Dean Ayala on Shudderwock: Revisiting the Topic Early Next Week
Dean Ayala tweeted this evening that the team is going to be looking into Shudderwock feedback early next week.
How do you feel about Shudderwock? I can definitely agree with the animations being a bit on the long side and would definitely at least appreciate a less excruciating death.
Quote from Dean AyalaWe’ll be reading more feedback over the weekend and will revisit the Shudderwock topic early next week. Checking out both animation timings and feedback on the deck playstyle itself. Let us know what you think and enjoy Witchwood!
For me, the main problem is that the game doesn't force an end turn the moment the time is actually up but waits out all the animations. This makes it feel extremely unfair and annoying, simular to (but usually way longer animations, so way worse than) exodia mage. A timer-rope should be reliable, not open for interpretation, which is how this feels now.
Also that's just super-unfair towards other OTK-decks. If I'm playing a Malygos Druid and I fail to whip up my entire combo from hand, being (for whatever reason) just a second to late on dropping that last moonfire, I lose the game... Maybe a better example is miracle rogue (because here it actually happens quite a lot that you rope out in a gadgetzan cycle turn), If I can't cycle all my cheap spells into a win condition it's game over. The clock here is an actual balancing tool keeping the decks in check. That's how it should be for Shudderwock too. This would make the combo quite random in terms of succes, which would be very fitting for the card. It would NOT however, make it by any means weak.
It's 3 days in (I think) and I'm already sick of this meta. I don't see why Blizzard would lock the monster hunt away for two weeks until most of the hype has worn down. Imo that that would be far more enjoyable then ladder right now.
Shudderwock isn't a bad card. Its quite strong, but yeah something needs to be done about that animation! And also encountered a weird bug where my 8/3 rush divine shield minion became a 0/0 in my hand and died when I played it. 0.o I think it has a buggy interaction with the minion that makes end of turn effects happen twice. :P
I hate Shudderwock so far. Playing against the deck is usually a cakewalk where they do practically nothing and you stomp them, but if they get the upper hand somehow either by luck or by you playing a weak deck then boy is it excruciating. I only like 10+ minute games when It's control vs. control.
I don't think the deck is op, but I wouldn't mind seeing it go!
The problem is cube warlock, not shaman
1)We have warlock with 3-9 taunt on turn 5, or 5 doomguards on turn 6 (wr 64%)
2)We have paladin with full board on turn 3 (wr 64%)
3)We have new face hunt and no good neutral heal
Why deck with terrible wr, that need 4 cards to win is a problem, when we have such decks as above?
Statictic: Shaman is the worst class of the expansion
Stop this flame pls
1 - skip animations, have there effect occur instantly. show order in the history sidebar
2 - No. the combo isnt the problem. If it becomes a problem this would be the best way to kill it. "Battlecry: summon another saronite chain gang. It gains all effects on this card."
3 - If the deck end up more refined with a high win rate, then i'd approve. Forces needing fireplume to complete to combo. hence harder to pull off
4 - Shudderwock existing means future design choices are limited. the current combo isnt broken, but in the future it may be. Upon such happening then we should revisit nerfing him.
BLizzard has mentioned putting certain cards into the classics set, I think we should bring back dirty rat into the classic set to help counter otk decks, although then shudderwock would just build a deck that used dirty rat to play all the cards in their opponents hand then murders them so idk
hurr durr ...how about you get some arguments first instead of opting for an ad hominem?
While the deck is strong, I find that it is perfectly beatable. If any deck is a problem, it would be Cubelock. I doubt Blizzard would be happy about a deck dominating for 2 formats in a row.
Finally an official statement. "Wait for the meta to settle you whining babies" people still here?
The fuck is wrong with you ppl? "The deck is bad just fix animation." Are u fucking serious? Have you even played against the decent Shudderwock deck or did u just fucking face some garbage decks that included this card on ranks 20+? Have you even played this game after expansion? For fuck sake. This card is more then problematic. And it's definitly worse than exodia mage for a few reasons. First of all exodia mage needs to finish the quest which takes time and more importantly takes specific cards included. And finally exodia mage needs to collect 6 pices and play it together in single turn. That means exodia mage will need to draw at least 90% of his deck most of the times to actually play its combo. That gives the time for aggro decks to kill him. Exodia mage was definitly problematic anyway becouse of it's freeze mechanic which is uninteractive and combo itself sharing the same problem. Shudderwock though is much fucking worse becouse u dont need to build ur deck around specific cards so except like 6 neccesery cards u can put in solid defense cards that crashes aggro. Also you don't need to hold your combo pices, you just play them right u draw them (exept shudderwock itself ofc). And then there is that no fucking counter to deck. And you can do nothing to actually stop him. Not even dirty rat since it rotated out. It's not metter of "if shudderwock deck will defeat me" but rather "how fust Shudderwock will defeat me" most of the times which drove me crazy and made me just play wild decks instead of exploring standard becouse every secound deck is that broken shudderwock.
Aggro/mid decks destroy this deck, which has <50% winrate on HSReplay. It's only remotely good against control decks.
Hello :) Excuse my poor English
I totally agree with you, for me, the only way I found to counter Shudderwock deck is to play a mill warlock with treachery plus howlfiend in to defile combo.
But you have to renounce to some cards and is very hard to play against other decks.
I do very good against spiteful priest likely decks and tempo / control decks.
But aggro destroy me, I think it can't be helped. :)
This is what I play, and I like this more than cubelock :)

I really don't get the hate on OTK decks.
They're just decks with a fancier, stronger win condition than others, which takes way longer to set up than just "play a really big minion on curve" and therefore weak against aggro/mid decks.
I just think they make the game more fun, as opposed to arena in which you generally just have to play strong minions on curve in order to win.
I play constructed for a reason.
„Replay every Battlecry again (targets chosen randomly“. But this time, if your Shudderwock dies, the battlecry will immediately stop and you will overload as you would play overload cards...Kappa
Tess has no animations, shudderwock has.
Tess play cards you got randomly, shudderwock plays cards that make you win... Just few, too EZ.
FWIW - HSReplays is tracking the deck with a 42% win-rate and 550,000 games played. Even and Odd Paladin are both over 62% and 300,000 games played.
