I love the cards. Simple, yet effective (well, some of them are effective). The art though, that's what I love ! So much color and they will look awesome as golden.
You know, it would be nice if cards like Bucket of Soldiers had unique art for the tokens, but you know these Dev's love to take a shortcut when they can.... Amazing work on just changing the color, just like the light bulbs (which colors didn't even make sense to their power, like, poisonous should have been green, etc....)
Call it lazy, call it good reuse of resources, call it poor time and/or project management. Whatever you call it, you can't know why they decided on recolor instead of unique art because you are just a consumer and not a part of the development team.
Myself, I would lean in towards good reuse of resources. Even if the game makes good profit, it doesn't always make sense to spend more time and money on a task that can be done easier and still retain quality and clarity
The bulbs colors are the same power colors than this soldiers... pay attention.
Caricature Artist is a great tutor.
Giftwrapped Whelp is an easy 5/5 card, I could see an aggro deck built around it.
The rest are meh.
Tar Slime is an excellent defensive minion, very cute, referring to his older brother Tar Creeper.
Scarab Keychain would be legally playable which unlike the other scarabs (Jeweled Scarab and Golden Scarab) which are very slow.
Giftwrapped Whelp officially declared him the cutest minion in the expansion (temporarily until all the cards are revealed) a 3/2 aggressive minion is good for the dragon or managerie archetypes.
Plucky Paintfin is ok.
Messmaker is a better Unstable Ghoul that only affects enemies but I honestly don't think it's playable.
Cosplay Contestant is too hot and Valeera's outfit makes her look sexier than her (personally) but even with that sensuality she won't be played with even if she is a superior version of Harbinger Celestia.
Bucket of Soldiers, I'm already tired of them continuing to release more cards with the text BONUS EFFECTS because they are always the same without much creativity since since the adventurers of the Forged in the Barrens expansion came out they have been the same, removing the effect of Spell Damage and changing it by Reborn. Unplayable although I would put it in a version of The Caverns Below and it still feels bad because there are better options.
Caricature Artist I love that the text is not limited only to a technical level, which the card does, also adding some juice and expression.
Workshop Janitor came out at the worst time when all the Murder at Castle Nathria locations are gone, and it is also very slow to play because drawing 2 cards is already done by any card in modern Hearthstone.
Based Cosplay Contestant review.
My understanding was that Bonus effects have been set to the same 8 consistent keywords as an evergreen effect, so that would be like complaining about not changing the effect of discover expansion to expansion. It shouldn't be creative in what keywords are involved.
I appreciate the consistency of it instead of having to memorize a new set of effects every time they want something similar, and it opens design space, so it's worth keeping, although maybe they'll add something like evasive to the pool, now that it is evergreen.
and reborn is better than spell damage. spell damage feels bad according to blizz and i agree with them
I honestly love this cards. I'm always interested in the Neutral Commons cause are the cards that I know I'm going to have all in the set.
And this ones look quite interesting. And I always enjoy the references to older cards.
Bucket of soldiers looks pretty sweet in Rainbow DK and Paladin
Does the mustache have a mechanical effect? Like counting as a disguise or something? Or just a joking side effect?
I am sure that it will have some mechanical significance. There is no way that they added alternate art of every five plus cost minion with a mustache.
No. It will just slap a mustache over it, like in Evil Twin treasure (confirmed by devs). Like this one:
That's OP with Grommash Hellscream and Kel'Thuzad
Good to know.
That giftwrapped whelp could be really nice.
The only ones that look ok are the 1 drops.
Maybe Caricature Artist too, if there is a "must draw" 5 or more drop in a low cost deck.
That poor Workshop Janitor having to clean up after Plucky Paintfin and Messmaker.
Can't believe they are powecreeping Harbringer Celestia
