10x legend player here who got very bored with meta and try-harding to get to legend.
I took the challenge of getting to legend with only shaman this season. I was stuck in rank 2 for a long time and fell from rank 1 to 4 many times. I played every single shaman deck you can imagine. Midrange, Violet Teacher, Mech, Yolo/Burst, Ancestral Healing(Black Knight/Injured Blademaster combo), Malygos, Murloc shaman and in the end the one with the highest (71%) win rate was a modified version of Hotform's Bloodlust Shaman. The main differences are that I swapped out the feral spirit's for deathlords. In my opinion, feral spirits are straight up garbage right now. Simply way outdated and just garbage taunts even though people still swear by it. Feral spirits are only good good against Control Warrior/Druid matchups and it's not worth having it in your deck for just those matchups.
Against eboladin, feral spirits get consecrated next turn or die to their board while reducing your tempo/mana next turn. Simply garbage.
Feral spirits also give more fuel to hunter's knife juggler+unleash combo. Or just die to their board/one bow charge, etc. It literally is not worth it. In fact Blizzard should remove overload all together to make it even viable for Shaman. However let's save that discussion for another story.
This deck gets really strong mid-game, so it is important to stop early aggression with two deathlords. If RNG does not love you, always mulligan for flametongue, haunted creeper, zombie chow so that you can start controlling the board. ((((Only applies to aggro))))
Sometimes against matchup's like control priest or control warrior, you do not want to mulligan for deathlords obviously or even if you have it in your hand, don't play it unless you are sure they don't have removal. As sometimes it will end your game right there if you don't have a hex to follow up their removal.
Okay as promised here is the Mulligan guide:
vs Aggro(Paladin/Hunter) : Deathlord, Deathlord, Deathlord, and another Deathlord.
Haunted Creeper, Flametongue, Zombie Chow, 1 Lightning Storm, Earth Shock, Rockbiter Weapon.Nerubian Egg is also good if you have either flametongue or rockbiter to help kill their minion.
vs Mage(Tempo/Mech) : Zombie Chow(Don't play it turn 1, save it for mirror entity), Haunted Creeper, Flametongue Totem, Rockbiter Weapon, Nerubian Egg. Early game/board control is very important in this matchup.
vs Warrior(Patron/Control): Piloted Shredder.Nerubian Egg, Haunted Creeper,Flametongue Totem. If you are facing lots of warrior, and less aggro on ladder, you can swap out a zombie chow for another Piloted Shredder. If you end up being unlucky and getting Deathlord in your hand, play it only when you have hex to follow up whatever comes out against Control Warrior. If Patron, you can yolo it early game and get one of their combo cards to remove instead of having deathlord up turn 8.
vs Priest : Piloted Shredder, Hex, Flametongue totem, Neurbian Egg, Crackle, Mana Tide Totem. A lot of priest lately have been playing Deathlords. This already is a hard matchup and deathlord is hard to remove for shamans. It feels bad hexing a deathlord but I found it good to use it early instead of letting them control the board. Some priests are not minion heavy early game and you can take advantage of that with mana tide. And whatever you do, do not mulligan for a deathlord obviously. Obviously if you end up playing deathlord, try to keep deathlord's attack 4 with flametongue next to him to avoid it getting dealt with and even hinder their plays.
vs Rogue: Piloted Shredder, Haunted Creeper, Nerubian Egg, Flametongue Totem, Deathlord.
You want sticky minions against this matchup. Try to bait them to waste their blade flurry early so that once two are gone, you can go all in on the board. Don't over-commit your board unless their flurries are gone/no cards in hand. You can also mulligan for a mana tide and have them waste removal on it, if that is the game you want to play against this matchup. Deathlord is not a big factor if it gets killed early game since they have to use a lot of removal and at worst a Loatheb/Piloted Shredder pops out.
vs Warlock(Handlock/Zoo) : I tend to mulligan as if it is zoo, but the card that counters both decks tends to be Earth Shock for Drake/Nerubian Egg value. Haunted Creeper, Nerubian Egg, Flametongue Totem, Piloted Shredder, Rockbiter Weapon, Lightning Storm.
vs Shaman(Mech/Mid-Range) : DEATHLORDS. Most opponents don't expect this and it is amazing as a totem killer, early board control if they don't hex it. Neurbian Egg, Flametongue Totem, Haunted Creeper, Rockbiter Weapon, and ZOMBIE CHOW. And possibly Lightning Storm.
vs Druid(Ramp) : Piloted Shredder, Haunted Creeper, Flametongue Totem, Nerubian Egg.
