Hi
As a control only player I've never felt so strong in the ladder as now. I reached legend on the 7th with this deck and it's the first time I do that so quickly. The recent nerfs and buffs have not really modified the strength of the deck.
In legend I didn’t play much, made experiments and fell at 10000th rank then 3 days ago I used my deck again and climbed to 3500.
The unusual card in the deck is of course Storm Giant. It's there because it combines very well with Loken, Ignis and Forge of wills. Also a turn 4 Molten giant will not win you the game but your opponent will generally waste very useful resources to kill it.
Wing Welding is also key against aggros and big board decks. You should not hesitate to discard a major card when you're losing control of the board, even Sargeras in some cases.
For me only card that can probably be replaced by something better is Queen Azshara. I wouldn’t change anything else.
In ETC : Coroner (for Aggros), Theotar (for Combos) and Lord Jaraxxus (for Controls).
I don't really feel I need any disrupt card to win at the moment.
Win conditions:
1) Quick win with forge of wills. Most games I mulligan for forge of wills, anubisath and storm giant (with coin) to try it. If you have 2 forge of wills and anubisath you can win early.
But the most powerful opening is with coin + forge of wills + storm giant. Turn 1 : coin, forge. Turn 2 : forge. Turn 3 : forge of wills. Turn 4 : you have two 8/8 minions that can attack.
2) Opponent resources exhaustion. Only control priest can beat you at this game and only if they copy symphony. I won most times even if they play sargeras.
The nemesis of this deck is mage. You have 4 ways to beat mage but none is easy so will will lose most of the time : quick win, discard Shiv with Symphony, steal Shiv with Theotar, build huge armor with Ignis + armor weapon.
Mulligan : depending of the opponent there are many cards you may want to keep. Armor vendor against hunter, defile against paladin, forge + anubisath + molten giant against everyone.
Hi! I enjoy playing this deck in current meta. Have you updated the deck since then? I would very much appreciate if you share the upd deck of Ctrl warlock.
Hi, cool refresh!
I reached legend every month except December with control warlock.
Since there is at least one intererested person, I will publish my current version :)
Here is the updated deck : https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1438933-forge-control-warlock
this deck is completely useless vs smorc decks. kills you turn 4 without you being able to do anything
Love this deck. Thanks for posting. Quick climb up ladder and super fun to play. Made a couple of minor tweaks consistent with previous comments. Replaced Lord Jaraxxus with Steamcleaner in ETC to deal with Symphony of Sins and Plague DK. Replaced Queen Azshara with Smothering Starfish.
Really, Jaraxxus is in the deck only for control priest. Most times they will copy Sargeras and Jaraxxus is there to make a difference.
I don't think Steamcleaner is needed because I almost always win against plague DK and other warlocks.
You already have Prince renathal... it's a very good tech card against plague DK.
Yeah, why not. The thing is Theotar is completely useless against aggro while Azshara can save the game with a lucky colossal minion or draw.
And I don't think there is any game that requires Rivendare to win :)
A good replacement for Azshara is starfish : great against paladin, rogue, druid and you can also use it for a surprise attack with Sargeras and Anubisath!
One starfish in the deck and another in ETC is very good. I had one in ETC before the buffs but I cound't resist 8 mana Jaraxxus.
I am going off on a whim here but what about replacing Azshara with Theotar actually and placing Rivendare in ETC? That way you have a way to potentially cheese very heavy control decks(specifically damn Priest...) and you are also putting a few more cards in your deck so that you can force them to reach fatigue before you.
Yes, I am aware this strategy probably falls short in case they've got Steamcleaner but I'd still say it's a worth trade-off as more often than not I haven't really used Azshara much in my own matches. Not to say that she's bad but she doesn't that much for you either in my personal opinion.
I don't know, those are just my own two cents about it all.
Love the deck anyway, keep up the great work!
Edit: And of course, I am just a simple D6 peak lmao. So maybe my suggestion isn't that great after all, who knows?
