How do you beat Savannah hunter as this deck? I feel like I'm just getting swept by them and can't keep anything on the board. :(
I've won a few games against them when they used Houndmaster to make Savannah Highmane an 8/7 taunt, then I make a copy of it with Faceless Manipulator and silence their Highmane with Keeper of the Grove. Starfall is also great at sweeping the board of Hyenas. Are you playing with 2 Starfalls? I see too many Druid decks that aren't playing the double Starfall...
The new breed of mid-range Hunter decks are definitely more consistent and harder to deal with than the old Traps-&-Hounds decks, but I don't think they're unbeatable. They're slower, so you have time to get to your endgame where your minions outclass theirs, as long as you can sweep the board often enough, keep playing taunts, and make efficient trades wherever possible.
I'm playing with two starfalls. Only thing I changed from the deck was removed one yeti for a sunwalker. I'm not sure if I'm playing it wrong, I try to keep innervates in my hand and a wrath for the crocs/companion and if I have something in the hand already to benefit from innervate I keep that too. I just feel like I'm always playing from behind vs Savannah =/. Do you have any videos of yourself playing the deck?
Do you have any videos of yourself playing the deck?
Nope. To be honest, I'm not sure how to make a video of my matches. I'm kinda noobish with stuff like that... :P If you can tell me how, I'll be happy to try.
Thanks for sharing your deck! I've been having a lot of fun playing it, but I'm really struggling at my current rank (15-13). This traditionally has always been the hardest area for me to get through, once I hit 12 things get a lot smoother. It feels like decks at this rank are so much more varied because it's getting closer to the end of the month, and the more serious players are already at higher ranks. So I'm having a real problem with consistency atm. Win 2, lose 1, win one, etc, and there's no pattern, so I'm not sure how best to tailor my deck. For example, my last three matches have been a weird ass control lock (summoning portal, demolisher, jarraxus), combo Shaman, and a murloc Druid. I've never gotten to rank 5, but from what I hear, the decks you face are a bit more undeviating?
Is there anything you would do to make this deck a bit more, um, "jack of all trades"? Or would that just be completely defeating the purpose? Should I just shelve decks like this until I reach 12-10? It's frustrating because ramp"clicks" with me so much better than aggro/zoo, but I can't help but wonder if I'm barking up the wrong tree at this point.
First night trying the deck was pretty good, went up one rank :)
@blackalmb: In my experience ramp druid works pretty well againt most deck types, not just the ones in the current meta. You just have to remember this is a pretty late game deck.

