Hi,
I'm Danny and is a regular Legend player, hitting Legend every season. With the rise and dominance of Mid range Shaman, I wanted to create a deck to counter it instead of joining the dark side. Shaman doesn't have much counters and even freeze mage is only 5% favored against it. To counter Shaman, you really have to tech in cards against them. I wanted to create a deck that's good against shaman and still holds a good to fair win rate against other decks. I have played around with other classes but finalize on C'thun warrior with two Tech cards, Revenge and Baron Geddon. There's another tech card worth considering which is Harrison Jones but I can talk more about it later.
My stats were 18-3 hitting Legend with two losses where one game was due to unlucky draws and another to unlucky Rng. I believe i should've won those two games, leading to an even higher win rate. I have replays for all my games so I'll try to post some or all later if there's enough interest.
I entered Legend at rank 381 as shown below.

Use and time your board clears carefully as Shamans can refill the board the next turn very easily. I also used my health as a resource as Shamans don't have the burst they used to.
Replays at Legend Rank
1) Against Maly Druid - https://hsreplay.net/replay/s5PP6sRnSgouQAgV2nQEML
- He did not know what to do against me and forced to concede.
2) Against Shaman - uploaded Oct. 22 - https://hsreplay.net/replay/rkVZGtHnBVPzA9MvJitkUS
3) Against Dragon Priest - https://hsreplay.net/replay/j4zWceeBqhPRrYXdMdFc8E
4) Control Priest - https://hsreplay.net/replay/39t9GXAQGAY5kBxXKoiipY
- Toughest match so far in Legend. Not knowing what type of cards he's running, and his sylvannas surviving two brawls gave little hope in winning. Watch and analyze the plays in the last 15 turns. I recommend pausing before I make my plays and see if you'll do the same. Timing when to play the cards was very critical here.
5) Tempo Mage - Surviving 6 fireballs and more
6) Lost to Maly Druid but look at his start with innervate and ramp.
7) Lost to Totemic Might Shaman - Apparently revenge and baron geddon are not good against 4 health totems.
8) Shaman
9) More Shaman - Where playing aggressive shaman doesn't pay off.

8) Vs. Fibonacci Part 1------------- Part 2
Strategy and Mulligan
Shaman -
A) Fiery War Axe
B) Disciple of C'thun, Ravaging Ghoul. Keep 1 without the coin. Both if you have the coin or have War Axe.
C) Keep Slam if you have any of the above cards.
With these cards, you should be able to challenge any early game cards shaman throws at you.
Control early threats from Shaman and prevent them from snowballing. Do not waste premium removals (Shield slam & Exe) on weak minions unless it provides a huge tempo swing. I usually use shield slam & Execute only on thing from belows, fire elementals, or thunderbluffs. Thing from below and Fire ele can be dealt without premium removals since they have 5 health BUT Thunderbluff is more difficult. I usually save one premium removal in hand for thunderbluff. Use your AOE and boar clears wisely. Don't use them on 3 or 4 minions/totems that are not causing much threat. If you are not close to dying, taking 4-5 damage from their minions/totems is fine. Bait out their big guys.
The faster(aggressive) they play, the better my odds in winning because they play into the board clears. They are more dangerous when they slow play and into fatigue.
Against aggro - Control their early flood of minions with removal and aoes. They will run out of resources and you win.
Against control- play the fatigue war, armor up and outlast outlast them. Be conservative with your C'thun against priest/warrior. Usually, don't play it unless you can lethal them or you need to prevent their lethal on board.
Against CW - Play the fatigue game. don't draw cards. save harrison for gorehowl only. Sometimes i don't even play harrison to minimize the one draw. Play C'thun for final blow (when both players are in fatigue and you're c'thun + their next fatigue damage will kill them).
Difficult Match ups
Midrange Hunter and Control Warrior.
Against Control Warrior, you will need to sub in Harrison for their gorehowl and maybe doomcaller. This will make the deck weak against other archetypes (shamans) so I don't recommend it unless you are facing a lot of warrior.
Midrange Hunter has always been a bad match up for Control warriors. At least there's only one call of the wild these days.
Substitutions
Revenge or Barron Geddon can be subbed by Harrison Jones
If you have questions/comments, write it below and I'll try to answer them.
With enough likes or +
- I'll create a more thorough discussion about playing the deck and against classes.
- Post more replays
- Discussion about tech cards
- Video game play or discussion
Also, as you noticed, this is not a super unique deck list as C'Thun warrior have been around.
Thanks for stopping by.