Optional Cards: Swap in Zombie Chow for another Piloted Shredder if you need more pressure, and facing less aggro. Loatheb, Argent Squire, Abusive Sergeant, Healbot if when your rushing aggro, that extra 8 heal would have won you the game and you are unlucky and cant draw your zombie chow, 2 deathlords, lightning storms(or facing lots of Freeze mage). If you guys have any other things to add, please comment below. Always open to making it better.
Hardest Matchup: Priest, but thankfully there is not many priests on ladder at the moment. 60% of the priests I face on ladder, tended to have deathlord on turn 3 and if you don't have a hex in your hand or board to kill it, they tend to start to take huge control. Not only that but shadow word pain for our deathlords, or even stealing our deathlord with Cabal/Thoughtsteal sucks.

P.S. Ever since sharing this decklist with Hotform on stream and posting it on Hearthpwn : Hotform, JustSaiyan, and Gaara have added double deathlords to their Shaman list. =] If you find anymore streamers adopting double deathlords let me know!
Hey Dark, I can't seem to find the shaman deck on your profile. Could you link it?
Yep np...You will find this better
LOLOLOL MANNN You must be one of those guys that needs to drive a huge gigantic truck because you are lacking in other departments. I'm only gonna make one reply to you, and one only. Not gonna waste any other time then that.
Starting off you already come off as super negative as if I am attacking you?? I simply shared to a cool community what I got to legend with after trying various Shaman decks and honestly could care less about the size of my e-penis hence I don't link my twitch or any of my social media. I am here not for fame, just to share because I really like seeing people's creativity.
I actually think your deck looks Quite Fun and would have gladly enjoyed testing it out. Maybe you should get to legend with it and perk some more interest!
On the other hand, as stated I got bored of meta, wanted to take the worst class in meta to legend and was able to reach it with this decklist. I faced your "3 nightmares" face hunter, patron warrior, aggro warlock many many times on ladder and they are not even that hard of a matchup.
1. Again your argument is flawed because most face hunters on high ranked(legend-5) don't play hunter's mark, they run ironbeak owl to get through taunts. Mid-range Hunter on the other hand does run Hunter's Mark and if you are smart enough, you play around it once you realize they are mid-range, or have a hex to follow up if Sylvannas comes out.
2. I've already written on mulligan guide that you want to be careful against warrior/priest with deathlord. If you can't read, I'm sorry. Feral Spirits overload you for 2 mana and severely drops your tempo early game which is a huge drawback and easily get cleared the following turn. You can "combo" just as well with a flametongue next to Deathlord. They don't make a difference. In fact I shared my decklist with Hotform, and now he is also running double deathlords as well.
3. I am never rushing when I am playing this list. That may be why your whole argument is so flawed. I aim to try to control the board early game and the entire game. Thalnos helps cycle and having spellpower when you need it, instead of rolling a dice for 25% chance to clear patron board. Sometimes you don't draw your Azure Drakes, or sometimes you need to clear the entire board turn 5 and thalnos & lightning storm is great for that.
4. Once again, or a millionth time I am not an aggro deck. it is more mid-range. As I have said before if you are facing less aggro, you swap out zombie chow for another shredder. If you are facing a lot of aggro and tempo mages you keep 2. Please stop making me repeat myself.
5. As Bny has stated, "BGH have become a lot rarer these days due to so many running decks without BGH targets. But even if they BGH your boom you still have value out of it because it's unlikely they can deal with dr. boom and your massive board on the same turn. And this deck is all about board control so it's actually BETTER in most cases that they go for Dr. boom over clearing all your low hp minions. Also, needless to say, the bombs synergize with bloodlust which is 6 more damage next turn if you have it. "
6. FOR A MILLIONTH TIME, I AM NOT AGGRO LOL. HEX is amazing. I am not gonna even waste my time arguing you about this since I don't want to argue that 1+1=3.
