Patches the Pirate Loses Charge - Four Card Nerfs Coming in February
Four cards are being nerfed! These changes are not yet live and will be available in a February patch. They will all be disenchantable for their full value once to patch arrives. Please do not disenchant these cards until that patch - Blizzard won't help you out get the correct dust value.
- Bonemare now costs 8 mana, up from 7.
- Corridor Creeper now has 2 attack, down from 5.
- Patches the Pirate no longer has charge. His voice line will also be changing. (Source)
- Raza the Chained's effect now sets your Hero Power to 1 mana, up from 0.
We've got dedicated threads available to discuss each card nerf.

Quote from BlizzardIn the upcoming 10.2 update, we will be making balance changes to the following cards:
Bonemare - Now costs 8 mana. (Up from 7)
Bonemare has been quite strong in both constructed and Arena. It has a big, immediate impact on the board, and since it’s neutral, it’s been finding its way into a wide variety of decks.
Increasing its mana cost by 1 will give opponents more time to utilize powerful late-game cards to counteract Bonemare’s effect on the board.
Corridor Creeper - Now has 2 Attack. (Down from 5)
Due to the way that Corridor Creeper’s mana cost reduction works, it can cause big swings based on whether or not it happens to be in-hand at the start of the game.
Since it’s a very strong neutral card, Corridor Creeper has been played by a lot of classes. By lowering its attack, we reduce the overall swing potential and power level of the card, but still allow players who draw it early to benefit from having a low-cost minion to play when the game state is ideal.
Patches the Pirate - No longer has Charge.
As we move closer to the new Hearthstone Year, we had some concerns about allowing Patches to remain in his current state after moving out of Standard. Patches’ strength has caused almost every class to add some Pirates just to benefit from him, and his early game power forces control decks to include a good answer to him. This change should give Wild players more flexibility when building their decks.
Removing Charge will lower his power level, ensuring he shows up in fewer decks and allowing opposing players some additional time to respond to Patches, making him less “in charge” of the early game.
Raza the Chained - Now reads: Battlecry: If your deck has no duplicates, your Hero Power costs (1) this game.
In a similar vein to Patches the Pirate, we had some concerns about allowing Raza to remain in his current state forever. Raza is currently an important combo piece along with Shadowreaper Anduin, and can lead to games that rely heavily on drawing him by turn 5. Adjusting his Battlecry will lower his overall power level when combined with Shadowreaper Anduin in Standard, and keep his power level reasonable in Wild as we prepare for the new Hearthstone Year.
Once these card changes are live with Update 10.2 next month, players will be able to disenchant the changed cards for their full Arcane Dust value for two weeks. Thanks for reading, and we’ll see you in the tavern!
I mean, might just be me, I barely lose to cubelock eighter so might just be me being good.... :P
And no I'm not cutting the giants, they do so much for the deck than just enable wins against raza
I think Patches with "Battlecry: Gain Charge" would be better. The card, if you draw it now is complete garbage. It's a more expensive Snowflipper now.
Good news! Thank you Blizzard for this nerfs. I hope they nerf scalebane too. They all aggro cards and aggro decks cancering this game. I hope they all will be nerf in the future.
If your goal of nerfing all aggro decks is to only make certain classes viable since hunter, shaman, rogue, and paladin can't out control much stronger classes like priest and warlock than I have for you is SMH.
At the Brode household:
LITTLE BILLY BRODE: Daddy, what are you doing with that (RAZA THE CHAINED)?
BEN: Nothing, son. *hides gun* Don’t worry.
Thank god. I can now play my elemental quest mage in peace.
Everyone saying that Corridor Creeper should have been nerfed to friendly minions only seem to be missing a big portion of the card... It clearly wasn't intended to be only in token decks, otherwise that would have been the text from the get-go. Especially this card is the one beacon of hope for evolve shaman, and that tag would make creeper useless their since that deck doesn't necessarily kill 7 of its own minions by the evolve turn. It would not make any sense if they made a nerf that didn't just weaken a card, but gave it an entirely new role/purpose.
Well, now it's not going to be in any deck.
I'm not saying CC did not deserve a nerf (it definitely did), but after the nerf to 2 attack is the card even playable in any real deck? Why would you want to stick a 2/5 in your deck even if you could reduce it to 0 mana?
That is what I dislike about nerfs. They are just 'pendulum nerfs' (ie very few cards are nerfed to balance a card, but instead are just nerfed to make sure it isn't used in any serious deck).
Feels like its really only viable in Evolve Shaman which will take a hit come next rotation. Or in a token deck perhaps.
Poor evolve Xaman, two cards with high value and a bad status. Now, I can remove Corridor Boy from 80% of my decks. Bonemare will be recruit from Silver Vanguard, but still a good card, only change the Bonemare turn to 8.
Raza and Patcher.... Don't have and don't care, 2 months I will no more see them.
Everyone salute the Warlock 100% meta, put 4 silence in all decks.
900 free dust. Bonemare, just take 3 or 4 packs. Corridor creeper will be a tech card and weak.
Lol drawing patches has even more punish now xddd
who is gonna stop cancer warlock now *ben brode laughs*
what is wrong with that?
And here we have the other shoe. No reason to pretend. The changes to Corridor Creeper are strong evidence of the game maker's intent to print a broken card for the sole purpose of a mid-expansion shakeup. A 4/5 would be plausible, but having to drop 3 attack on a 5/5 for balance? It can no longer be explained by incompetence. To make matters worse, the now feel the need to change Bonemare? To be crystal clear, I agree these nerfs are needed - in fact they were planned the whole time to bleed you dry with a meta shakeup. Go ahead and buy more cards, plan on doing it every two months, because that's how long your build will be competitive. To add insult to injury, they pull the same stunt with wild, likely to keep people from jumping ship and playing there instead of on standard.
I mean doing something for the sole purpose of having an expansion shakeup is fine with me. They made cards, I had fun for a while, this change might actually shift the meta a bunch, their might be decks that lost to the aggro that see play now and can beat warlock, who knows. Plus I get back all my dust for the expensive cards here, 2 legendaries and an epic is a lot of dust. Yeah the legendaries were about to get rotated relatively, but 1600 dust is more than the 400 many would get because they disenchant all their wild cards. And this might make me somewhat interested in getting back to wild as it makes reno priest less insane their as well as in standard. Not sure what everyone;s anger is.
Why not make the charge of Patches a battlecry? So that whenever Patches is drawn, it won't be complete garbage.
Just run Stonetusk Boar if you want a 1/1 charge for 1
