You must make a card with flavor that is appropriate for a classic detective novel.
Before they settled on what became The Witchwood, Blizzard was going to create a "murder on a train"-style mystery expansion. We should find out what happened to those cards!
No need to make a Murloc Holmes card, as he's already on the case.
We have whittled down 12 valid submissions to just 10of the community's favorites. Check out all the finalists below and vote in our poll (vote for as many or as few as you like) to help decide the winner and be sure to check back after the poll finishes for the announcement of the winner and the start of a new theme!
I've spent waaay too much time searching for artwork for this idea to not submit it in the end. I hope it's not too complicated, but i don't have time for designing anything else.
Hey! You mentioned all the other cards bt you didn't even mentioned my one? Is this a joke? where is Sir Thomas Magnum?!
Two cards received no votes and thus didn't make the final - yours was one of them unfortunately.
Didn't receive votes? haha,,, let me ask you a question! pls kindly! check who voted the other posts bt didn't get a single vote from them! then come to such easy conclusion!

Hey! Just a few friendly tips. I think in this case the main thing that cost you was presentation rather than the card itself. The 2 main things are: 1) Your font and stuff are different to in game. http://www.hearthcards.net is awesome for easily making perfect cards and most the fan creation forum uses it. 2) Your art doesn't match the in game art style. Using actual photos is particually bad as it blatantly doesn't fit with the rest of the card art. I usually try googling "Fantasy X art" so "Fantasy detective art" would be good for getting art in this case. Also replacing fantasy with a game name like world of warcraft can help with getting more specific art.

Well, tell me, Is there a difference between an innovative Different Art and a Common MTG or WoW Card Art used by everyone? I wanted to do things differently and get a Medal of Appreciation, bt what did i get? Elimination for voting others?!!

You don't have to vote other people on your page. I do for these ones because its just a mini comp, but no ones forcing you to vote. And yeah, the font/art aren't great.

I think one thing a lot of people do when voting is to ask themself if they could see the card in hearthstone. If it's really out of place the answer will probably be no and they wont vote for it. Sometimes the tried and tested way turns out to be the best. Also vote trading isn't really allowed so people tend to vote based on the card, not the user. I'd suggest giving the traditonal approach a try, hopefully it goes well!
Why aren't you morons understanding the simple matter? On the submission page, I voted everyone, they got points, they got selected, i didn't get votes, i got eliminated! This has nothing to do with Card Art cause this is not Blizzard! or is it?! This is a HS Community where anything New or Innovative should be given a chance and apprerciated! Well, i am getting tired of this! this stupid competition doesn't even give a Reward so i am not falling for it! You do your work and let me do mine! We will find out who is great and who is not!

These competitions are ultimately based on upvotes. Those who have the most will be in the final poll. Usually it's one finalist per page, but since this time there was only one page, the submissions with the most upvotes from that page were selected. Some cards had 2, or even 3 upvotes. Yours had 0. The final pole normaly has around 8-12 submissions no matter how many cards were submitted in total.
The point is, by upvoting everyone else, you literaly lowered your chances to become a finalist. Who upvoted what card does not matter. You are supposed to upvote cards that you like and belive might exist in hearthstone. Few people upvote cards on the same page as their submissions (mini-comps being an exception, as usualy there only is 1 page) because it lowers their chances of winning.
Yes Yes i know i made a fool of myself. Bt nothing can be changed at this point. Some people would remain unthankful and i will be blamed for that. No big deal. Today or tomorrow is not Armageddon. We have days to improve our policy.

@Long_John_Silver: I feel you. When I first started making cards and posting them here, I thought making things differently would be appreciated. For example I like cards that are not good at first glance, have a downside or are in general not easily predictable without thinking about them. In the end, the community is rather closed and conservative. Therefore my personally preferred cards will never win, but a lot of Timmy designs win. That's just the (boring) reality I had to accept.
I partly agree with you concerning the mini competitions. On the one hand, if it wasn't for you, there basically wouldn't be any proper finals. On the other hand, your card looks like it was made with a potato. It just wasn't aesthetically appealing. I thought about voting for your card, but didn't because of this simple reason. There is a difference between making things differently or making them better. Take at it as a learning experience and keep on testing the waters. Find out what resonates better with the community. Keep on making cards, you got some raw talent!
It's nothing new. Just the same users all this time posting in every "competition" available.
If not us then who? I really don't understand this criticism. There are few people who enjoy making cards, so logically, these people would always participate in these competitions. Others simply don't find it enjoyable and it's okay.
It's like complaining that in minecraft the same group of people would participate in building contests. Of course they will. A few like the creative aspect of the game, while others enjoy the pvp, or the survival aspect of it.
Well you gotta admit that it is a rather closed circle and it is difficult to get in. The moderators are pushing - in my opinion - a very similar design style and it is not easy to enter the fan creations forum and stay. E.g. I put up a thread with custom cards asking for feedback and did not receive a single response! How is that fun and inclusive? How are interested members supposed to get better?
I see the main flaw in the competitions: the page system, calculation who makes it into the finals etc. should be fundamentally reworked! Also in the discussion thread, I sometimes get this circlejerk feeling. People who bounce ideas back and forth and end up voting for each other, while ignoring other users.
Tbh I am a bit annoyed... I got my WCDC frame, so I don't care, but it gets harder to enter these competitions as an outsider
I did not see this comp coming where was the theme even shared at first?
Mini Competitions are simply posted in the FC forum without any promotion. Since they run for such a short time, advertising them on the front page would just result in a bunch of unwanted spam, especially during card reveal season.
"Sigh" Let's get this straight everyone. You are allowed to make and post any card in these competitions, as long as they meet the requirements set by the competition rules and the prompt rules. If you feel like using art that doesn't seem like it comes from a fantasy universe, you're 100% allowed to use that, and noone should blame you for it.
Expecting someone to vote for you, because you voted for them is strictly against the rules, as it is quite literally vote manipulation. You should vote for the cards that you like. You shouldn't feel obligated to vote for anyone, based on their personality, or whether you know them.
People, in general, have a tendency to vote more for cards they've helped discuss, for the strict reason that feedback shows what would make a card vote-worthy in the eyes of the one giving the feedback.
You may see that a lot of people are "pushing" newcomers into a specific way of making cards, not out of arrogance, but rather out of the fact that between the many people who votes on cards during these competitions, the ones with those specific traits tend to get the most votes. And i'll be damned to say it, but they're just helping you reach the finale poll/win the competition. You shouldn't expect everyone to like your unique way of creating cards.
I see a lot of people doesn't seem to like the system, so i propose to all of you to go to the feedback thread that i will link in the bottom of the page, to give any sort of advice on what we could potentially change about the competitions. Some things are harder to implement than others, but know that we Moderators do care about your feedback, and truly want you all to have the best experience while attending these competitions.