Grats for legend!
Btw, I don't see any druids from your [Win/Loss] list :O is that normal?
Thanks. I didn't face one on my road to legend with this deck. but prior to this deck, I've faced a few while playing my other decks.
Yesterday, I faced one at Legend rank and posted the replay above. check it out.
Yeah, I built this deck now, and after 3 games my first impression is : It works really well! I'm 1-0 vs Hunter & Shaman and lost to a Tempo Mage.
I like the brann-less idea since hes quite situational and doesn't work as a stand-alone minion.
http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/hearthstonescrcv2igxm47q.png <= my game vs shaman
+1 for me
edit: 2:0 vs shaman. key is: use your AOE's wisely! keep the board clear all the time
>Make this deck
>First game shaman (rank 5)
>Lose
And I'm an experienced ctrl warr
I also lost my first game against shaman with his deck. It was a close one, since then I'm 5-0 against shaman, 2-0 against discardlock and 2-0 against hunters. Having trouble with control decks but I think theh can be beat. This is a solid deck give it a few matches. Be greedy
Well, you shouldn't judge a deck after 1 game though, if you're that experienced.
Play a few more games to get the feel of it. I don't think anyone can expect to be an expert at a new deck even if they are experienced with the class.
Like woeden said, be greedy... with your board clears. 4 totems or small minions aren't always worth a brawl.
I think the worst match ups for this deck are mid range hunter (with highmanes and call) and control warrior with gorehowl. Other control decks, you can win by fatigue.
"
Make this deck
>First game shaman (rank 5)
>Lose
And I'm an experienced ctrl warr"
you dont make a post after 1 game Rome wasnt built in 1 day :D
Great deck! Thanks for sharing
Thanks.
What about Brann? I think to replace one Acolyte
I don't think he's needed in this meta. You don't really have time to do brann combos against shamans. It was more useful back then when there was a control meta and you brann doomcaller. I like acolyte for card draw. Shaman doesn't have a lot of 3 attack minions in the early game and might be forced to use a spell or another resource to deal with acolyte.
Seems like a cool deck, what about jones?
It's not needed against Shaman but it's useful against Control warrior.
Sorry mate, this Deck doesn't work out well. All Shamans crushed me, because they are way to fast, or this deck is way to slow.
Hi. Control decks are meant to be slow. It is not suppose to keep pace with Shaman. With four board clears, you need to time it well and you'll be able to win. Don't waste brawls on 3 or 4 small minions/totems. Wait for some value. In one of my replays, I waited until they play a fire elemental before using my brawl while sacrificing my health for one turn. Those are the plays you have to think about. baiting out their cards and big minions before using your AOEs. There's also other strategies i've used such as baiting their hex on mediocre minions. Check out my 6 replays. :)
The irony about your comment is that the faster shaman plays, the better my chances are to win. It's when they play slow, that its difficult for control warrior.
alright, ill study your replays and try it again
Reporting from the front
I better stop playing this Deck
Hi, I replied to the above poster with some tips against Shaman. Please read above and I'll address your other questions here. :)
Against Shaman - Always mulligan for Fiery War Axe. If you don't have it, I'll keep a 3 drop such as disciple of c'thun or ravaging ghoul. Keep slam if you have disciple or ravaging ghoul in your starting hand.
Revenge is mostly a dead card until you have 12 or below health. Having two clogs up your hand and 1 damage Aoe, doesn't do much without a body attached to it. Baron geddon is guarantees 2 damage Aoe, which clears all basic totems and usually more if they have damage minions. It also has a threatening body where they have to hex or spend resources to clear.
I'll quote from above. "The irony about your comment is that the faster shaman plays, the better my chances are to win. It's when they play slow, that its difficult for control warrior. "
haha even higher winrate i think you mean 100% :)
is it worth crafting baron geddon for this deck?
i disenchanted him long time ago :(
