Hey everyone, I'm Gatormatthew. I finish top 500 on NA every month, and I make educational Hearthstone content. Today's guide is on Evolve Shaman. This deck includes a lot of new cards is a hell of a lot of fun. Below, I have a quick guide + a 20-minute video where I play a few games with the deck and explain my choices. Hope you enjoy it!
Mulligan Guide: This sounds absolutely crazy. Only look for Cagematch Custodian. The card blows every other card in the deck out of the water. If you have Cagematch Custodian, you are fine keeping things like Desert Hare, Sneaky Delinquent, and Pit Master.
Specific Card Choices: The most interesting exclusions from this deck in my list are Revolve and Mutate. They both looked horrible in the data, and they both did not have much value. This deck relies entirely on Boggspine Knuckles. Mutate and Revolve are both somewhat side win conditions to Boggspine Knuckles, but who cares? If we don't have the Boggspine, we aren't going to win anyway. Other notable inclusions arePrize Vendor and Novice Engineer. These cards replace themselves in your hand, leading to bigger Derailed Coaster turns, and also draw us towards.... you guessed it, Boggspine Knuckles.
If you want to see me play live on Twitch, I stream every weekend from 1pm-3pm EST and every Mon/Wed/Fri from 1:45pm-3:45pm EST. Link to Twitch
Tried this deck ( Just to précise I'm not a beginner and was getting good results with an evolve deck with mutate, but without sea giant and broomsticks and some other differences) .
Trying this "legend" deck for several hours in gold 10 standard and I'm utterly crushed by every class. I don't remember a single win. Maybe one 3 hours ago, can't tell.
Priest manage to counter easily the deck with the 2/6 taunt and khartuth, mass wipe spell, resurrection spell etc etc
Warlock just keep using fire plague / rain of fire/ twisting neither / school spirits / flame breather on my board each time I manage to get ahead
Warrior destroy my boards with brawl / the legendary minion setting health to 1 + dealing one damage when dead etc etc
Paladin just get rid of the minions with the 2 damage on enemies spell or if I manage to get strong minions, spell equip a 1/4 weapons setting health to 1 , goodbye the strong board. ( And he blocks easily with the spell 8 health + 8/8 taunt twice)
Shaman usually depends on the initial draw of the weapon / cage match
Mage and Hunter prevent the evolving of the board with their goddamn damage all minions for 2 or 3 damage when the hero is attacked. the hunters have a lot of option to quickly boost weak minions and deal lot of damage without even caring for my board. And the mage usually have spells to ruin the board, at least to chain freeze it when he has low health point until using a broken shit like yoga saron and bam you lost the game.
Do I even need to mention rogues?
Oh not all hope is lost, at least I do fairly good against Druids trying to get survival of the fittest as quick as they can without even caring for their early board . Wow.
Well to me this deck is weak, too easy to counter for almost every class. I watch tons of vids and I know how to play the deck btw. So either it's weak or I'l seriously unlucky to go like 10 loss in a row...
Edit : Another game another defeat against a mage.
3 damage secret wipe out my early weak board, I manage to build a strong one, he summons the 2 damage per secret played minion, plays 3 secrets in a row, my 7 minions are dead. I'm left with 2 cards in hand ( lightning bloom and broom) no way to draw unless I get a draw minion, A 6/6 dragon and some other minions on his side doing damage and his spells destroying the few minions left I'm trying to evolve ( totems and weak things since u lost pit masters + hate on the strong board kill and can't draw the duplicates) and then I die. Can't see what I do wrong except choosing a bad deck?
I really think that Revolve is an overlook. It can give you a win without even playing the Knuckles.
I opted for x2 Serpentshrine Portal and x2 Tour Guide instead of novice and sea giant. Tour guides a nice little 1 cost + totem summon to drop before boggspine.
I went from Gold 10 to Platinum 6 in one straight line, have tried two days in a row but can't seem to go further. I have replaced both Sea Giants for Revolves because it helped me get rid of some buffed stuff, still can't crack Platinum 5.
Deckwise I would cut , Prize Vendor and Novice engineer for Stormstrikes and Serpentshrine portals. Good luck in your games!
I managed to cross the Platinum 5 barrier for the first time before I made these changes, I'll try those and see how further I can go. Thank you!
Deck worked well. Got to legend with it today, thanks. From empirical experience, you can expect about 1 in every 10 games to be an utter defeat, where you won't draw your weapon or Cagematch Custodian until it's too late, or not at all (anyone care to do the math?). Apart from that, it's pretty consistent. About 50-50 against the super aggro DH. Super consistent against Priest and Paladin in current meta. Almost sure loss against warrior, unless you manage to keep a board by forcing and countering Brawls, Bladestorms, etc.
Some tips:
Okay, an update. I have replaced both Sea Giants for Instructor Fireheart and a Bogstrok Clacker, and I can say that the deck has since become a lot stronger.
Sorry I haven't responded! I agree that Sea Giant is replaceable. The cards I would look to swap in are Surguing Tempest, Serpentshrine Portal, Stormstrike, or Bogstrok. Novice Engineer and Prize Vendor are also probably replaceable for those cards.
Hope you enjoyed the guide :)
