Avoid playing secrets directly by all means. Desperate Measures should be avoided early game if possible, because your first priority is to use Bellringer Sentry and Mysterious Challenger to pull out secrets and thin your deck, so playing too many secrets directly may slow down that process (remember you can only have 5 secrets at the same time).

Play secret cards first before playing Desperate Measures.
