Hello everyone!
My name is Anomaly and I am a consistent Legend player bringing to you a spicy Highlander GALAKROND warrior deck! Yes you saw it right, this deck actually makes use of the galakrond hero card. The deck has multiple win conditions in theDragonqueen Alexstrasza [/card] ,[card]Kronx Dragonhoof, The bombs, andZephrys the Great and of course, Galakrond, the Unbreakable!
TheRisky Skipper andArmorsmith combo is also there for tons of armor gain along with early game cards like theEVIL Quartermaster.
Mulligan:
The most important cards to look for are usually consistent around all warrior decks,Ancharrr,Corsair Cache and when going against aggressive matchups,Risky Skipper/Armorsmithare usually the cards you want to hard mulligan for. In certain matchups like demon hunter,Bladestorm orSword and Board is also a good keep.
Strengths:
- Really good draw and cycle throughout the deck
- Multiple Win Conditions
- Galakrond is not something players know how to play around since it so rarely seen.(They NEVER expect it!)
- Hard counters Highlander decks due to the bomb package.
- Its a warrior, tons of removal!
Weaknesses:
- Drawing quickly through you deck means you are almost always behind on the fatigue game plan.
- Does not have the innate value which other highlander decks like Rogue or mage possess (Its why we bomb theirs out of the picture!)
- The 2 card Galakrond package is the x factor in one of the hardest matchups for any warrior archetype; Galakrond Priest. You can just hit face for 3 everyturn and really pressure the priest down.
Used this deck from Bronze 10 and currently am in diamond 10 in 4 hours and 40 minutes of play!
Card Replacement:
- In terms of what cards you cannot replace, the Highlander Cards, Kronx and In my personal opinionAncharrr possibly being the only other legendary needed, the rest is replaceable but it does lower the overall power level of the deck. Risky Skipper from the Adventure is also required.
- Kor'kron Elite forKargath Bladefist is good as the immediate effect of dealing with the enemy board is there without the prime payoff later on.
- AlthoughBlastmaster Boom is a GREAT card and solid wincondition, Something like anEvasive Drakonid,Evasive Wyrm, or if you have access to it, aSiamat.
- Deathwing, Mad Aspectcan be replaced by a rush minion like anEvasive Wyrm or add a threat likeAlexstrasza [/card]. Alex is really good in this deck as you can hold onto cards like your[card]clockwork goblin in hand and late into the game can start shuffling bombs into the deck and alex face to setup bomb lethal plays.
- Another solid card option for more removal can be the most broken 4 mana 4/5 ever printed in theOmega Devastator, it still exists ya know!
- Harrison Jonesis there to provide more draw to the deck as having oneShield Block andBattle Rage I felt was not enough. However,Acidic Swamp Ooze is a more than feasible replacement.
- Now if you are trying to make a control warrior deck I assume you have the necessary removal tools like theBrawl,Shield Slam andBladestorm but, the latter can be replaced by aSlam orSword and Board for its cleanliness against Demon Hunters. Another card that can help in this department is adding aCobalt Spellkin, as most of the warrior 1 cost spells are either forms of Value or Removal.
Gameplay:
This decks gameplay is what makes it so unique and fun as hell to play!
Since the foundation of this deck is a mashup of all the other warrior decks it can be seen as the jack of all trades, master of none. The early phases of the game against most classes that are either aggro, or tempo-based like Rogue, Demon Hunter, Hunter, and sometimes the Mirror, you turn into the super control warrior fanatic clearing anything and everything they play if it poses any kind of threat to your well being!
Use cards likeAncharrr, andShield Block, your 3 drops to bide your time. Something I want to stress is dont greed yourZephrys the Great into aggressive matchups, if you can gain control of the board early using him, then do it. Also, keep note of the fact that your face being damaged adds an extra draw to yourBattle Rage so sometimes taking damage cannot be a bad thing. You want to usually keep theRisky Skipper andArmorsmith combo for the mid to late game for heaps of armor but if a board has to be dealt with don’t hesitate using the skipper. Where the game turns on its head is the Galakrond x-factor nobody sees coming, when you think you have weathered the storm and the opponent is running out of threats, turn the tide with your Galakrond, drawing a HUGE minion and getting access to a Smorc hero power Pirate warriors dreamed of! The tables turn and you just demolish the remains of their wimpy minions and take that W!
Note: Putting bombs against a rogue or demon hunters that want to draw discounted cost cards actually messes it up as if they draw a bomb as the 0 cost card, the next card they draw will NOT be discounted, something interesting to keep in mind!
