Building Bases Finalist Voting
This week's competition theme was "Building Bases" and had one rule.
- Warcraft has in its history often been about building bases, from Warcraft I, II, and III to the recent garrisons in World of Warcraft. Now, the Heroes of Warcraft have gone long enough without bases of their own. Design a card that represents a building in the Warcraft universe. This is a theme-centered competition, which we realize is very different from our typical mechanic-centered restrictions. There are so many different ways to go about this concept that we decided it might be interesting to leave it mechanically open. Will you make your structure a high-Health minion that can't attack? A spell with a permanent symmetrical effect? Or something else?
Over 120 entries have been whittled down to 16 of the community's favourites and now we need the community's help yet again to determine who will win. You can find all of this week's entries and the poll over on our Finalist Voting Thread.
This Week's Finalists
You can find all of this week's finalists below - but make sure you check them out again in the finalist topic as some entries have additional cards associated with them that we have not listed here.
how do they get picked?
Really hope Baraxxus wins
the forge soul is amazing
moonwell as well. I also like the tomb of relics.
is this like every year ? the winner card wont be alive in game ? or its something different now ?
Observatory Tower I think has some good chances, I love this type of stuff. Hope it will win!
This is clearly one of the most interesting themes ever for the card design competition! Great work, great submissions!
Just curious, why no token cards? Like Baraxxus, or "Undead Relic". What do they generate?
They do create tokens and you can see them in the voting thread.
EDIT: I just noticed that one of the links to the poll actually takes you to last week's competition, that needs to be fixed. In case you don't find the real link, I'll post it here too.

I'm not including tokens in the news post for the sake of cleanliness. If people are truly interested, they should go over to the topic and vote too :D
Right didn't realize this wasn't the vote thread... I like checking finalists for the creative side but I have not found it easy to navigate to the proper threads. I found it confusing^^
Cheers for clearing it up a bit!
I lile the Forge of Souls card. This one would bring a brand new archetype to warlock and the discard mechanic was just not good enough (until this card)
Gate of the Setting Sun and Observatory Tower are just genius and add another level to the game.
Well done!
Totally agree those two cards need to be recognized by Blizzard in some way. DO WANT THEM! :)
I loved Silent Arbiter in M:TG, Gate of The Setting Sun is my favorite for now.
I like Gate of the Setting Sun, but it's probably too powerful. The best design and most interesting card, while being likely balanced, is in my eyes Observatory tower, I would vote for that
Did I miss something on Ancient Protector or is this card simply owerpowered? Unconditional 2/4 for 2 mana with the possibility of fandral buff? Same with Orc Burrow. How did these cards get in the final voting :O
Cards get into the final voting round as determined by their up-votes. They're here because the voting community wanted them to be. =)
And, frankly, balance is not the top priority for a lot of card design competition voters. A lot of voters are a lot more interesting in how creative or interesting an idea is. If something isn't balanced, you can pretty much always just adjust the numbers a bit to make it balanced. If something isn't creative or interesting, though, that's not so easily fixed.
You said rare 2/4 2 mana card is OP, while Blizzard just announced new Druid 2/2 1 mana common Beast card. FeelsBadMan
i want to know more about chessboard
