Welcome to my deck guide for Spell Damage Dragon Shaman, a powerful burst deck with combo potential and great flexibility.
This deck relies on a strong Spell Damage package combined with a Dragon package. Some Dragon cards already benefit/come with Spell Damage, like Squallhunter, Lightning Breath and of course, Malygos. There are many powerful Spell Damage combos which are utilized to great effect in this deck, with one central combo that can be performed a variety of ways (see below).
I'm unsure yet if Spellbook Binder should be substituted for Arcane Watcher, but so far the draw has been invaluable. Far Sight could be a great inclusion, though we already have plenty of 3-Cost spells, and we would rather draw our damage spells with Vashj Prime. Crimson Hothead was a last minute inclusion and has surprised me with it's effectiveness, though it remains to be seen if it beats out Twilight Drake.
The Finishing Combo:
We reduce the cost of Malygos Frizz Kindleroost to (7), generate 1-2 copies of Primordial Studies using Wandmaker and Cobalt Spellkin and play Malygos for 5-6 Mana, alongside generated Lightning Bolts or Frost Shocks, Lava Burst, Molten Blast or Serpentshrine Portal. This can be further boosted by Rune Dagger, if you have one already equipped.
This great deck. had 12-10 win rate. Finally, I feel something that is working with the relatively shitty shaman cards we got this expansion (no card draw no end game). However, I removed both lady vashj and malygos and added two arcane watchers instead. I could be wrong but here is the rationale:
Maly: it would be a dead card in our hand in the early game and with this meta and no enough card draw, I felt I can't afford that. Aso, we often have to use spell damage minions discovered from Primordial early game. so it's hard to shoot for 5 mana maly. we could make it but we would be dead with the crazy paladin.
Vashj: i felt its not worth having it in the deck and not essential to win. it could be discovered by primordial most of the time. drawing the prime + Maly is the perfect scenario but too slow and when i tried it and often end up dead until i get the combo.
Arcane watcher: best early board presence. mostly too big too handle at turn 3.
what's working so far is to chip damage and control until you get lethal with burn spells.
Thanks for trying out the deck! I agree with you about Vashj and Malygos. Malygos is dead in hand about half the time and the half it doesn't get played is often bad enough to get steamrolled. While I would love the combo to work, it rarely does, so I'm going to remove it from the deck. I have played a successful Vashj Prime only TWICE ever out of around 50 games, so it is definitely not drawn enough in this deck to see an inclusion also.
I actually tried a version with Arcane Watcher, and you are spot on, it is a very good threat for it's cost in this deck.
Thank you for the feedback!
