Does Duskwood Play a Role in the Next Hearthstone Expansion?
Earlier today, the Hearthstone LATAM Twitter account posted a peculiar image which features characters from all the sets released during Year of the Mammoth. In this image, seen below, they're sleuthing about looking for something in the Warcraft zone of Duskwood. Are they there looking for clues that will lead them to their next friend (the new expansion)?
It may seem like a bit of a stretch, but Blizzard has been known to run teaser content in the past. What do you think?
References in the Image
All non-evergreen sets present in the Standard Rotation of Year of the Mammoth are showcased in the image.
- Raven - Year of the Raven (Leading everyone else!)
- Kobolds - Kobolds & Catacombs
- T-Rex - Journey to Un'Goro
- Unidentified Human - Possibly Karazhan
- Yeti - It's a stretch, but Knights of the Frozen Throne.
- Right-side Tree w/ Eye and Tentacles - Whispers of the Old Gods
- Jade at bottom of right-side Tree - Mean Streets of Gadgetzan, Jade Lotus
- Potion on left-side Tree - Mean Streets of Gadgetzan, The Kabal
- Spiked Baseball Bat at left-side Tree - Mean Streets of Gadgetzan, Grimy Goons
- Far Background Tower - Karazhan itself!
The Year of the Raven Teaser
In Blizzard's Year of the Raven announcement, all three of this year's sets were teased just like what happened during Year of the Mammoth.
The dark tree branches and overall palette for expansion 1 certainly give this old World of Warcraft player a huge Duskwood vibe. The interior "portal" certainly could be referring to the Dream Portal that exists within the Twilight Grove area of Duskwood which allows for travel into the Emerald Dream via the Emerald Dreamway.
Tell me More About Duskwood?
Sure! The Wowpedia article for Duskwood is great though so you should check that out; We're just going to go over some interesting quick bits of info!
- Duskwood is located in the Eastern Kingdoms.
- Surrounding Duskwood is Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Stranglethorn Vale, and Deadwind Pass (Karazhan!)
- It's always dark in Duskwood - it's cursed!
- Creatures that inhabit the land include Humans, Worgen, Undead, Ogres, Spiders, Wolves, Ghosts, and Abominations.
- One of the sub-zones of Duskwood is Raven Hill - Caw Caw!
Here are some screenshots of Duskwood in the World of Warcraft. It's a level 20 zone so if you're interested, start a WoW Trial Account and make an Alliance character. I recommend the Bleeding Hollow PVP realm, you won't be killed, I swear.
Stitches wants to play! I want to play Stitches!
Raven, darkness, dead forest, mystery:
that is Deadwind Pass, the area surrounding Karazhan.
Duskwood is not far tho.
It could even be a mix of elements from the two areas.
Right tree with tit ???
Oooh its a potion on that tree....damit i thought at first it would be a feary Dragon with a hat! Man that would have been so cute....
I'm so excited!
It does look like Duskwood is going to be in this expac in some way but I don't know about it being the main theme.
Duskwood was already featured a lot in Old Gods (Steward of Darkshire, Darkshire Alchemist, Darkshire Councilman, Darkshire Librarian).
I'm still betting it's going to be an Emerald Dream/Nightmare theme.
Duskwood is one of my favorite zones in WOW. Such fond memories leveling there back in 2004 when WOW was first released...
I was actually in the middle of an expansion based around the Hinterlands, with links to the Emerald Dream. Nice to see a similar idea possibly becoming reality.
Cenarion Circle is the next exp not Duskwood. Look at the new reddit leak.

I'm not yet convinced based on this. If you take a look at the domain update date, you can see that it's pretty much the same than the registration date, so most likely the reason for updating has been to prevent it from expiring. Also, if I recall correctly, when the domain hints have been accurate the update dates have been much closer to the announcement date than this (3 months old).
Another thing is that, thematically, I feel like a thing so strongly connected to Druids would make it quite hard to come up with flavorful cards for all classes (that might be just my lack of imagination though).
Naturally, all I've said does not mean than Cenarion Circle couldn't be the next expansion, I personally just find the current evidence lacking. But I do love the speculation!
The location of Duskwood was really nice for me, I mean it was really climatic, also I had level 35 and wanted to go to Karazhan (I succeeded). But I played WoW because of one reason: I could travel through Azeroth, I was just wandering around, sightseeing some places I wanted. I hope we'll get Duskwood expansion, and Darkmoon Faire one as well.
Dark moon Fair has the potential to be a great expansion.
O, sweety
While I doubt there is any connection, if Duskwood is indeed apart of the expansion, could Duskbreaker be a hint? Did any MOSG cards hint to Un’Goro?
No, all Gadgetzan cards were actually well themed and consistents with the expension thematic
I think the unidentified human is a new Reno Jackson. Just look at that body hair.
I think he is Marin the fox. Because he came after koft but before K&C
both marin and Jackson have beards/mustaches, and I don't see either of them as the kind that shave; i feel like that's morose.
