Effect is insane but when was the last time rogue played an 8 mana card? Most decks aren’t even running the hero since it got changed to 8 mana.
Could be a thing for highlander rogue if Reno is back in core set though
As long as questlines exist, these type of slow cards are half dead. In wild where rogue has evasion and saps and reno then maybe it can work
Indeed we are
Another well designed card that requires setup but has direct impact to the game while engaging with the board. So glad they though about these cards carefully and integrated the board into the game while also allowing decks to have finality.
Where the **** did I say or hint that I misread the card to require PLAYING Pirates as oppose to SUMMON?
You and the other guy are the ones that need to open your eyes and actually read my comment.
Even with SUMMON 8 other Pirates. I still don’t think it is any good. You need cheap Pirates to play on curve for this to work not situational high cost ones and certainly not bad ones like the River Croc 2 mana Dredge Pirate card.
Uhmmm, what?!
LE: Ooh OK, you choose one of those. I thought all of them was gonna go off at first.
happy to see hooktusk back! Pretty awesome disruption card as well. Fits the rogue identity just perfect. I personally do not think that its op, because the condition is so harsh, and it can come EARLIEST at turn 8.
He is assuming that I forgot/misread that the card reads “summon” not “play”.
So what he is saying is baseless assumptions about me regarding my comment where I didn’t even mention the word summon nor play
I hope this won't be a top tier deck because this looks really annoying to play against, especially if Shadowstep will remain.
Perhaps a slight buff to control pirate warriors who play Sky Raider?
Something like Dirty Rat is fine but this is just extremely annoying. I really hope this is not worth playing. Card disruption from the opponents hand is fine and board also. But not the deck.
Blizzard: We're going to an underwater city filled with Naga, so we're introducing a cool new naga tribe and giving every class naga cards!
Me: Oh cool! I hope rogue gets a good one! Maybe a legendary!
Blizz: Except Rogue.
Me: ...do we get more thief support? that's a fun mechanic that has really started to find its footing in standard.
Blizz: No. You had a good deck that other people hated last expansion.
Me: ...ok. Do we get a new SI:7 card?
Blizz: A what?
Me: Please don't tell me it's pirates.
Blizz: YOU GET PIRATES
It does play into the thief archetype tho. All of the choices are stealing smth.
Imo Hooktusk is a very cool disruption/finisher and you don't need much to activate her 2x Azsharan Vessel and a few dredges (maybe the Tuskarrrr Trawler) and you got her active (If you aim at lategame this should suffice).
Also, remember that there is a core rotation. Maybe Tess will see a return, who knows.
SI:7 is gonna be a Year of the Gryphon exclusive I think. Naga... I dunno if they really fit Rogue necessarily. (But I dunno if they really fit Hunter either necessarily.) I'm sure they'll get at least one Naga card.
You think Tuskarrrr Trawler is a good Pirate? It is a 2/3 river croc
The only good Pirate you have there is Bootstrap Sunkeneer and it cost 5 mana and you don’t want to play/summon it willy nilly.
You ideally don’t want to play the bad Tuskarrr Trawler willy either, if you do then it is just a River Croc. Now you have 4 Pirates in your deck that you want to play in specific turns and an 8 mana Pirate that wants you to play/summon 8 Pirates as you reach turn 8.
I doubt Pirate Rogue will be a thing. Rogues might just go for Queen Azshara and build a deck for her.
In this type of a deck Tuskarrr Trawler is okay. on turn 2 you don't really mind playing a low impact-ish 2 drop, and later in the game dredge can get you a sunken vessel or whatever other submerge cards rogue gets. Plus it's just a cheap pirate to activate this. Not much worse than Bloodsail Buccaneer a lot of the time in Pirate Warrior.
Cutlass Courier I think is good. 3 mana 2/5 draw a card is super solid. Azsharan Vessel is fine too, I'm not sure what everyone's problem with that card is. It's maybe a bit too fair but hopefully the game will allow fair cards to make an impact again and the upside is really nice. (Reminiscent of Fal'dorei Strider which was a very strong card)
...also we've seen like none of the core set, and Rogue I think outside of Warlock still has the fewest revealed cards.
On turn two you can choose to dagger up or play Tuskarrr Trawler. Daggering up will allow you to draw a Pirate with Cutlass Courier. Playing Cutlass Courier on 3 without dagger is a weak play. Amalgam of the Deep seems like a better card to include than Tuskarrr Trawler honestly but Rogues will end up including both because they wont have enough good Pirates to make this work. It is too janky and weak and the rewards you get from Hooktusk aren't that great honestly. I don't even think Azsharan Vessel is any good either it is too costly at 5 and it only summons 6/6 in stats for that turn. Compare Azsharan Vessel with Double Agent and you will see the difference between getting a 6/6 on turn 3 vs getting 6/6 on turn 5.
I could be wrong
I mean I'm positive there's at least going to be a few 1 and 2 drop pirates that we haven't seen yet.
Stealth on the Azsharan Vessel makes a big difference. 6/6 in stats with stealth is fairly strong. Double Agent gets picked off by Frostbolt-style spell cards (3 for 2s). Getting it again for "free" is even better.
And the rewards you get from Hooktusk are insane. +4 hand advantage, +1 hand advantage (-2) for your opponent, or mind controlling your opponent's biggest thing? All crazy. And the fact you get to pick is very strong too.
We're not going to know for sure until we see the rest of the set, tho.
Yes, Tuskarrrr Trawler is a good pirate indeed. Your comparison with Double Agent and Azsharan Vessel doens't make any sense for couple reasons, the only synergy you have with Double Agent avaiable to Rogue is Shadowstep (not even that good) you cant handbuff it consistently. The minions from vessel are Pirates and Stealth likely to have a ton of synergy as time goes by , not to mention Preparation Scabbs Cutterbutter, Southsea Captain etc (assuming some of these stay in the core set).
As for Amalgam of the Deep i agree this card is just good in general but the main purpose to me is to try to fish for your class colossal not every class is going to abuse it, Rogue colossal is a beast for example there is no good reason to play beasts in Rogue right now at least.
I guess Maestra of the Masquerade Rogue dominating the meta is not something people remember apparently. Double Agent turn 3 is way stronger than Azsharan Vessel turn 5. Easy and simple comparison for what two 3/3 minions would do. You don't need synergy if you can out tempo everyone by turn 3.
I don't think Preparation and Southsea Captain will stay in core. Scabbs Cutterbutter had plenty of time already. It is just not a good enough card.
Amalgam of the Deep purpose is to fill out the X number of tribes requirement for any deck that wants to focus a certain tribe. You play a tribe minion then you get another tribe minion in your hand. Nobody is going to put it in their deck for the sole purpose of fishing out a colossal, that is absurd. You want more colossal minions then just use Ambassador Faelin or better yet Queen Azshara
