I don't think I've had more fun in a long time playing Priest than with this deck
If you want to have the possibility of playing 12 waves of Carnival Clowns (not that any opponent will ever last that long without conceding) then you HAVE to try this deck
I've created a video guide to explain some of the combos, strategies, win conditions and mulligans as well as my overall verdict of the deck
Enjoy
Really fun Priest deck to play. I'm at an even 50% win rate (5-5) but I feel like there's the potential to stay competitive in most matches - perfectly drawn/curved aggro decks notwithstanding.
I'm going to agree with some of the other comments on here in that an additional 10 drop should be added because when you don't draw Xanesh life can be difficult; however, I'm not sure what you would substitute out? Maybe The Nameless One? but it provides a decent amount of utility.
Glad you're enjoying it - if you do find a good 10 drop let me know - really enjoy this deck
woah! Kolento! Big fan!
Really cool idea but this deck just barely ever works... really hard to stay alive vs hunter, and when you finally get close to end game you are desperatly searching for a way to corrupt clowns without wasting y'shaarj, or desperatly searching for samuro so u dont just lose the game to being damage so much. and you just dont have a good enough balance between board clear and mid to late game. Its just too messy and situational, I played maybe 30 games with it at diamond 5+ rank and my winrate was terrible.. I understand the method and its a really cool idea and I was super excited to try it I even bought a few legendarys I didnt have. But reality is 20% winrate at best.
And to make it clear, I played ALOT of this deck and really had alot of laughs, but a a competetive deck its WAY too hard to pull off, 9 out of 10 times I cant even corrupt the clowns. and the meta decks of warlock just destroy your deck with tickatus then bring it back and do it again... making you lose 10 valuable cards. Hunters just outpace you and kill you before you can even get to the end game. And best case senario you get lucky enough to last till round 7,8,9, your heavily relying on having gotten either a corrupted insight that you then pulled a clown with and also got alexstrasza to activate it with or you were able to get xanesh by round 5 and played it then pulled a clown, then pulled and played one of your 2 cards over 7 mana, which 1 of which is VITAL to your combo.... so it just doesn't work. I tried alot of different tweaks after the first post trying to figure out how i could activate clown more reliably, then i gave up on that and started looking for other win conditions and the deck is just too slow.
If this deck was to work, you need 1 more win condition atleast, draconic studies is also not a secondary win condition as the usual pulls are terrible. Id suggest replacing draconic studies, alexstrasza. Hoarde operative could be nice for keeping up with paladins? Blistering rot could be good for slowing down the agro decks, and if you can get buffs on them they can be pretty difficult to stop for agro decks.Overlord runthak could be nice for buffing ur clowns/ maybe your hand better while also slowing down agro? or maybe shadow hunter vol'jin to slow down buffed decks? maybe even think about flesh giants because your going to be healing yourself so much? im not sure yet. I am going to be messing with this deck for a while I think trying to figure out how I can make it work. But fantastic concept and I am having alot of fun with it.
Fun concept but I don't like the idea that unless you draw Xanesh early there is no way to corrupt the clowns besides playing Y'Shaarj.
I would personally add another 10 drop to this deck.
fair comment, I've played about 20 games with this and it's only happened once where I used Y'shaarj to corrupt clowns, but your point is valid. Maybe a scrapyard elemental or Yogg
Competitive approach - I've tried a similar approach on Clown mage (abusing Egwinn copied spell damage instead), 10-mana cards feel so bad in standard right now.
Colossus is the safer pick but too slow if you are not running ramp or managerie package.
10 mana Kazakus golem has hard deckbuilding restrictions;
Yogg ofter loses you more matches than you would win, especially in control matchups where you just want to corrupt your clowns. It's still the way to go in spell-heavy archetypes;
Y-sharaj must have just cuz you can't run more than 3 10 mana cards
Rabbit same as Colossus but worse
The 10 mana 10 dmg mage card rocky boy one of the best
Survival of the fittest 10 times better than all the above
So tl;dr: Clown archetype, in standard as-it-is, can be competitive just on druid. In other classes you can't get past the fixed % to be hand-screwed by bad (more exactly, not enough good) cards.
great summary - I guess we wait for more 10 drops in future sets XD
