Year of the Dragon Card - Sludge Slurper Unnerfed
Last week Blizzard informed us that 10 cards would be unnerfed, 5 Wild cards, 4 Year of the Raven cards and 1 Year of the Dragon card. That Year of the Dragon card is now announced in this tweet: It's Sludge Slurper. We have provided the tweet and a nice graphic to visualize the change.
Quote from BlizzardIn our next update we'll be reverting nerfs to a few select cards, these will primarily be cards rotating into Wild. However, included in this update will be Sludge Slurper, who will revert back to 2 Attack / 1 Health.
Always thought this card was more than OK in standard but always felt a bit underwhelming in wild. My guess is that whoever was playing it in their wild shaman deck still will and everyone who didn't, still won't. Unnerfing it doesn't bother me that much but hey, you never know! Curious about the next few cards that will be unnerfed though! Secretly hoping for Yogg who will most likely be the most wanted and least wanted unnerf at the same time xD
I have to look at this, g.d., Sludge Slurper on the front page of Hearthpwn...!
The card was never that strong in Wild even without the nerf.
It was just "good". There aren't many valuable 1-drops for Shaman.
I am glad they are reverting their nerf.
Kinda hilarious that about half the comments related to this topic are auto-hidden.
@OT: Many people expected Mogu Fleshshaper to be un-nerfed but that was very unlikely to happen. As long as Mutate (and now Explosive Evolution to a certain degree) remain in Standard it'd be quite problematic to have access to early 8- or 10-drops which sometimes might win you the game on the spot. As evidenced by the stats from HSR they clearly went overboard with balancing Shaman and the class shouldn't stay in the dumpster just because a single archetype (Galakrond/Quest) dominated the meta. Yeah, back when Aggro and the old Midrange Shaman were a thing they gutted the class as well but why shouldn't they learn a thing or two?
Both Galakrond and Quest Shaman are going to lose many tools come rotation, namely Shudderwock as the main win condition or the cycle package featuring Totemic Smash, Earthen Might, Spirit of the Frog, Zentimo, Electra Stormsurge and Haunting Visions. Also, without Lifedrinker the burst capability will be reduced. Therefore I think it's fair to say that Shaman needed at least a bit of help to become somewhat relevant again.
Makes NO sense.
The game is full of unplayable cards (from classic to most recent set), and instead of buffing those to make em even fringe playable, they buff a playable card because it's not overpowered anymore? What?
How is it overpowered? 2/1 for 1 is default stats, an extra 1 mana to get a random lackey. You pay 0 for that as a priest, and pay 1 for that as a warlock to discover a lackey.
It was never overpowered, what are you talking about. They nerfed a PLAYABLE card into unplayableness, that's why it was a MISTAKE and they're reverting it.
Just because you saw it in a deck somewhere (Quest Shaman perhaps) doesn't mean it's generally playable, which it is not. It can be forced into a couple decks that support its badness, similar to Evil Cable Rat, but it is in no way a good card at 1/1 - it is below the power curve and thus nearly useless.
Blizzard knows this which is why it is now being unnerfed. Blizzard's reasoning for nerfing it was people whining about Shaman and having little clue as to how to react, which is normal for them.
Man you're really mad your favourite class got nerfed, huh? Doesnt change the fact that if a card is played, it's obviously playable. Sorry.
(Oh and let's not forget that what youre ranting and ranting and ranting about here has nothing to do with my initial post. You probably only replied to someone to get into a fight.)
Ah yes, when you run out of points, just attack the person. Shaman has vanished from the ladder as a direct result of overnerfing cards like this. The statistics show this. Shaman has less than a 5% play rate. That's a dead class. If the card was playable, it would be used in decks that do not specifically rely on a gimmick of that card. It's only used in Quest decks or Overload decks, because it has both a battlecry and overload. Previous to the nerf it showed up in nearly every kind of deck, because it used to be playable.
Additionally, early game cards are the most important cards to govern playability for a class since they have the most frequent impact to a game. Overnerfing a class's early game cards results in a dead class, and that's where Shaman is now. Blizzard does not want dead classes.
You have no argument and there's not a single other person on this page agreeing that it was "overpowered." Sometimes you're just wrong. Bow out gracefully.
I think it is, lackey's are very underrated. They can swing momentum back in your favor by giving taunt minions +2 health, adding a dragon to your hand, etc. Murloc Raider can't do all of that.
Please revert Luna Pocket Galaxy back to 5 Mana, kthnxbye!
I could go to every single one of these posts and call the hearthstone devs idiots without reading the post and I’d be right more often than not. I’ve never seen such group of brain deads on such a popular game in my whole life.
Blizzard, do this more often, we like free dust. :)
What free dust are you talking about?
I guess he means nerfs and un-nerfs after some time has passed because most people during nerfs disenchant their cards for full dust value and at the time of un-nerf you are likely to have them back from packs again. But honestly the right term for this would be efficient disenchanting. Hall of Fame now that's free dust.
Eh, I guess this is fine.
I mean it was still EVIL Cable Rat but for 1 mana + Overload.
Now that I think about it, it was never really that problematic by itself. Hell, I forgot it had Overload until someone pointed it out to me because it was so oftenly used to play a Lackey turn 2. I guess it just was unfairly nerfed and emblimatic of a bigger problem (Quest/Galakrond Shaman) and I see they've really tanked in WR so you know, this is good for them.
So, Shaman will rise to its glory again *evil laughter*
It was very likely to be returned, that nerf was unnecessary.
So are we getting unerf card in standard and this is the 1st card to be leaked. Is this going to be a Doom in the Tomb situation but with cards that that people already dusted, I hope not cause nerf's are an auto discard for me and Im not crafting card that will be viable only for a month