Again, you seem to have a deck that looks fun to play with in casual. Just please read more before you spout because I don't want to argue with you when you clearly think I am aggro....when I am actually more mid-range/control.....
why wouldnt you explain your deck well. you already counter argued this one. if you just put the same effort in yours it will be fine.
also, this deck got upvotes because it is exploring a new idea (deathlord). deathlord isnt the best, sure, but it is a new idea. had it been the best actually it wouldnt have been till now that we are exploring it. all the optimal decks have been chewed and digested. now we are looking at the sub optimal ones and upvoting them
New cards are coming soon. you can see the revealed cards and build a new idea and post it before everyone else. only then will you make an FULLY OPTIMAL deck and get recognized. with current cards, i think it is too late for fully optimal decks. every fully optimal deck seems to be a repost
Would neptulon be a good replacement for any cards in this deck? Particularly thalnos since i dont have it
Honestly if need you more pressure late-game, you can add a Neutpulon. If you don't have a thalnos, don't worry about kobold or loot hoarder since it's basically the versatility of those 2 options that are most important. Add whatever you feel is lacking the most against matchups you are facing. Heck, Neptulon might be a great card against more control!
very fun and nice deck i'm in 7-1 with it :)
Thanks for sharing it mate!
I'd consider -1 azure for thalnos
This deck is awful against hunter.
Lol what a dumbass. This deck was designed AGAINST hunter.
lol =]
Hey thats a very nice deck, but i was wondering who can i swap Bloodmage Thalnos with? Is it Cobold for +1 spell damage or Loot Hoarder for card draw?
I think cycling is more important. Loot hoard should do the trick.
Honestly it's both. The spellpower when you need it and the cycle, when you have nothing decent in your hand. However you can just swap it out for whatever you feel like you are lacking in against other matchups. If you need more healing, add a healbot, if you want more pressure add a piloted shredder/loatheb.
I had pretty decent success with this deck. Two class I had troubles with are Handlock, and paladin. Got lucky against a few handlocks when I rushed face hard and they had low HP before they got their 8/8 taunt walls up but thankfully i was able to crackle/fire elemental them down. As for paladins I only faced them twice so far and got unlucky with lightning storm draws, so they might not be as bad if you get a lightning storm or 2, probably worth keeping one in hand at start instead of Mulligan it.
Mulligan guide pls!
Done my friend, sorry for taking so long
This a great deck!
Its the kind of out of the box thinking that shaman need!
Follow the Mulligan as much as you can,in general I have problems with priests ( as all shaman do) but using the guide I beat the next 3 priests I faced.
Thanks volatility for this deck!
I am currently 13-2 with this deck, had some trouble against handlock who had all the right answers and an eboladin who managed to squeeze out lethal the turn before I did. All in all unless my opponent had the perfect card answers this deck just steamrolled over them. Unlike DarkArchon's shaman rush this deck is best played as a mid-range/control i feel, even beating out druid and warrior. I will test both and post results. Good job both of you with your decks, cheap to make yet very effective and not cancerous.
Thx for the nice response. I know i don't word things well and i come off as a dick but i do believe mine is more optimized and the other deck is not/mislabeled as a rush deck. You still try to control the board with this deck by getting way better deals with your trades. You gather tokens that way by just straight up out valuing the opponent. My 2 cents is Bloodmage Thalnos doesn't serve enough purpose since getting SP isn't normally that hard anyway, running 2 zombie chows is too counter productive and the 2 deathlords is way too punishing with to many counters. Also adding that Dr.Boom isnt the greatest either as it's the only minion with +7 attack which just serves to give their BGH value. Not running Knife Jugglers/Dire Wolves is a mistake as well, you normally get very solid value from them, especially in a token/totem deck. There is a reason why they are in 90% of aggro/rush decks.
