I am fairly new to priest with moderate success rank 10-9 so far.
I keep reading peoples deck lists and the card Velen's Chosen keeps popping up, 2/4 +1 spell power for 3 mana is good but most priest decks have 2-3 spells usually 1 holy nova and 1 smite. it just seems like a 3 drop or 4 drop would be much more beneficial.
Anyone have any thoughts on why Velen's is better than Spider tank or Yeti?
thanks for replying. An interesting view, so you use it for versatility? i do prefer reliability and have most cards with 2 x of each cards. I meant spells that get bonus off of spell power, of course i run a shit load of other spells :p. sometimes i feel like there's moment where i put down a Dark Cultist on an empty board and it doesnt get it's value, velens doesnt help that.
If P2 is Coin+Spider Tank, that's not awesome. However, if P2 is Coin+Velen's Chosen, then the Knife Juggler dies and P is left with a 3/4 minion that can be healed for card draw next turn.
Velen's Chosen is also a powerful early play on Wild Pyromancer.
That's my minion heavy control deck, maybe it's even more of a tempo deck and you do get tempo out of it and Velens Chosen does a huge part in it. It's not up to date though
-1x light of naaru
-1 carne
+1x Cabal
+1x Dr Boom
Gilblin is one of the mvp in this deck. But this deck does perform bad against warrior and handlock, good against aggro and control priest.
Thoughtsteal would probably improve the warrior match up but I started playing Paladin so I did put this deck in the shelve for now.

The big advantage with Velen's Chosen is that it effectively has charge. Consider a start like this:
H1 Webspinner
P1 Northshire Cleric
H2 Knife Juggler
