Garrosh went on his time travelin adventure and history was rewritten. I recently saw the new expansion in a store and decided to read the inside cover to see what's happenin, it says Gul'dan is now looking for the remains of Illidan; the irony here being that illidan became as powerful as he was by finding the remains of Gul'dan.
ANd before anyone points out that the skull of Gul'dan was not the only demonic artifact illidan found, I'd like to point out that he found the Eye of Sargeras in a tomb raised from the ocean floor by none other than Gul'dan, another thing which never happened in the new story.
I can accept gul'dan being alive but there have to be consequences. In this timeline, illidan would never have become a demon and his remains would be ordinary and worthless. Can anyone else shed light on the strange relationship between the Dans Gul and Illi?
It didn't but then I thought of the scene from Back to the Future 2 where Doc grabs a chalkboard and now it does, it totally makes sense, thank you
Oh yeah, BttF wont' help at all in understanding the situation since that movie series perscribes to the one-path version of how time works. That is, there's only one timeline so any changes to the past of one will affect the future.
WoW...and a LOT of stories nowadays, uses Multiverse theory where every choice you could make branches off into mulitple timelines: if I could go left or right, there's a universe where I went left and one where I went right. "MY" universe is simply the one I traveled based on which direction I chose to go.
Sidenote: the folks that are time traveling technically aren't CHANGING anything either. Instead they are entering timelines who are based around them entering the timeline. That is, Garrosh didn't enter someone else's universe and CHANGE it into "orcs didn't drink". That dimension already existed and, thus, Garrosh basically entered it at the spot he was meant to enter it into. In fact, have we seen ANYTHING different in the dimension other than what Garrosh caused?
If not then that means that dimension is from their perspective the "What if some guy named Garrosh came in from another dimension and made the orcs not drink?" Dimension.
Interesting concept.. that also means there's a universe where the orcs decided not to drink WITHOUT interference. Or one where Garrosh interfered and failed to convince the orcs wihch also means there's a universe where everything up to Warlord's happened but Warlords/Legion didn't happen because Garrosh failed to cause his mischief.
A ton of different writers coming up with incoherent excuses to make a good gameplay experience.
There is so much Blizzard lore that makes absolutely no sense, I find it fascinating that you guys are still trying to explain it
Blame Garfield and Friends. When I was young I watched that show and one episode was about explaining the hidden rules about cartoon physics. Ever since then, I've been big on trying to explain fictional worlds, even if it's clear the logic in them makes no sense or was never cared for.
Though generally, the second time travel is involved the story is pretty much broken no matter what.

maybe for wow lore clarifications its better to ask in specific wow-related communities.
