In the supposedly control meta where every class gets some tools for healing and armoring up an exodia mage that does infinite dmg should be pretty good I say.
This deck's biggest weakness was always dmg from hand like pirate warrior's buffed weapons or hunter's hero power and Kill Command. With the addition of:
a) Ghastly Conjurer that not only grants you a spell towards your quest but also slows down the board and gives you a nice body to trade with
and
b) controversial Coldwraith which can be used to draw a card after playing Frost Nova or Blizzard and traded into enemy minon the next turn
I think the deck looks stronger than ever!
Feel free to leave a comment, I'd love to discuss about the deck.
-if coldwraith is underperforming u can swap it to coldlight oracle
I do not understand why this deck has so many views and good rating, so I have some questions.
1st of all there is no good explanation why you don't run Arcanologist. The first card they should nerf from Un'Goro. Stats are very fine, draws you a secret which helps you survive, can fill your turn 3 and the most important - your deck has less cards after playing her, so the chance to draw exodia pieces increases. Without Arcanologist you don't have a card that can contest the board against Murloc Paladin, Pirate Warrior or Burst/Secret Mage. What do you coin turn 1st? Why would you like to remove it from deck?
Coldwraith as you noticed is controversial. Because it's not a good card in exodia mage. Most of the time you shouldn't care if your enemy draws or not. That's why Coldlight Oracle is more than necessery. Two cards instead of one, and there is no condition. When you freeze enemy board you want to use this turn as good as you can. Frost Nova + Doomsayer is already 5 mana. Blizzard is 6. In current meta you have the chance to make your enemies overdraw with Coldlight Oracle and it's the satisfying part. When you play Coldwraith the satisfying part is when you are able to draw a card.
I run Bloodmage Thalnos instead of Loot Hoarder but i guess it's just the budget version, right?
Many people craft The Lich King. There is one card from his end of turn effect which makes you unhappy. Death Grip. Smart players wait untill you are close to the exodia and steal your Sorcerer's Apprentice. Here comes Simulacrum. Not necessery but worth consideration.
Your cards can make 8 spells that did not start in this deck (not counting coin). So basicly you have to draw whole deck before you win but you have no Coldlight Oracle and no Arcanologist. How do you climb with this?
Maybe I'm wrong, so I would love to hear your arguments. Sorry for the harsh tone but over 30k people watched this deck and in my opinion they might be disappointed when they craft it.
Here is my version - Exodia Mage has to be played perfectly to win the game. All the time you have to count. Can't afford to play freezes whenever you want to. One mistake can lose you a game. That's why it is so important to have right cards.
Now realised that VenoMariX has similar thoughts about this deck and you haven't responded to him.
How do you go about beating a class that copies your Ice Block, or another mage with Ice Block?
So no strategy? Just up to RNJesus?
I run 2 Arcanologist since they also draw a card but you know what you get! Reasons why Coldwraith isn't good is because:
1) You need a freeze to draw a card, you always want to draw a card because its very important in this deck! Using a freeze combo'ed with this card is very hard to pull off, I want to use Frost Nova combined with Doomsayer so it gets removed anyways and costs too much!
2) If you can't play this card, it's a dead card in your hand and maybe doesn't allow you to open Cabalist's Tome because your hand is too full!
3) Arcanologist can be played early on or whenever you want! It can save you because it draws an Ice Block just to buy you that extra turn!
4) It's stats don't effect the board anymore when combo'ed since it cost a lot of mana to play it and a spell and you only run one Frostbolt which is the only card it has synergy with!
Just my overall reasons why I think running double Arcanologist is better! Ghastly Conjurer is worth playing in this deck since it gives you a much needed spell and Mirror Image is a very good anti-aggro spell or could stop a lot of burst damage! I also run Bloodmage Thalnos instead of Loot Hoarder since that extra spell damage could be very usefull for Blizzard, a very good substitution if you have him!
This deck is very satisfying to play but some games take a lot of time but that's the only downside for me! Thanks for the decklist and goodluck on the ladder ;)

The Arcane giant version is so much worse since taunts and armor can counter it pretty well
I agree the giants are more fun
Currently my stats are 3-1 (yea, I know, it's not mutch... but I wanted to say something :))
Every match up it was a fatigue game, because the keycards were the last 3-4 cards.... Bad luck, like always. But at the end I won the most matches... The only lost I had was a other exodia mage and he got the "exodia"-combo before me and killed me...
My hands are pretty mutch full all game long, so I wouldn't chance something... Enough boardclear / freezes for aggro und for lategame-minions. So you can survive pretty long and that the reasion why I love this deck.
Good Idea so... Will try it more, if I have time for that!
Hi again Hakkene,
Simulacrum can be used as a secondary way to get the combo and it adds 1 counter to the quest :
when u are near the final exodia combo, u copy a sorcerer apprentice (for 2 or less depending on their number) then u summon it for 2.
So depending on your meta and on the "luck" u have with the combo, it can be a cool addition.
Another key card can be Alexstrasza, when the opponent is going to proc your ice block. (granted you haven't the combo yet and need some time). Also, in some rare cases, you can try to work on a partial exodia combo with this dragon on the turn before (cast on opponent against some decks).
Also against face decks you can add 1 or 2 volcanic potions.
I've found that discovering a simulacrum from a primordial glyph can be very usefull but including one in your deck removes card draw or board freeze! Alexstrasza is also not that amazing since you have enough ways to deal with the board and double ice block and ice barrier should give you enough time to survive until your combo!
So I tried this list except: -2 Coldwraith / +2 Arcanologist as it essentially functioned the same by getting a card out of your deck, expect the Arcanologist would be guaranteed draw and that draw would be a secret.
However; I have found that sometimes you just want a regular cantrip to cycle later after you have the secrets out, so I think a split or finding room for both Arcanologist and Coldwraith is where it wants to be. Other than that, the deck has been pretty sweet and it takes advantage of a lot of hyped control decks currently.
Hello and thanks for your updated Exodia deck.
I think though that you need 2 cabalist tomes and Arfus in this deck.
Cya in game !
Dhorain
After some testing I agree on Arfus , not so good.
But you really need more source of "external" spells (i mean even with a second cabalist tome).
Maybe one more babbling book, not sure.
Or as suggested above a burgly bully. (even if i'm not sure u will have room for it in the curve, since 5 mana is when u cast frost nova +
doomsayer combo or cabalist tome or secret + ping ...)
KILL CONTROL DECKS 4Head WITH THE REAL EXODIA 4Head
Hahahahaha yeah I mean like I said I think I drew bad most of the games I lost but Idk against heavier control it's nice :D !
At 14:05 couldn't you just play the frostbolt and the quest without shattering the minion? It was enough to complete it and you could have done it with antonidas on board.
Uhm not really sure I don't know if I really know what you're asking sorry XD !
having only 6 cards that produce new spells seems low to me. I'm gonna try it with -1 arcane intellect -1 coldwraith and +1 babbling book and +arfus to help control the board
edit: arfus is terrible 25% of the time
One Cabalist's Tome feels weak. Even with your other spell generators, chances are you will NEED that spell just to finish the quest.
Been trying to figure out if Coldwraith is gonna be worth running in this. I feel like it will hardly ever have it's battlecry trigger for the draw, but a 3/4 on curve is decent so could be good just for tempo.
