Mistermath's Card Ratings for Voyage to the Sunken City:
7/10
The two cards to compare this two are Aeon Reaver and Vilespine Slayer. Combo is typically balanced as if it is a battlecry that costs 1 more mana, which makes Bootstrap Sunkeneer obviously blow Aeon Reaver out of the water (no pun intended). Not only is the kill not conditional, it also effectively silences, as deathrattles aren't triggered. This also has +1 attack on Vilespine, which was a must-run in tempo rogue back in the day. The thing is, power creep has seemingly caught up to this card, as it is only a tech choice in pirate rogue. Still, it is clearly extremely powerful, seeing as it is stronger than some of the strongest removal creatures ever printed.
Poor Kidnapper...
Great single target removal, Rogue's specialty. At 5 mana it's awkward so waiting to see how the whole Pirate package pans out.
Really hate this. Reminds me of Entomb or what it was called for priest. 6 Mana remove a minion without triggering anything. This even puts it at the bottom so without drege you will not see it again. Entomb was broken and played everywhere and this will also be.
So basically any late game minions are out of play now because rogue can cheaply remove them wirh buff effects etc. Well done Blizzard. Just print card 1 mana - your opponent can't play minions this game.
It's a good card, but I hate the way it just reinforces some of the irritating mechanics that rogue already have. This is an ongoing trend that Blizz has been doing for a while, making each class more and more extreme in whichever direction they've chosen.
If you play priest (or any big minion based deck) vs. rogue you basically never get a minion to stick and die on the board. They always get cheaply bumped back into your hand. If sap ends up back in the core set priest might as well just sit on the bench again if rogue gets a viable deck (and lets be honest, when has rogue not had a viable deck?)
This is called class identity. U cannot have rogue focus only on weapons coz cobras and taunts wreck u. U cannot having him being a thief coz u lose tempo to access cards. U need these decks and mechanics to counter other mechanics like broken rez priests and insanely buffed minion etc.
It's amazing. Goes into SI:7 rogue, goes into any tempo or mid-range rogue build. Maybe we'll have some new pirate synergy for rogue in this set (Hooktusk was in the trailer), very exciting card.
