Yesterday I reached legend with my Highlander Mage deck. Before this, I reached Diamond 5 with Handlock and was stuck between Diamond 5 and 4 because I continued playing with it. But when I switched to this, I finally made it.
So, I made it with 74% winrate facing lots of Demon Hunter (mostly Tempo ones but I encountered a few Kael'thas OTK as well) and Warlocks (mostly Galakrond but my final boss was a Zoo which was pretty easy to beat). This may suprise you but they were pretty easy to beat.
Against Galakrond Warlock I would often fatigue them because they drew faster than me and I would just remove or freeze their threats until he ran out of options. One thing to keep in mind is that their Sacrificial Pact can target your Imprisoned Observer and any other demon you get from Power of Creation (learned this the hard way). Also try to save your removals for their Kronx Dragonhoof into 8/8 dragon, Dragonqueen Alexstrasza and Galakrond, the Wretched demons.
Against Demon Hunters early minions like Imprisoned Observer, Overconfident Orc, Scalerider and Doomsayer are best keep against them. Spells like Ray of Frost, Arcane Breath, Frostbolt and [cardFrost Nova[/card] are also cards you would like to keep becase Demon Hunter almost always gets board with 3-5 minions by turn 3. If on coin, I would often coined Imprisoned Observer because that would shut his board for couple of turns which is something that Mage needs to do as you get to turn 4 or 5 where you can win the board back with Frizz Kindleroost, Escaped Manasaber, Malygos, Aspect of Magic, Big Ol' Whelp and Cobalt Spellkin. Winning the board and shutting down their minions with cheap minions and spells is the way to beat DH. Also don't be afraid to play Zephrys, the Great early do win the board instead of ramping (except if opponent doesn't have any minions by the time you play it).
Since I didn't play much against other classes I don't think I could say something that could help you against them except fight for the board early and save your removals for their big swingy turns.
Anyway, I hope this helps and if you try this deck out let me know in the comments how it went for you and good luck on ladder :)
19k dust, not p2w at all rofl
Mind you I am F2P player. Did not spend a single cent on Hearthstone since the beginning. I don't play wild so disenchanting every wild card and try to maximize dust and gold. 3 days ago I already started saving for the next expansion. And most of these cards are from previous expansions. So yeah, not p2w at all.
1/3 of your deck is orange, try again?
Dude, you realize that doesn't prove anything. A F2P player can indeed have an expensive deck if he/she knows hot to approach the game like I mentioned before. There isn't a hidden rule in the game that F2P players must have cheap fast decks and no expensive ones. I could have easily disenchant entire collection for this deck and have no other cards than these AND being a F2P player. Is this how you argue with people, repeating your sentence over and over like you are making a point?
Edit: and what did you expect from a highlander mage to cost? 1000 dust? 2000 dust? Just search for every highlander mage out there on the internet and you will find out that every one of them (except a pre-made blizzard one...maybe?) is expensive.
Why no polymorph?
Because it is aggro meta with Demon Hunters, regular Hunters, Totem Shamans, Warriors etc.
Poly is mainly good against big things early on like Edwin which I didn't see at all while climbing ladder. And when you get to later turns you already have 8-10 mana to deal with big minions with Reno's, Alex, AoE's, Dragoncaster or Tortollan into something...
I personally didn't feel to put it in the deck but if you have the feel to put it then swap it with maybe Maiev or something that rarely helps you.
1/3 of the deck is orange wtf
Yeaaah... Kinda expensive...
I'm a Mage main so I tend to have almost every Mage card.
Rarely comment.
With this version of highlander mage I FINALLY managed to get out of platinum and into diamond. Thank you so much mate.
Nice job. Keep up winning and good luck :)
Deck is working out well, make it almost to rank 2 today with it, have only lost 2 or 3 games due to perfect draws by the enemies lol nice job
Thank you, glad to hear that :)
