Good times with discard.
Although I hated getting Queen Succ as a my first legendary out of Frozen Throne, 7/6 lifesteal isnt bad..toss a +3 potion on it. The heal is real!
Game 21 vs Overload Shaman: Win
Starting Hand: Quest, Zavas, Succubus, Dinomancer
Discarded: Zavas, Dino, Nzoth,
Quest Completed:
My final HP: 18+5
Opponent final HP: 12 concede
Notes: Discarded only 1 card between both felhounds, which I wasn't sure about. I played out zavas a little early at 4/4 because I was afraid of the damage output and quick board capability of OL shaman. T9 Twisting Nether -> T10 Guldan turned the game around for me.
Game 22 vs Bubble Pally: Win
Starting Hand: Quest, Tiny Knight, Succubus, Dinomancer
Discarded: Doomguard, Dinomancer,
Quest Completed: No
My final HP: 22
Opponent final HP: 14
Notes: Dinomancer on board having discarded Doomguard and the other Dino feels good. Also holding defile in hand afforded me some feeling of safety. Dude left after turn 7 defile board clear.
Game 23 vs Hunter: Loss
Starting Hand: Quest, Soulfire, Defile, Felhound
Discarded: Felhound, Defile, Fist,
Quest Completed: No
My final HP: 0
Opponent final HP: 26
Notes: Died on turn 7. Still not enough removal to stop this level of aggro.
Game 24 vs Jaina Control Mage: Win
Starting Hand: Quest, Soulfire, Soulfire, Tiny Knight, Coin
Discarded: SW Golem, Jaraxus, Fist, Nzoth, Defile, Fist, Felhound
Quest Completed: Turn 8, Portal turn 9,
My final HP: 5
Opponent final HP: 0
Notes: Doom for 5 turn 10, Ice block with me at 2hp, guldan as last card in the deck, any damage from hand, or second ice block and he would have had me
Game 25 vs Elemental Shaman: Win
Starting Hand: Quest, Dino, Defile, Soulfire
Discarded: Nzoth, Defile, Dino, SW Golem, Zavas, SW Golem
Quest Completed: Turn 9, Portal turn 9
My final HP: 8+3
Opponent final HP: 14 concede
Notes: Jaraxus came out, Guldan came out, Got so much value from the portal this game that he eventually ran out of gas and conceded
Game 26 vs Secret Mage: Loss
Starting Hand: Quest, Doomguard, Felhound, Soulfire
Discarded: Felhound, Dino, Doomguard, Doom,
Quest Completed: Nope
My final HP: 0
Opponent final HP: 30
Notes: Dead turn 7 to direct damage. Secret mage is pretty untouchable since you're at the mercy of their board control
Game 27 vs Hunter:
Starting Hand: Quest, SW Golem, Soulfire, Tiny Knight
Discarded: Succubus, Felhound, Zavas, Defile, Fist
Quest Completed: Turn 11, Portal turn 11
My final HP: 0
Opponent final HP: 7
Notes: Played zavas at 4/4 to keep the heat off me. Portal came out eventually, and he was out of gas, lifesteal on the board down to 2hp. Unleash the hounds killed me. Closest game against hunter to date.
Havent really played much this week but took time to actually read all your posts tonight. WOW at that you have lost almost every shaman match. Hunter can be pretty steamroll so if you dont get playable discards..I can see how you could lose the facerace. Don't think i ever lost to Pal. In my most of my games I completed quest but usually didnt play it because I'd lose tempo/they are close to dead. I honestly think lock has worst quest but i got it out of a pack and already had a discard deck. The only plus to it is that you will still have two 3/2s after a nether/doom of whatever else clear BUT warp takes a space on the board and weakens your Bloodreaver summoning. I'm sure ive had a couple games where i just had too expensive of hand and got aggroed but losing a match against a priest because my bloodreaver summon was 6 3/2 imps instead of my doomguards or felhounds was the only game i had that annoyed the hell out of me. Majority of my games I had hands where I had an idea of what my first three plays would be so maybe I've been lucky. Discard is honestly the biggest gamble in this game. If you wanted to make this deck a little more controlly id probably run a hellfire instead of 2nd defile. I've never actually won because of a NZoth play but have won many from bloodfury potion SMOrcing(targets usually being imp, doomguard, or Queen). What are your feelings about Queen? I can't lie, she has brought me from half hp to full multiple games. Still a silly card to me.
I played a few games today and totally shit on people. Of the four games I played I won 2 of them by turn 6. So while I think aoe defile is a great addition, I'm kind of shocked you have not even 50% wr with this deck. It's nasty as fuck lol. But it look like you had more luck with the deck after adding more control. Let me know if you make more changes that work better for you. Good luck in ladder.
Yessur!!! I am a strict warlock player, and I want so badly for the discard mechanic to work. Regarding queen, I don't think she is a bad addition to the deck. If nothing else she draws out removal, and at best she can be a fantastic method to stabilize in the midgame. I wish she were a demon, but alas.
Defile did seem to serve well when I added it in, but like you said, I think one could be replaced with a hellfire. It doesn't really serve in the late stages of the game without a spellpower +1 like tainted zealot or something like that.
I hope you didn't take my comments as pure criticism. I will be using this deck as a basis for a discard quest deck in the new expansion, as it looks like it will have a little additional support. I really appreciate you putting this together, and didn't mean to be so rude in my assessment.
You gave your actual experience with details so there definitely wasn't anything wrong with what you said. I might have been annoyed if you didnt add details just because even though I generally think discard mechanic is really super risky with only early game rewards(which is why I play it like a pirate warrior lol), I've had a lot of success with it. So I plain outright wouldn't believe you had 35% wr. There's like 2 decks that you will probably lose to 80% of time(each I haven't fought yet but from imagination aggro druid and fatigue warrior; former because like you noticed it doesnt have early board clear and im likely to just soulfire face and the latter because armoring up/brawling vs discard is honestly just a hard strategy counter). I've been playing DR priest in ladder and meatwagon warlock in casual but ill probably update or create new discard after K&C.
Cataclysm is f***ing stupid. If you play imp then cat, imp activates card draw before being destroyed. I just deleted the deck. Easiest quest completion ever. Completely dumb af. Discard has totally lost my interest. On to taunt and drlock.
20 games, 13 losses, 7 wins = 35% winrate....
I guess what I'm trying to say is, even at rank 15 there is no fucking way this deck maintains 80% like you have in the title. There are many blind spots in this setup, and running deathwing in addition to all the individual discard, and doom, and twisting nether puts you at a severe disadvantage. The first change I am going to make to this deck is to add in two defiles. That would have bought me so much time in agro matchups against evolve shaman and paladin decks that I likely could have turned those games around with that one card.
So...
-Deathwing +Defile
-Bloodfury Potion +Defile
I will give it another 10 games with that change alone and see what happens.
I like that you added game details. I'll look at it more after work today and maybe even play the deck more. In majority of my games I've SMOrced with this deck, not really controlled. Defile is a super sick card though. Auto-include in every other Lock deck i have.
