Update 12:40 PM EDT: Ben Brode confirms 0 wins gives you 1 pack as a reward.
Competitive Tavern Brawls with Entry Fees Coming Soon!
A new Tavern Brawl type is coming soon titled Heroic Brawl which works a bit like arena except we're using constructed decks! You will need to pay an entry fee in order to play but you can earn some pretty awesome rewards.
- The entry fee is $9.99 USD or 1000 Gold.
- You will build a Standard deck using your own card collection. No changes once it is locked in!
- Your deck can be played up until you hit 12 wins or 3 losses. You will earn rewards based on your total wins.
- Rewards featured up to 50 packs for a run, multiple legendaries, and the usual gold + dust.
- The Heroic Brawl only lasts for the duration of a regular Tavern Brawl week!
- When this special mode is running, there will not be a regular Tavern Brawl.
- You can only run Heroic Brawl five times during the week.
Rewards
Clarifications
Quote from BlizzardThis brawl is pretty different. We want it to feel more like a tournament, and so the rewards are weighted heavily towards the high end of wins. The reward for 0 wins is a single pack. If this scares you, you may want to wait for next week's Brawl and just enjoy the fun on Twitch. :) (Ben Brode)The pack rewards are from the most recent expansion - so it would be Whispers of the Old Gods. The Legendaries are random. (Zeriyah)
The current limit is five runs. (Zeriyah)
Announcement Post
Quote from BlizzardReady for the ultimate competitive Tavern Brawl experience that will test Hearthstone’s best in an all-out battle for glory? If you think you’re up to the challenge, get your deck ready and dive into the fray, because Heroic Brawl is coming!
Heroic Brawl will challenge even Hearthstone’s most experienced players as they vie for glory and in-game rewards! Participants will create a Standard deck from their existing card pool and lock it in before their first Heroic Brawl match. No changes can be made to your Heroic Brawl deck once you’ve locked it in, so be sure to do a bit of testing before you finalize your deck.
Once you’ve locked in your Standard deck for Heroic Brawl, you’ll be pitted against other Heroic Brawlers in heated battle. Just like the Arena, you want to shoot for 12 wins to get the best rewards—but if you get three losses, you’re out!
For Hearthstone’s best brawlers, 50 packs, a heap of Gold, piles of Arcane Dust, and three golden Legendaries sit at the end of the 12-win rainbow. The rewards are significantly different than what you have come to expect in the Arena, and the more games you win, the better they get. Are you ready to take on the best and brightest of competitive Hearthstone?
Heroic Brawl is not for the faint of heart, and is a unique experience meant for the extremely competitive and experienced Hearthstone player. To speak more on Heroic Brawl and the philosophy behind it are two of Hearthstone’s game designers for Tavern Brawls, Dan Emmons and Pat Nagle.
Are you cracking your knuckles in anticipation yet? Here’s how you can participate!
Heroic Brawl lasts for only one normal Tavern Brawl week and has an entry fee of $9.99 USD or 1000 gold. You can participate in Heroic Brawl for a limited amount of completed runs. As mentioned above, Heroic Brawl rewards scale depending on how many wins you get, so be sure to do your best each run!
If you’re not ready to t Tavern Brawl week.
We hope that our Heroic Brawl scratches the competitive itch of the players looking for a high risk, high reward experience. Heroic Brawl is coming soon, so keep an eye out for updates.
We’re always looking to try new things in Hearthstone, so let us know what you think of Heroic Brawl on the official Hearthstone forums!
In theory, this might be an interesting idea.
In practice, with one single deck dominating Standard by so much, it's beyond terrible. I'll pass on this one without a second thought.
Too much info missing, but I'm going to try it at least. I main arena and I barely play ladder, and if so I only play wild, so I wish they could add something similar to arena. The 12 win rewards in arena are a joke compared to the ones shown in Heroic Brawl... but hey it's a time limited mode so it makes sense I guess. At least a great gold sink finally.
High risk, high reward in a game with this much RNG? That should be fun.
Not paying $10 physical dollars to go 0-3. You earn enough on pack purchases Blizz. Quit farming, provide more original game content like a custom mode that allows you to play tavern brawl style games when one would like (ie. "Perfect Two" rules, "Mana Storm", combinations of previous modes [only 2 cards and mana ramps 1/3/5/7/9])
Tavern Brawls are literally the only reason I get on hearthstone anymore. No eloquent words can describe my displeasure for this choice... Fuck this.
It's just a week, thanks to God...
every week dude
Nice try, Ben Brode.
Don't get the hate on your coment, I supose it shows how much of the comunity are just whiny babys
I can say one thing... if we get this instead of some cheesy randimonium brawl for the repeat brawl I will be happy.
This mainly appeals to the players who are willing to either spend real money playing or grind out their gold religiously, but that's totally fine. Not everything they do has to appeal to free-to-play customers. Why not have a high stakes format for the players who want to try and win big rewards? This is a lot more exciting than grinding ladder just to get a few goldens and a card back every month.
My guess is that instead of doing all the programming work it would take to make this it's own separate thing in the client, they shoe-horned it into Tavern Brawl for the test run (sucks it negates the usual style of Tavern Brawl for a week, but from Blizzard's perspective this is much more cost/time efficient for their programmers). If this proves popular then it will obviously be its own thing and not cancel out normal Tavern Brawl as we've come to know it.
If this does become a regular game mode I would like to see Blizzard change the format for it periodically. Perhaps banning certain cards or limiting deck building to specific sets only to require players to have to build different decks than we would normally see on ladder.
Uh oh logic! Watch out the space creatures will eat your brain if you're not careful!
Who doesn't want to pay $10 to go 0-3 against perfectly curved Mid-Range Shaman for a single pack amirite?!? lulz...
Blizzard once again not giving us what we really want: an actual tournament mode with selection of more than one deck, and the $10 entry fee? Come on... This is isn't for the casual players, and is the true form of p2w. The way I see it is that unless the base reward for having a 0-3 run doesn't equal to at least half of what you've put in, then it won't be worth it for a casual player. This has a good chance to end up being matches between only 2-3 different decks.
Turn 1 Trogg, Turn 2 Golem or loose. Sadly it is way to much RNG right now in the first 3-4 Turns.
I fully support this my dude
1000 gold? It's too much, and if get 0 wins we get just 1 pack. I'm not into something like that. I would pay max 700 gold like for a wing of adventure.
$10 for an entry? Guaranteed this is going to have nothing but cancer decks since the rewards for 0 wins is 1 pack... for $10 dollars... "Wow!" How about this takes a short walk of a long pier instead? GTFO with this.
Obviously it's going to have "cancer decks" why would you play a competitive game mode with a bottom tier deck?
I love the idea, I hate that it causes regular tavern brawl not to run. Why would you make a completely different mode push out normal tavern brawls? Seems stupid.
That being said, I'm eager to try it out. I hope there are special rules each brawl like normal tavern brawl.
The special rules are:
You are only allowed to use cards from Standard.
You have to pay 10 dollars/1000 gold.
Those are some crazy rules.