Against other Highlander or control decks, these matchups are a little bit different as especially against Mages, and Hunters the bombs are paramount, because of what it does to their highlander win-conditions. You want to keep the mulligan similar for the most part,Corsair Cache,Wrenchcalibur,Ancharr, and sometimes you would keep a value card like aBloodboil Brute ,EVIL Quartermaster or even one of your threats if your facing the resident sleeper priest.
Again, you have the tools needed to deal with most mage boards minus some crazy scam box shenanigans. And turn into the Smorc Dragon to finish them off. This is not a fatigue deck, so you will have to turn around and become the aggressor at some point which is why we have theGrommash Hellscream plusInner Rage combo to serve as our ownDinotamer Brann!!
I will be editing this guide with all the links to the cards soon!!
Hope you guys enjoy the deck!
I like the deck. 3-0 at the moment, thank you.
What's the reasoning behind no Galakrond, the Unbreakable support cards? Is there really no need to upgrade him? You only want the hero power by that point towards the end game?
And how about a Hoard Pillager? It's a Pirate and I don't think you'd be sad to equip at least 2 of the 3 weapons included (Ancharrr being the only bad draw if you're out of Pirates)? Is it a matter of deck space by that point?
Hello Rudefruit,
The Hero card is purely for the hero power, primarily for the priest matchup. It’s probably the best Galakrond battlecry when it comes to no invokes as well. Hoard Pillager is a greedy option that I would add if the meta were a bit slower. You can cut something like a Restless Mummy for it and try it out though!
Thanks for the reply. I'm giving your list a go at the moment Kor'kron Elite for Kargath Bladefist as I don't have him.
Just played an epic game against this deck with my shaman. Beat him, but Jesus, it was a showdown haha. Best game I’ve played in a while!
hate that moment when your ancharr turns into a none or one card draw
The bane of a warrior player’s existence!
sorry Bro but hard to believe. I don't see the quick cycle here, its just standard and drawing the bomb weap is pure luck. I bet theres many games where you only have 1 Bomb in opponents deck and he Zephrys you or whatever. I don't see how this is beating Highlander Hunter which is all over the ladder and as you mentioned Priest/Druid. Its the basic weakness of Highlander : You have all the answers but you need to have them in hand which is rarely the case.
I’ve faced 1 highlander hunter where I didn’t get highlander deactivation and decimated him anyways. Note: Jack of all trades master of none. It isn’t as good at shuffling bombs as bomb warrior but it has cards like DQ Alex, Galakrond, Zeph etc instead....
Also, just going around to decks and criticizing everything is a very weird thing for someone to do. Actually play the deck with a respectable sample size then comment in the future.
no offense, don't know why your decks always show up featured. I actually look for interesting control decks and new ideas. Then I try them and if it doesn't work out I comment, just doesn't happen to be another Hell yea Im beating everyone. I actually play those decks and if I don't win I look for improvement. Im not a consistent legend player but I do find D10-5 more challenging then D5+ very often.
I dont wanna make the deck bad, nah, Im just pointing out problems that I had and I faced 5 HL Hunter and 2 ExoticDruids. Keep up the work
Thanks for your downvote for facing 2 decks, and I’m featured a good bit because the majority say my decks work. Luck gave you the short end of the stick in said games. Druid is the hardest matchup.
First off, I must say, the guide is very well written. Kudo's for that.
The deck is very fun to play aswell as to learn. Priest is certainly a hard match-up but I can manage.
Please keep us updated with any changes you make.
Hello Descy,
Thanks for the positive feedback, I try to put a lot of effort into the guides to get the idea and gameplay of the deck across as thoroughly as possible. As for the priest matchup, it’s a 15-20 minute game but one that I am yet to lose. GALAKROND ASAP in this matchup, any kind of control Galakrond or highlander priest doesn’t run nearly enough taunts to stop 3 damage face every turn! Plus with a weapon equipped that’s 6 damage and the addition of Grommash Hellscream with inner rage is 18 burst in a turn!!
Galakrond is in the decklist specifically for those pesky priests!
Mmm how the turn tables
Lol it’s basically, being the reactive deck till you galakrond, then you “turn the tables” and become the aggressor/play proactively!!
I mean I get the concept of the deck, clearly there's been a decent amount of thought put into it all, but I was just quoting the Office lmao
Truuuuuu LOL
Makes sense, thx bro!
Had an awesome combo already... Turn 2 (with coin) play a 1/10 Warmaul Challenger and Turn 3 zeph into inner fire —> opponent instantly concedes. haha.
cool deck, 2-0 to start at D5. Will play it more tomorrow and see how far I can climb. I also don’t have Kargath so I put in Korkron elite for now, but may replace it with Faceless Corrupter for even more removal.
Thanks!
Edit: Not moving much anymore...2-0 to 2-7. Time to move on.
Sorry to hear that ;/
seems to be doing fine on my end. Might just be a stretch of poor draws or luck.