Yep, I agree with Maels. I think Ramp is already well positioned for fighting in a diverse field. It doesn't rely on any particular aspect of specific decks, it's just designed to be consistent and efficient. I think the most important thing is understanding how the deck you're playing against works, because you need to know what sort of threats and answers they have available and what sort of clock you're on. That's a bit harder against a more diverse field, but over time you'll get to know what makes decks tick and how you should react to them.
I find combo decks the hardest to deal with, especially when you're unfamiliar with them so you don't see the kill coming before it's too late. (Like bouncing Leeroy Jenkins OTK in Miracle Rogue, etc.) The first time it kills you, you aren't prepared for it. But once you learn how they work, it's usually not too hard to play around them.
I really want to try this.. I am running into loads of Zoo/Hunter.. a build which has a good win % vs both should push me up rank 7 towards legendary..
I am playing control warrior atm and Zoo is close fight in which i need to draw well (so in his favor) and the new hunter is actually hard to deal with and i am losing to it
Good luck with it, let me know how you go. :)
I'm glad I hit legend while the Hunter decks were still transitioning from the old Traps-&-Hounds version to the new Beast Tribal versions, because the new Hunters are much more resilient. I'm still a bit skeptical about how prevalent Hunters really are, but I haven't played much ranked since I hit legend. It will be interesting to see how the metagame pans out next season, once the dust settles.
One good thing about the new Beast decks is that River Crocolisk is now playable, so those golden Crocs that we get for levelling up our Druids aren't completely useless anymore. :P
Smashed control warrior/2 x Druids with ease to start a win streak..
Then met Extreme aggro hunter who coined for 2x leper gnome round 1 and just face rushed with charge minions i am at 15hp around round 4-5.. just stupid.. my draw wasn't good.. lack of taunts and Ysera stuck in my hand.. By the time i got a taunt out he pulled black knight.. sigh.. shame cause he was running out of cards
What about Alexstraza being subbed in for Ysera? i have a feeling she could have saved me..
You seem to be looking at the wrong deck. This one uses neither Ysera nor Alexastraza. In the situation you described, it sounds like you weren't going to make it to turn 9 to use Alex, either. This deck works specifically because it reduces the number of high cost minions that rot in your hand while you get whittled away to death.
Also, not having more than 2 minion on the board is quite important. The only time I play a 3rd minion is when i put a big taunt down. That way, UTH isn't hurting as bad.
What about Alexstraza being subbed in for Ysera? i have a feeling she could have saved me..
I think Aggro Hunter is easier to beat than Mid-range Hunter, because it's very linear. But anyway, it sounds like Ysera was the problem for you, and as klimon said, that's exactly why I don't use her. Chillwind Yeti would have been a lot better for you in that situation, especially after both the Unleash the Hounds had been used. I think that the 9-drops are a luxury you can't afford unless the metagame is mostly control decks. And personally, I think Alexstrasza is terrible in this deck. If you're using it for life-gain against a rush deck, it's too late to help you. You spend a whole turn gaining life without affecting the board, and it doesn't have taunt, so next turn the opponent just bashes you back down.
My advice is try to play this "op" hunter on ladder. You will learn weakness of this deck. I played few days with it and right now I almost never loosing to hunter. If you know where is your adventage you can outplay them ez pz ;) Also I recomend 1 healing touch. This card make every hunter realy mad.
Good advice. :) Trying out the enemy's deck is always a good way to get a better feel for how to beat it. I don't like Healing Touch though, since it doesn't affect the board. That's especially true against the Mid-range Hunter decks, because they have a heavier board presence than the old rush versions. I'd prefer to use Abomination or even Mind Control Tech.
In my experience (rank 9 at the moment) any ramp deck works great against zoo. Most of the times I completely stomp on them unless I get a really bad hand. Hunter is a little more tricky, I would add 1 or 2 wild pyros if you're having problems with them and maybe some sort of healing (earthen ring farseer or healing touch). Asuryan's deck works fine against both of them tho.
Thanks a lot! This is really helpful. One more question. Which ramp druid deck is best against hunter and zoo?
I feel like if you want good deck vs both zoo and hunter then Nuba's deck is better. Asuryan's deck is awesome vs control and zoo but vs face hunter its realy bad (or I dont know how to play vs face hunter).
I'd put my money on the deck that runs 2 Starfall, but obviously I'm biased. ;)
I don't really know what you mean by 'Face Hunter'. If you mean a Hunter deck that rushes at your face, then it's not being played much anymore, and it's a fairly easy match anyway, IMO. Just try to keep one taunt minion on the board and nothing else, while you play around the traps. It's still not a great win rate (about 55% for me) but the game plays out the same way every time, which is why I call it 'easy'. Just try to learn the script. It's just a question of whether you draw enough taunts without dying to the traps. If you get low on life while they have a trap, but you have a sturdy wall of taunt to hide behind, it's sometimes better to stop attacking, in case you get killed or maimed by Misdirection. In that situation, just hope that your taunts last long enough to stick Ragnaros the Firelord and let him (along with Faceless Manipulator copies) win without triggering traps.
If you mean the new mid-range Savannah Highmane Hunters, then I don't think 'Face Hunter' is an appropriate name, because they control the board instead of rushing. I'd agree that the matchup there isn't as good as it could be. When I was leveling up, they weren't a big problem yet. It sounds like they're getting much more popular now. Try Abomination. It's great against Unleash the Hounds and the whole menagerie. I'm also considering Baron Geddon. It's better in Warrior decks (likewise Abomination) because it has nicer synergies, but it could be good here for stopping the mid-range Hunters too.

do you have any other suggestion or tips vs the mid range hunter deck that uses the lion and the hound master? I dont have baron and like you said it and abomination don't really have synergy with the deck it seems too much like a stand alone card.
also you have other options like mid range shaman which seems to fair well against zoo and midrange hunter, ramp druid is also very solid if you draw the right cards, but if you have a bad start your going to be in trouble

Sorry to point out an irrelevant typo...but this gave me an awesome image of Keeper of the Grove dancing. Thanks for making me smile haha! :)

I don't use claw, and I have 87% win rate against lock, most of which are zoo (21-3, currently rank 4)
Yeah, I also don't feel the need for Claw. The matchup is already favourable. 68% for me, not quite as impressive as klimon's. :)
I have claw instead of the Ooze as I feel claw is more usefull in the meta and can act as a soft heal. It's only a one of though.

alot of decks in the current meta seem to be struggling with midrange hunter, this mage deck surprisingly beats any form of warlock and hunter and is really effective to ladder with : http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/45379-saturos-new-meta-aggro-mage
also you have other options like mid range shaman which seems to fair well against zoo and midrange hunter, ramp druid is also very solid if you draw the right cards, but if you have a bad start your going to be in trouble
hmm may I ask why 2x ancient of lore 1x ancient of war and not the other way around? isn't the 10 health taunt useful?
