Reverted Nerfs Announced - Druid, Hunter & Mage
A selection of Nerfed cards will see their nerfs reverted later this month and before Forged in the Barrens goes live. Blizzard announced the cards for Druid, Hunter and Mage, as well as technically Demon Hunter, which sees no cards being reverted.
The Changes:
- Keeper of the Grove from 2/2 stat line back to a 2/4 stat line.
- Ancient of Lore Same stats, now has choice to draw 2 cards, instead of 1 again.
- Starving Buzzard Now a 2 mana 2/1 with same card text again.
- Flare Now costs 1 Mana.
- Dinotamer Brann Now costs 7 Mana again.
- Hunter's Mark Now costs 1 Mana.
- Mana Wyrm Now a 1 Mana 1/2 stat line.
- Conjurer's Calling Now costs 3 Mana again.
- Dragoncaster Now costs 6 Mana again.
Accompanying this will be a change to Wyrm Weaver to a 4 Mana 3/5 statline with the Spellburst effect "Summon two 1/2 Mana Wyrms".
Quote from Alec DawsonWhen the 20.0 patch goes live later this month, there'll be a number of nerf reverts. This is before content unlock/rotation, so for a short period of time there will be a very interesting Standard meta. When considering reverts for 2021, we also considered future rotations. 1/4
Quote from Alec DawsonCould a card come back into Standard? We chose to softly revert those, as we'd like to avoid cards shifting between two costs or statlines each year. This will be the case for cards like Mana Wyrm or Flametongue Totem. They'll be back one day! 2/4
Quote from Alec DawsonAnother factor was looking at the level of positivity a revert brings to the Wild environment. Adding power to already strong archetypes wasn't high on our list so you won't see cards like Level Up being reverted this year. Want these reverts to enable you to play old decks. 3/4
Quote from Alec DawsonHere's a batch for today. DH gets none, so we'll do Druid, Hunter, and Mage. Full revert unless noted.
Druid:
Keeper of the Grove
Ancient of Lore (*editor's note, originally tweeted Ancient of War, but corrected to Lore later.)
Hunter:
Starving Buzzard
Flare
Dinotamer Brann
Hunter's Mark (costs 1)
Mage:
Mana Wyrm (1 mana, 1/2)
Conjurer's Calling
Dragoncaster
Quote from Alec DawsonAs part of this Wyrm Weaver moves down to a 4 mana, 3/5 and summons two 1/2 Mana Wyrms.
@YourPersonalGuru Actually quest hunter you mentioned has been best way to make control hunter decks during past year. this card seems to work fine in it
The Mana Wyrm change is a Big Nerf to Duel mages.
Shit you're right! Maybe they don't mind with all the people who complained about that particular HP, despite its modest win rate
Highlander hunter double brann combo see if I can get it to work that 1 in a 100
Where are the nerfs to standard, rogue is so damn stupid.
Is Mana Wyrm really an unnerf? Kinda feels like a lateral move to me
1 mana vs 2 mana is worlds different. However with that said I think overall the card is still lacking regardless to see any real play in wild. Maybe some spell combo deck utilizing Time Warp could work but even then there are better tools to use in that style of deck.
It's a good 1 drop, instead of a really underwhelming 2 drop.
It's way better now, not even close.
I don’t doubt that moving it to 1 mana will give it the viability to actually see play once more , and in that regard it is an unnerf. But it lacks the pre nerf survivability to withstand a lot of singular early minion trades and spells like holy nova, consecration, even arcane missiles. I don’t expect it will snowball the way it used to and that, to me, was some of the fun of the card.
2 mana buzzard is bonkers. They may not have thought this through.
The best hunter deck in wild is tier 4... and it’s tonk hunter. Face hunter is actually meme tier in wild, so nah, I’m sure it will help the deck, but it will be fine in wild.
still nothing compared to Kingsbane rogue and secret mage in terms of draw.
Because as we all know, when you buff a class, their decks only ever move one tier up in the meta :P
Where these druid cards were OP when they were first nerfed, they are now simply fair cards.
Brann doesn't need to be unnerfed and Mana Wyrm is now a lot fairer.
Brann definitely needs to be unnerfed, it messes with several combos in Wild.
Brann does need to be unnerfed because Hunter is BY FAR the weakest class in Wild.
WILD is WILD
play standard if you wann a balance experience
I dont think 1 mana is really going to change that, got a better chance putting your stock in the buzzard aggro potentially giving hunter the ability to get over all the efficient board clears that makes hunter bad in wild.
unless theres some kind of odd highlander unicorn out there thats super OP
Not sure how I feel about the Wyrm weaver changes. 2 health at 4 is kinda easy to kill with AoE. But it comes down a turn earlier.
