A New Mystery Card Back Has Been Added To The Game
In today's patch, a new card back has been added to the game with the name "Mysteries of the Phoenix" and only a description telling us that we can receive this card back if we "solve the mysteries hidden throughout the Barrens" and an Achievement tracking progress for 4 steps or parts named "???" which tells us it will reward the card back (and 100 Achievement points).
With the colors and imagery of the card back, as well as invoking the Phoenix, it strongly hints at a Blood Elf or Silvermoon flavor to this particular mystery.
So what could this mean? How are we supposed to get this card back? We don't know, but if you have any ideas, let us know in the comment section!
The new achievement for this card back...
A first clue!
User ArcyroX has a far better memory than we did, because he remembered seeing the card in one of our news posts from several months back: https://www.hearthpwn.com/news/7987-chinese-card-back-design-competition-winners.
It was one of 3 runner-up Prize winners, and they equated the Card Back to Kael'thas Sunstrider! That is surely a place to start!
Kudos to ArcyroX for this first clue!
Quote from BlizzardEpic Award (3 winners)
Epic Prize: 10,000 yuan cash prize + works will have the opportunity to be included in the "Heartstone" game.
Author: liguang with his work: "Kael'thas Sunstrider"
Evaluation of the development team: With a quick glance, you can recognize the conspicuous pattern of Prince Kael'thas and the classic red and gold color scheme. The emerald orb is also an ideal carrier for Hearthstone Vortex. The team seems to be able to see the vivid effects of adding green magic special effects to the game! Details such as the folds of the fabric and the golden carved edges are exquisitely crafted, forming an excellent secondary structure.
"the two twins are obviously referring to Solar Eclipse, Lunar Eclipse, Mark of the Spikeshell and Mark of the Wild."
the moon and the sun was obvious to me too, but i thought the twins below refers to some seed, like Living Seed (Rank 1), and guess who is on thet card... but im just guessing of course
In simplified chinese flavor text it literally says the two "Marks" are the twins below.
and if you have these cards, put them into a deck, go to the barrens map and? and what? play all of them?
For Guff Runetotem already works if you play in one turn: Lunar Eclipse, Solar Eclipse, Partner Assignment, Mark of the Spikeshell, Mark of the Wild, Guidance.
Now mistery quest ;)
i hope it is not a pay to win achievement like most of them and can be done by anybody
Celestalon said that: "I'll be up-front about one thing: There is one specific part of this whole mystery that is harder to do on Mobile (but still possible). However, you're nowhere even remotely close to it right now. It's safe to assume that mobile players can help just as much as desktop players right now. And no, nothing in this message is a clue."
Celestalon said thatThere is a general rule that Gameplay achievements must be done in Ranked/Arena/Duels. That rule does NOT apply to the #BarrensMysteries achievement.
I think the answer is in celestaion comment the hint is here some where like (up front/ right now) it’s up and right so may be in the book of mercenary board or barrens board
yeah it probably has to to something with board, because it is harder to interact with board on Mobile also
or the clues are in the flavor text which mobile user have to look up on another platform
Kael'thas's text says that the descent of the dragons was just a setback, so I went to see the cards from that set and there is one that looks a lot like a phoenix (3 mana 1/3, can't remember the name) and its description says something related to the backs of food-shaped cards, and I found a back (I think it's called "bonfire") that in the description clarifies that the card is not edible, could it have something to do with it?
Usually the text that its on the side of the card when you select it its funny or ironic but in the case of Xyrella, Varden Dawngrasp, Cariel Roame and Tamsin Roame it seems to be some sort of lore, anyone can relate that text with something?
I found instead that among the mercenaries the only ones that quotes themeseleves are: Guff Runetotem,Tavish Stormpike, Scabbs Cutterbutter and Rokara.
They are 4 like the steps, maybe it is a clue?
(Note: I'm italian so the flavor text can be different in other languages and I could be wrong)
The wording is different but the gist of it is the same, and in some language (like in french) the translation is obtuse and unintuitive in a way that leads me to believe it's forcing the wording to refers to other cards. (Scabbs is the most blatant, instead of translating "drink" as the simple french verb "boire" they change it to something along the line of "using illusions". to my reading, the only way both drinking and using illusion refer to the same thing is if they are hinting at potion of illusion
I think the community should just give up and send the devs a message not to do stupid shit like this again. Celestalon is smug in saying he solved it and has it set as favourite.
Leave it unsolved imo.
There's nothing wrong with stirring up some interest by getting people looking for a secret in a game. I think it's fun.
Honestly, games could really use more of this kind of thing. Special unlockable stuff makes it exciting to try and get it, and then you can feel cool when you do.
World of warcraft does things like this and there are entire communities dedicated to solving the mysteries. Then once they solve the puzzle its shared on the internet and it isn't special anymore.
Just accept it for what it is, a fun thing for people who like mysteries to explore. It's not for everyone.
idk
Mystery Card Back ??
I kind of feel if there is a board interaction (more difficult on mobile) it will come with a wailing caverns mini set board. I don’t think it’s all available to us yet.
Someone asked Celestalon if we can complete the achievement now or if we have to wait for a puzzle that It's not in the game right now and he said: "I've already got it favorited :-)"
Meaning what exactly?
It means that the puzzle is already in the game..
