Best quote in game and I am not even a shaman player!
This card is insane in Even Shaman.
"When the totems are just right"
I just came from a game where i played totem carver with 5 totems out, making her a 4 cost 9/9, and then i used two of the cards that give a minion 1/1 for each totem out, so she ended up being a 6 cost 19/19, stronger than my deathwing and cheaper, aswell as not having deathwings negative battlecry effects. this card is op if you save it for the right moment.
i've never seen this played for anything less than a 5/5
great card in current totem shaman
Why does not anyone use it on Totem Shaman nowadays Standart? I did not understand...
There are enough totems in the game that this lady could potentially be a 10/10 like Frostwolf Warlord, but for one less mana. Even as a 6/6 she's pretty darn good.
Totems are love, totems are life!
Let us compare this card to Frostwolf Warlord. This costs 1 less but procs off of totems only, whereas the Warlord procs off any minion. I for one think that this is a favorable trade-off when you think about it.
Is it reasonable to believe that in a dedicated totem deck, the Carver will get on average about -1/-1 on the Frostwolf Warlord? That is a favorable trade for minions like this that tend to be dedicated fatties. The exact size of particularly large minions doesn't matter as often as the cost, and focusing on cost rather than overall stats means that this not only dodges BGH more often, but leaves a reasonable-for-the-cost minion in the event that it gets silenced.
Nope. There aren't enough totems for that to be true, and the totems we have need other minions to act as protection or activators.
This might be possible after a few expansions, but only if they release more cards like Totem Golem.
...which costs one more, and also competes with a lot of other strong 5-drops. Whereas totemcarver pretty much competes with shredder only.
It also competes with Defender of Argus, Chillwind yeti, Fireguard Destroyer, Dark Iron Dwarf, Sen'Jin Shieldmaster, and Gormok the Impaler.
If none of those can beat Shredder, I have no hope for this card.
There will be a reason and option to keep some totems on board with Totem Golem and Tuskarr Totemic, so in totem decks it should be 6/6 for 4 mana.
I will try totem decks with this card.
I think being cheaper for the same stats makes it better. Easier to play it early. I mean you are just as likely to have a few totems outs as you are minions. Especailly with Totem Golem and Tuskkar. If you opponent just leaves one totem up, 4 for a 5/5 is not bad. Plus playing it on an empty board isn't as painful as playing a 4/4 for 5 mana.
Strong 4-drop that isn't Fireguard Destroyer? Make my opponents have to remove my totems or suffer the consequences?
Nice.
With just 1 totem is a turn-4 5/5. It contests Loatheb, Sludge Belcher and other 5 drops and then you can play your 5 drop on an empty board. Against agro I suppose is better to keep for late game.
A strong 4 drop that will punish your opponent in the early game if he leaves your totems unattended.
AND no overload.
Bad card 10/10 IGN
Frostwolf can't be played to an empty board without sucking. This can be: 4/4 for 4 mana isn't terrible. Ergo, space goat > orc.
It is not "terrible", it's one health worse off than a yeti and the same number of stats (- taunt) as a Shieldmasta. It is the definition of passing the vanilla test.
Except that it's effectively a 5/5
