A simple list, aiming to defeat the Lich King before his turn 7. Potion of Heroism is a nice replacement for Argent Protector : it draws one card and avoid having a traitor on Lich king's side ;)
You'll need a bit of luck. You have to :
- draw the Dragonhawk in your initial hand or first draw in order to play it turn one : mulligan a lot and restart, a lot ;
- buff your hawk enough to kill on your turn 7 at worst - Dark Conviction on turn 2 is nice, but Blessing of Wisdom + Adaptation on turn 2 is quite a powerhouse too ;
- pray so the Lich King doesn't Obliterate your hawk on turn two.
That's a lot of "if" but don't despair ! Turn 1 Glacial Shard is not a problem if you have Light of Justice and a 1 crystal buff. The Lich king's "We will both die can" can be avoided with a bit of luck and a Silver hand recruit. Taunts (Sludge Belcher) are not that bad : they slow you down one turn, but it's manageable.
AdaptationHAS to be played BEFORE attacking, making Stealth a no-no. Toxicity is IMHO useless, LK minions always strike you. Windfury is obviously redundant. Taunt is to be avoided at all cost. And the deathrattle ability is... well you don't want your Hawk to die, do you ?
So best options are +3 ATQ, +1/+1, or +3 def at the very worst.
Forbidden Healing is by no mean mandatory, it's just a filler - but it helped me in one of my try to survive one more turn. I was stopped by an Obliterate, though. A Divine Strength could do the trick.
I guess you could try Sounds the bell ! but IMHO, you won't be able to echo it more than once (and for the same 4 crystals, you will always prefer Seal of Champions + Blessing of Might or a single Blessing of Kings).
Good luck !
Probably took me more resets then most but worked great when the stars aligned!
Took me around 30-45 minutes to get it right, found that using multiple hawks on the board via redemption/draws was one of the most effective things to get past turn 5 sludge belchers and other slow stuff. The only people commenting saying first try must be super lucky, because this deck is all luck from the lich king and your own draws. Just keep going and you will get it eventually!
Thanks for this deck! Very good! Finally I got Prince Arthas.
Awesome deck, just restart few times to dodge spell removals.
Thank you !
This deck worked like a charm. I had to mulligan and/or restart a couple doxen times, and I had to last through multiple timely Obliterate and the occasional early Val'kyr Shadowguard, but I finally pulled it off. Overall I felt whenever I drew a secret or direct damage I wanted it to be a buff instead. I did make a couple changes that seemed to help in this area:
-1 Forbidden Healing - games never go long enough to need to worry about my health
-1 Hammer of Wrath - most often 3 mana is wanting to spend on buffs
-2 Redemption - rarely time to catch up with a "new" Young Dragonhawk...especially when Lich King now has one too
-1 Desperate Stand - same reason as above
+1 Competitive Spirit - more easy buff
+1 Divine Strength - more buff
+2 Sound the Bells! - more reusable buff...came in very handy
+1 Blessed Champion - a definite finisher...game I won I was attacking with a 30/8 Young Dragonhawk on turn 5
Overall, great deck. Made the Paladin challenge to Lick King fun. THANKS~!!
Your modifications sound right. I made this deck with a little inspiration from here and there, and with the cards I had in my collection. Didn't want to craft anything for an adventure :)
Thanks for the good word !
This is the safest, cheapest, and quickest way to beat the Lich King with Paladin. The strategy is straight forward (buff the bird, go face, restart early and often), and you don't waste nearly as much time with the mulligan phase because there are multiple good opening hands rather than the One True Combo.
This was my winning opening hand:
Young Dragonhawk
Blessing of Might
Blessing of Wisdom
Light's Justice
Since the Lich King didn't coin out for Glacial Shard on turn one, I was able to use Blessing of Might and Blessing of Wisdom on turn two to fill my hand and get some early damage in. No Obliterate or Sludge Belcher made for an easy win.
It did take me three or four games to get it right, but there's a good chance you'll get it in one shot. Here's some stuff I messed up on:
- Not restarting if I didn't have Young Dragonhawk on turn one.
- Not prioritizing card draw by using Blessing of Wisdom.
- Attempting to manage the board. Just go face and keep that divine shield up.
- Trying to push past turn six when the Lich King had low health—it's not worth the heartache.
- Choosing Liquid Membrane for Adaptation. I've had better moments.
Great deck and write-up! Thanks for posting it.
