Am I out of luck? I have very little dust and almost no cards. I don't have Reno or any legendaries besides C'thun so is there a way for me to make a decent freeze mage deck with the majority of the frost spells without high cost cards?
I dont think so. You will need at least some important cards, such us Ice Block or Alextr asza. I think you should go for a cheap shamman deck, or even Zoolock.
Zoolock probably would be a smart choice and yea without Alexstraza and Pyroblast I don't feel like I'll get any wins. I still have the 5 free packs quest for WoG so we'll see what I get outta those.
Craft Alex and double ice block and you're set. Probably you wont hit legend with a budget freeze, but at least you'll get somewhere, maybe even rank 6-ish.
there's a possibility of a "budget" freeze mage without alex or legendaries, you should just unlock the first quearter of the League of explorers to get the Forgoten torches and start by crafting the doomsayers or a doomsayer and a Pyro.. Tbh torches can give you a lot of reach, that's how a lot offreeze mages were pplaying before the expansion,
TBH with how tempo Mage is now i honestly think Freeze mage is the budget mage deck.
I have 490 dust, twilight flamecaller and another demented frostcaller but not sure how I'd fit them into the deck. Any advice on how I could improve it with what I have now would be great. Should I save the dust for Alexstraza or just spend it on pyroblast or something else?
Feels like you do not fully understand deck archetypes.
This link is far-far away from the classic meaning of freeze mage consept. Actually it is midrange or at least tempo (without most crucial tempo cards). I doubt you can pass rank 15 with this one.
Freeze mage is control type of deck. Control decks are expensive. The main idea of freeze mage is to cycle your deck for cards that provide you lethal in 2 turns (first Alex on an oppponent and second burst), while staying alive. For freeze mages key cards are: 2 ice blocks; 2 doomsayers; alexstraza; also useful: talnos; taurissan and antony/pyroblast. So again it is overall expensive. + requires, i would say, "certain play style", which some people, for unkown reason call thinking.
Tempo-midrange decks are more versatile and cheap. The main idea of tempo is to establish early board control and keep it by cheap spells. So assemble cards that fit to this explanasion. Tempo cards are: socceress apprentices; mana wyrms; arcane missiles; frostbolts; fireballs; flamewakers; arcane intellects (actually not really tempo card but you will need to refill your hand) + usually people add 1 or 2 mirror images; azure drakes; ethereal conjurers; these new cult socceress (2 mana +1 SD); faceless summonners; arcane blasts or new arcane flame or something (0-mana spell); for extra damage add Ragnaros and/or Antonidas and Yog-Saron + add tech cards like 1 polymorph and 1 flamestrike.
If you are short in resources and do not want to invest money. I would recommend you to play lots of arenas like in the next 3 months. Gl.
The point of Freeze Mage isn't about freezing the opponent's board, it's killing the hero. Frost Nova / Blizzard + Doomsayer just happens to stall the game so you can get all the kill cards in hand.
Maybe this deck works for you but I don't see it win anything.
