I don't know if this is issue has already been addressed in a post, but here's my experience playing Tavern Brawl today. My opponnent played a Nerub'ar Weblord and my Cenarius was not affected. While I was fine with that since I was still able to play him, it made me wonder why did't Cenarius get the Battlecry pre text but instead Choose One.
Battle Cry is defined loosely as "does something when you play it from hand" and I feel that Cenarius would fall under that category. Has anyone else ever brought this to the communities attention?
I get that the Choose One mechanic is different however without really fact checking this, isn't Cenarius the only Druid card that does affect the battlefield and not just himself?
The simple answer is that it's not a battlecry, just because battlecry isn't written on it. Of course, they could have chosen to word it as "Battlecry: Choose one - " and it would have functioned the same way. I guess they wanted Nerub'ar Weblord to interact differently with different classes. It works really well in a Druid deck for that reason. Same in Rogue decks, because Combo doesn't count as Battlecry either, even though it equally could have been worded as Battlecry.
Edit: Posted the part above before I saw your most recent post. Keeper of the Grove doesn't affect itself at all. Also, plenty of battlecry cards do only affect themselves. So the effect is irrelevant as far as deciding what should be a battlecry.
The card actually needs the phrase "Battlecry" in its rules text box to be considered a minion with battlecry. It doesn't feel intuitive, but "Battlecry" is a keyword, whereas other minions that have enter the battlefield effects, particularly those with choices, don't count as specifically having Battlecry.

None of the choose one cards (all druid) count as battlecry, they are all when played but are a different ability.

Not just Cenarius, loads of Druid minions. Keeper of the Grove etc.

That makes a lot of sense, It would be interesting if they changed the text though. But well stated nonetheless.

Balancing busted cards version 1.0.
nope
Crowd Favorite would be a better card if it triggered from Choose One and Combo minions.
